Thats where owners have much more flexibilty ,than those who have in all scenarios much less chances to help the customers but try to satisfy their needs,  within the guidelines laid down by the employer,

We had much the same on a site in Dorset when first FIL was unwell and liked the area the owner kept his c/van on a pitch FOC so he did not have to tow from Yorkshire each month he used it

Yes, totally agree. That underpins my post about the need for universal transparency across 'our' network of sites. smile

Of course a family running their own business can do as they want to, apart from safety and legal issues. And we are the grateful recipients of some nice discounts and bending of family rules on some places we stay with cottages and pitches. That’s down to turning up in all weathers, behaving as expected during our visit, and if in a cottage, leaving it as we find it, clean and undamaged. Businesses want us back, we are good trustworthy customers. We might pay a small deposit to secure cottage dates, that’s good business, but if weather turns foul, we have been allowed to swop Winter dates. (Talking thick snow her!)

You can’t compare it with a big operation like CC. But that’s not what we are discussing, this is about the possible introduction of deposits for Club bookings.

Wont make any difference to us, we book Club Sites very late, if there’s no pitches, we don’t go, or go somewhere else. Reserving a specific pitch is something different, and will bring its own issues, especially on sites that are popular.

" Reserving a specific pitch is something different, and will bring its own issues, especially on sites that are popular. "

Yes, I think such a suggestion would bring quite a number of problems on all sites regardless of popularity and would be objected to by many members both new and old. I do see mind that with freedom to choose number of night stay on sites which are practically full all the time this would possibly be a nightmare and would probably call for a total reorganisation of those practices we, as members, currently enjoy. Keep as is for me, it works and is fair for all.

As with all things, there will never be a scenario that will satisfy all, and as the geography of all sites is never the same as others ,there must be some flexibility allowed to all site staff for each site, and it seems as usual to work for the many as anywhere smile

It is only a supposition with some, that it is as you as others would like to think but most "rules" as is well known and in all walks of life are open to interpretationwink

But then these days "snowflake " society are easely "shocked"cool

Agree and that flexibility needs to be transparent. For one example, the opportunity being offered (to all) the chance to change from an awning to non awning on arrival, or visa versa. On some sites or at some times this works on others it can't. There are other examples but I'm really talking about fairness and the fundamental aspects of membership and the touring club.

We have been in your example but when explained, we could see that the periods would have clashed although the awning pitches we wanted were empty for most of our stay,(Seacroft) and there were serviced pitches empty all the time we were there, but we are not as yet that unable to get some waterwink

I fail to see how a Warden denying customers good pitches so that he can subsequently allocate them to his personal friends on arrival is anything but selfish and that practice is in no way for the "good of the company". In fact it goes against the principle of equality in the choice of pitch on a first come basis.  Wardens guilty of this practice are giving their employer a bad name and have no place in any camping organisation.

We would not object to paying a deposit, if like the private sites that we use every year the C&MHC but in place the same booking terms, like David said you can book a certain pitch off the site plan. We already have three one week stays on private sites were we have got the pitch number that we like, and that's for next summer. With todays advanced internet we could still book online and if a certain pitch number was already booked for that date then it would show on the screen, and you could try another.  Then it would stop a lot of speeding around the site when people arrive and they are looking for the best pitch, because they would already have a pitch kept for them.  If the club change the booking system and I repeat  ''IF'' then it must work for all party's.

I am not overly concerned and, as you don't use CC sites, I don't know why you should be.

I have no idea why you choose to use the label 'warder' K

I certainly have no desire to be able to book a specific pitch

You wouldn't like a commercial site I regularly use then! I can even use it in the closed season as long as I use my own facilities. I have the same hard standing pitch with EHU on every visit and I don't pay list prices. I don't even have to phone in advance but I always do out of courtesy. No I am not going to name the site, I have a reputation and an owner to protect. laughing

While I am in favour of deposits, I don't need or want to be able to book hardstandings or reserve a specific pitch. Generally in bad weather grass pitches are closed anyway.

And you would have evidence of this practice,? which as said before is pure speculation on the part of others that post seeing it being done?wink

I do hope that this discussion turn's out to have been a waist of time, because I think that the present method of booking works very well for us,  and we have never received an e'mail about cancelling after 72 hours of arrival. If it is going to happen maybe the CC will do the same as the government and give us all a vote on deposit or no deposit and leave it as it is now,  one never know's because one day pig's may fly over the moonwink. If we were given a vote then we would vote to pay a deposit and book a pitch on a part of the site were people did not walk 4ft from our awning to take a short cut.frown

Very true. When I reported your OP to Rowena, WTG, I asked for clarification of the situation.

We're still waiting for that and I think the silence tells its own story.
