Are you lost for words JVB? Those of us that rise early will have noticed it is not possible to log on first thing! Something is being adjusted, perhaps only bug fixing, someone knows. Will they won't they?

Well I guess they have an underlying agenda, introducing rolling booking system so all of 2019 is now booked up instead of happening on "frenzy day", and now deposits that really only come into play for next December onward and short notice bookings for the rest of next year, but lets hope the premium for most members will be the ability to book a HS pitch to off set.  If not we may vote with our feet and cancel like we did with the other club.

I was hoping for a pretty definitive response to the question posed in my OP. But we had an evasive reply from Rowena and that has fuelled more speculation.

    WTG

I was also a bit surprised at Rowena's answer because she genuinely does try and get answers to questions asked on this forum and that has always been the case. Perhaps it is a question which is under discussion with no decision having yet been made so it was not possible to provide a definitive answer one way or the other? Perhaps your original post is being watched with interest in a sort of testing of the water way? On that score I have found the discussion quite interesting as there does not seem to have been an overwhelming opposition to the idea of paying a deposit. Many of the posts seem to be concentrating on how it might be implemented and to some extent how the booking procedure would be enhanced at the same time. As they say only time will tell!!

I was surprised at Ro's reply as well, David, for the same reasons. It certainly isn’t the 'clarification' I requested. I think the vagueness speaks  for itself.

Assuming the plan is to implement deposits, I trust the club are seriously looking at their security of business information. HQ would seem to leak like a sieve as we continually hear of forthcoming plans prior to announcement and it cannot be good for either the club, or staff morale.

Probably because like the brand change we would not be asked to vote on it and it would just be forced upon us with no choice.  Remember on here there are only a dozen or so posters whereas there are 350,000 members who may be for or against the change I personally am against it as I do not see it giving any benefit or having any effect on pitch availability but I also do not perceive there to be a problem with block bookers or people not turning up because it is raining (snow, ice, gales yes) and I only see it adding costs to the system and put prices up as all the admin that will go with it and transferring a deposit should someone genuinely have to cancel or move dates on a provisional booking before say their annual leave was confirmed.

Agreed, if it should come will we still be able to ammend/move/change our bookings as we do now? If so I would not be against deposits nor would I be against booking a type of pitch but I would be against booking a specific pitch, oh and minimum nights too. However, the whole process I think is possibly thwart with issues, challenges and possibly even more abuse and unfairness and another nail in the coffin of membership

One of the reasons that CC sites are first choice for me is lack of deposits and faff. I doubt that I am alone

Agreed. It’s the simplicity that wins for me.

I also agree with the points made by MT and Micky.

Restrictions such as a minimum bookable stay are anathema to the very nature of touring.

For me I find that I can often save £5 a night with C&CC due to our age discounts. Where the two clubs are close I still choose CC. If they introduce deposits that might well change. I personally see C&CC as the main competitor

At the moment we don't belong to the C&CC. However, if as we intend we switch to a MH we will most certainly join, as being able to guarantee hardstanding at certain times of the year would be more important. Therefore if surface type booking is introduced along with deposits, the main deciding factor would be location. Minimum booking would not be such a concern, as we still intend to stop for at least 3 nights.

On CC sites that offer hardstands and grass I have never had to use grass once in the last 10 years but I can appreciate your concern Steve. I have come close twice though when arriving on a Saturday laughing

A lady posted on the CCC site that she sadly lost her mother 3 weeks befor a site booking, and had to cancell. they would not refund her desposit.  I know commercial site may not refund but after all we are in the club, does that mean anything.

    No magazine ................. No problem.

However I believe that it also means no map and site directory which I want when planning a tour using a mix of CC, C&CC and commercial sites

The club has previously stated that the magazine is self financing - through advertising....

Therefore presumably the CC is 33% dearer ( from mid December) than the CCC membership fee because they need to recoup the lost revenue from late, no penalty, cancellations......

What other explanation could there be........wink

Most i think know and understand that (it is to protect members in case of insolvency) but then as with what seems a trait with non members, anything that they post hoping to cause (with little chance)of "upsetting" the membership (it will be good when the read only for non members is implemented)

Many CLs and Affiliated sites, which I believe may be used as test beds for potential Club changes, charge non refundable deposits. They also have minimum nights bookings for Bank Holidays and weekends. There is also a growing tendency amongst ASs to charge for a pitch and include two occupants. Another difference is 10amp EHUs.

Some of the AS sites are Adult only sites which used to against the ethos of the Club.

Given that there are such as differences in charges and T&Cs between the AS/CLs, which are independent commercial entities, I am at a loss to understand how the Club claim to have far more sites and pitch nights than the true figures.

It seems to me that the Club is merely marketing, for a fee, the independent commercial sites in a similar fashion to "Tranquil" and similar sites. It follows that the commercial sites who pays marketing fees/charges to the Club and other marketing outfits will seek to cover marketing charges by increasing pitch fees.

"They also have minimum nights bookings for Bank Holidays and weekends."

That's very rare in my experience, GDD.

I don’t see a problem with AS/CLs doing their own thing with regard to T&Cs as it’s entirely up to us whether we use them or not.

I can’t follow your logic regarding the number of site nights/pitches on offer. They are there, they are a fact and are a club offering but not owned/operated by the club.
