Affiliated sites as noted in the past gain far more from being used by club members than what they may pay for "affiliation" one i know of left thinking they could so better but are now "back in the fold" and as for being used as "test beds" i think that is a bit of "pie in the sky" thinking,

A lot of CLs that know us don’t ask us for deposits. We are good customers. Plus nowadays we book most close to arrival date anyway.
For something like a CL, a robust deposit scheme for first time users has to be good. CL owner stands to lose a lot on only 5 pitches, especially as we know happens if someone cancels a two or three week stay at short notice. It’s about building trust. A big operation such as Club Sites can probably absorb a few of these over the year, and some sites will fill late cancellations anyway.

By a 'chain' do you mean like 'our' club which is a network of sites across the UK? A club which of course is equally fair to all members regardless of how many nights they employ their membership 'rights' across the whole network..Personally, I don't think it's the computer at all, it's about inclusive opportunities for all and rightly so too in my opinion!

We are very seldom asked to send a deposit to CLs, whether or not we've been before. Once out of 14 on our last trip, over half of which we'd booked well in advance, and none out of 4 for our next trip over the Christmas period.

I guess not! What a shame, we might have liked to try it. A bit like those folk who won't recommend a good CL in case it might get too popular!
To be honest, though, I can't think of a site which we'd visit regularly enough to be given any special treatment.

+1 for all of that, and especially your last sentence

Yeah, right. 😂😂😂😂😂
That's rather an unkind thing to say about your fellow members.☹️

of course DD, of course.
Personally I would not such a site that has a favourite few that gets all the perks, where 'gifts' (as you put it) are lavished on these favourite few I would rather use a site that treats all of it's customers fairly and equally.

In my opinion there would need to be a very precise description as to what priveledges were being suggested and that description would need to be totally transparent highlighting the attached limitations before such things akin to 'frequent fliers' or any other priveledges for that matter, be consider. What's more it would need to be a network wide initiative open to all members. Only then could the pros and cons be identified and discussed.

No, DD, you misunderstand - I wouldn't want or expect any of the "special" treatment frequent visitors receive, but I'm always interested in visiting new sites which folk recommend!
I see you've adopted PD's site recommendation style!

Indeed DD. 20 years ago, a few years after my wife's death and when youngest was in college I used to regularly take a Friday and Monday off work and drive 70 miles to a site near Garstang where I could fish and relax having recovered from 9 months of depression and heavy drinking. After being a regular visitor - probably 5 or 6 times over a 2 month period the owner offered to store my caravan in his compound free of charge. He would take it off and onto a pitch for me.
That meant I would leave straight from work at mid day to drive up and return to work directly from site and really maximised my time.
It was greatly appreciated. Sadly he died in April last year as I was booked onto the site and looking forwards to meeting him once more. I did speak with his son and told him how much I had appreciated his fathers kindness.
