Looks like the Gas are going to be looking for another new manager! frown

Having taken one of the favourites for relegation up to 4th in the league with a good chance of a play off place it seems Graham Coughlan has decided to ... er .... take a step up with Mansfield Town. It's very disappointing but understandable in a way, given the fact his family live in Sheffield and he obviously feels the need to look for more home stability. That's combined with a crippling lack of financial support from a board so willing to splash the cash for his predecessor and a complete lack of investment in upgrading probably the worst training facilities in the division.

So the search starts again - I'd go for Rovers legend Ian Holloway who's done a good job in the past and might be willing to take it on till the end of the season anyway. Nathan Jones did a superb job with Luton last year and though his time at Stoke was a bit disastrous he knows the lower leagues well.

But please, please, please, not Steve Cotterell  (who has failed with every other league club in the area) or Paul Tisdale who was considered, and rejected a few years back!

(Cue appointment of Cotterell or Tisdale!) yell

Happen I did JR, but not by accident wink ( did you spot that bit of Lanky Speak ?? )

As for 'Hung over' -  after that performance they would be lucky not to be hung up !! But nice to see the Alex had a touch of Good Will about them in allowing Cuthbert to score their goal just after he gave us the 'own goal'

Sad to see Macclesfield are still in trouble, and likely to get the 'suspended' four point deduction imposed as well as any other yet to be levied punishment.

Tragic that the fans and players should be carrying the can for the misdeeds of the Financial mob yell  and that the club may well yet be demoted before the season is much older.

And Best Wishes To All Sports Fans for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

May you all have Success in your " Local Derbys "  kiss

I think I was watching a team of imposters on Saturday.  Town scored from a corner not once but twice, we never score from corners.

By the 'eck but the tricky tree men are a physical lot. They could easily have been down to 9 men before halftime. One particularly nasty tackle not only took out our player but a big chunk of the electronic advertising system which all landed on top of a ball boy. Poor lad needed medical attention before he could stagger off down the tunnel. Speaking of which there was handbags in said tunnel at both halftime and full time.

Anyhow three points will do nicely.

Wishing all footie fans everywhere and especially those on this part of the forum a Merry Christmas and a Happy footballing New Year.

I didn't have much to say after our poor show at Middlesbrough but I'm buzzing after yesterday.

The two lads who missed sitters at Borough made up for it in spades. Our young centre back scored from another set piece ( that's 3 of the last 4 goals from set pieces) 😲 and our, up to now, out of form striker scored a worldy, smashing into the top corner from 25 yards.

Its getting very hard to watch us hanging on to a one goal lead especially when the officials keep finding all that stoppage time. Against Forest we played 10 minutes in all, 4 at the end of the first half and another 6 at the end. Yesterday we played 3 minutes and 9. The game didn't finish until 5 minutes past 5! My GS said he felt sick and couldn't watch the last minutes yesterday he was inspecting the stand roof for a long time bless him.

Its high time they brought in the stopping clock a la Rugby League. Our ground already has one since we share with Huddersfield Giants.

    Another three points always welcome.

Nice to see The Alex have some Christmas Spirit about them  smile

Four nil up against Carlisle well before half time  So now they are relaxing under grey winter skies and have allowed them there far  Northerners to save face with a goal.laughing

Even poor old Macclesfield have dragged themselves up from 1 -- 0 down to, at present,  2 -- 2 after having gone 1 -- 2 up but it is only Port Vale they are playing of course  wink

Just noticed Uddersfield AND Bristol Rovers are having a bad start to the New Year  BUT , Should Young Pauline be looking in, then Forest and Burton are both winning ( I'm not sure which side she follows now but 'Forest was always her first choice a couple of years ago smile )

Don’t know what other footy fans think, but VAR is doing my head in 😱.

When it was first introduced, I thought it was a really good idea. How wrong can you be!

I  was under the impression that V A R was intended to be, like the cricket version, to correct & cancel out obvious 'bloomers' but they appear to have been fitted with micrometers surprised.  All made worse by the fact that football as we know it is a fast free-flowing game and not intended to allow players to hang around getting cold muscles while the 'measurements' take place.

There has been a spate of comments saying that the rulers of the game said recently that such measurements should not take place. However I think there must be a threat offered that any such " His toe was offside" rulings will see the official responsible consigned to schools football at playtime .wink

Good luck with curing your headache  Pliers kiss

I've only experienced VAR live on two occasions with Town, both in the FA Cup, and it worked in our favour both times. One was against Man U at home when Mata had a goal ruled out for offside and the other was yesterday when the Saints suffered the same fate.

However I agree with you Pliers especially with marginal offside decisions. There seems to be far too much reliance on technology which apparently is not always as accurate as they think.

The other issue which needs resolving is the use of pitch side monitors. To deny the referee the use of them is totally ludicrous IMHO. It poses the question who is actually refereeing the matches because the ref on the grass doesn't seem to have much say in a VAR decisions. As for the promise that VAR would only be used to correct clear and obvious errors, that seems to have gone completely out of the window.

Still there is half a season to go & much to look forward to, so Onward & Upward we shall go !!

Hope you've all enjoyed the weekends matches especially the Merseyside Derby --  Quite a good game and oh those young Scousers can play a bit can't they  surprised

Pliers,  did you watch the T.V. Games this afternoon ??

The reason I ask is that a REF actually went to the pitch-side screen of his own volition, watched the incident where he had  given out two yellows then adjusted his decision & gave one of the 'combatants' a Straight Red !! Apparently it's the first time that has been done. So at least one ref knows he ain't quite a Footballing God  innocent.

They trialed VAR in the cup before introducing it to the greedy league the following year. I wonder if they're doing the same with pitch side monitors and we'll see them in use next season. I won't hold my breath PGMOL move slowly and in mysterious ways.

Another Yorkshire derby next Saturday and the GS and I are of to Oakwell to watch. Hope it's not as cold as Wigan and I'm sure the Tykes won't look after us as well as the Latics.

I saw the match highlights, and yes, the VARing seemed to be much better than some we’ve seen. It’s a new thing so hopefully will improve with practice!

League Cup semifinal 1st leg at The Swamp tomorrow night. The 2 clubs have agreed to reduce the allocation of tickets for away fans to 3,000. Tickets are now on open sale, so expect there will be “1 or 2” away fans in the home stands 😱.

Getting nervy already, hope we put on a better performance than last time we played our local rivals!

Been a grim few weeks for The Gas and their "bright new manager". Could be to do with my absence from the terraces so I'm off to The Mem this afternoon to see if he can inspire his "bright new signings" to do a bit better than they did against the worst team in the entire league on Wednesday night! frown

    Wish me luck! 👍

We enjoyed ourselves at the Riverside last Sunday. Ground was fairly full, so a great atmosphere. Tottenham players looked throughly miserable, body language said “I do not want to be here!”🤣 Jose was on form, stalking the box. Boro lads did ok, they just lacked the ball skills of TH, hardly surprising really. Bit disappointed we didn’t get to see Harry Kane, but it was a good game, and they deserved the trip to London for replay......where they can only ask for a merciful result!

Our local PL team are doing rather well, trying to persuade OH to go to Bramall Lane. I like my footie at the top end😲

Away to top of the table Swindon Town and went down 3 -- 1.

But Brian ain't upset, reports seem to say it was a good game all round. But I've not seen anybody who actually went  to the game so I'm relying on BBC's on line report -- which I'll have to get used to in a couple of weeks time when 'Red Button ' service becomes limited.

What a refreshing change. Yesterday I saw a match played in the right spirit with no cheating, no play acting, between two teams at opposite ends of the Championship. Brentford  are easy on the eye with, according to our manager, the best front three in the division, that they only registered one shot on goal, it hit the post phew!,says a lot for our defense. Town had a good chance to win, our top scorer blazing over from six yards.

Town introduced four new signings and what a difference they made.

I was frozen but thoroughly enjoyed it, we even had a decent ref for a change.
