I'm not against deposits either and £25 is just enough to make you think twice about making speculative bookings for every weekend and only take up the good weather ones. It does happen we know it happens despite what the club says.
The C&CC 30 day rule is IMO a bit harsh but it does stop their sites being booked up months in advance at weekends, so in that it works. I'm not keen on the minimum of 2 or 3 nights stay though as we often stay just 1 night when going to/from the ferry. Then again on the other hand not ALL their sites have this rule, only the honey pot sites and even those you can at short notice get on for less time than stated (we've done it) this makes touring in the uk possible even in high season.
The biggest difference for me between the 2 clubs is that C&MC gravel pitches are much bigger

Why so? The C&CC charge £25 but if your stay is going to cost less, then it’s the lesser amount you pay upfront.
C&CC have minimum booking periods for some sites at some times - particularly in peak season - but, as far as I can recall, that minimum period does not apply to grass pitches without EHU.
At this point, it’s pure speculation as to what CAMC might do.

I agree however it clogs up a pitch for 5 days where someone may only want to stay 2 or 3 (or less) therefore making less availability for others? Or does it work the other way and no one books because they do not have 5 days off over a bank holiday (except teachers of course), therefore allowing more chance of last minute bookings?
I wonder if you call on the day if they do enforce the 5 days though??

If deposits are on the way then it would also be an idea time for the Club to embark on a system of being able to book a pitch type, one of the better elements of the C&CC system.
If hard standings were bookable then. if I was unable to book ALL my stay on hard standing I would simply go elsewhere. There is absolutely no way that I would pay a deposit in advance for a grass pitch. I doubt that I am alone on that.

A few years ago we had a booking at A Morris Leisure site for a 10 day stay. Unfortunately we had to cancel. The deposit had been £10 a night and as I hadn't paid that much attention to the T&C's I assumed I would loose it. However, when I rang them and explained, they told me as long as I gave 48 hours notice ( which I had) the £100 would be held on file for a year, against a future booking at any of their sites. They sent me a credit note by email and we used the held deposit 8 months later at a different site.
It seems a very fair system, as deposits go. As far as I know it is a once only offer, and you can't keep rolling a deposit over. If inside of the 48 hours the full deposit was forfeit.

That sounds like a very good idea, I think the cmc should follow Morris leisure model it does seem a fair way of doing business.

I think you are agreeing with me, and I agree with you about grass pitches. I will use them but not if there is a risk of becoming stuck with no help available from site staff to help get me off. I find it difficult to work out why the Club have not already gone down the road of being able to book a hardstanding. After all we are already half way there because we can book a service pitch and we can book and awning pitch and we can book a non awning pitch so where is the difficulty just bringing into the booking process the type of pitch surface? I did wonder if there was any merit in turning the whole thing on its head and make grass pitches bookable, that way we would know that all other pitches were hardstandings. It would be easy to take the grass pitches out of action if the weather was bad.

I thought that it was because there are many who would not advance book if they knew that there were only grass pitches left to book.

Would not surprise me if deposits where brought in on 5 Dec, the must be something behind the notion book next year at this years prices.

Yep. If you have a trip you'll have to pay the cost in full at some point 😁. If you want you pay!
Makes no odds to me but it would be nice to have a definitive answer instead of political speak. Mind you that says it all to me - it is coming, when is the next hurdle. Then how much, then refunds.
Oh such fun
