What are you all up to

Tewkesbury improvements haven't been looked on favourably in a lot of the reviews, I presume it will grow into itself again with some new planting etc. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Some rain here last evening. We haven't cut our lawns for a month, as they are a mixture, some old orchard and meadow grass, some finer stuff etc we've got a strange looking lot of grass to look at. At the back we have a long lawn where the local cows used to line up for the dairy and that is the greenest most fertile bit but it still hasn't grown much at all.

B2, There were baby hedgehogs at Barleywood but no sign of mummy. David and Lorna managed to catch 2 of them and take them to a local sanctuary. Once they get up to the right weight to survive the winter they will be returned to Barleywood, which is kind of nice.
Whilst on the wildlife front there are loads of Bishy Barnaby's (Norfolk for ladybirds) around here so wonder if we are in for the swarms we had in 1976?

We might have had some wet stuff overnight as the grass and foliage are wet but the paths are dry and it hasn't made much if any different to the water butts
We had a lovely day yesterday as we met up with some very dear friends for lunch in Stamford to celebrate some 'significant' birthdays (not mine
) and then drove up to The Orangery at Burghley House to have a cup of tea before they headed back north and we drove south. It was a lovely day with lots of chat and reminiscences. The time flew by.
Best wishes to all those with poorly relatives.

We would change if we could just change our TV but you have the have the 'bundle' of TV and Broadband and I don't want to change our broadband as like you OP it is the best in the area.

The hedgehog sanctury's do sterling work. I'm sure Barleywood will be glad to get them back. Feeding them this time of the year is easy, little cost either! Good dried kitten, not fish, food, some wet dog/cat food and I add suet pellets with added insects yum. Mealworms in quantity are not good for them, who knows if the birds eat all those scattered?
Lack of ladybird this way so far. Friend of ours tried to take ours for his garden 😲😲
Courtesy car is the Nissan Leaf. Just popped to the shop, neither of us would choose one but it's ok. Big blindspots where roof pillars come to join bonnet. Large boot. Odd auto position for drives 'gear stick thing's 😮.
Sounds like a lovely day yesterday milliehull Burghley is on our to do list. We called in at Stamford on the way to visit our son at uni - promised ourselves a proper visit, he graduated 9 years ago 😂😂. Should have some us time late September!

With the very dry weather we are having the ground work that has been done has not "taken" and it looks a bit "barren" in places, and according to the wardens the shrubs and replacement tree planting has had to be put on hold until the ground improves

Did he have a horse and cart

I haven't seen or heard a rag and bone and scrap iron man for decades!!

We get them quite regularly around here. Sometimes with a recorded loud hauler message, more often with a bell. We refer to them as the dingy dingy men - yes generally male 😉. Always seem to have a good load on board - hope they dispose of correctly 😮. We have a scrap metal dealer about 5 miles away so hopefully it is. I wonder how they get on with the new regulations?? It's quite usual to see bits at the end of drives for them to take. Usually open back vans or some quite large enclosed ones. Never seen one with a horse and cart 😢
Good steady rain. Notice I'm checking on here again but making progress with the cleaning, bathroom and one bedroom done thoroughly! But it's cuppa time 😉

Well it's stopped raining here, but still grey and cloudy! We've have about 12 hours of steady rain, you could watch the grass greening and the trees and shrubs are looking much refreshed. I've had enough now can we resume summer please?
Well done wherenext satisfying once it's sorted. You wouldn't be doing it this side of the country - rock hard.
We've now got another courtesy car, the one we test drove 😉. Not expected to get ours back until Wednesday and they need the Leaf for a test drive! Interesting!!, OH has told them once it's sorted to his satisfaction they'll discuss compensation. 😲😲
Tammygirl was today collection day?

We had about 45 minutes of torrential rain mid morning and then a steady downpour until late afternoon. The garden looks much better and fresher. We are off on Sunday for a week at Houghton Mill and it is due to rain all day - typical! We went on our monthly U3A church and tea outing this afternoon in a lovey little village called Southwick. It started late as most of us got lost!! It is very rural round there😄 but also very beautiful. It was such a lovely little church and the church warden gave us a very good, informative and humurous historical account of the village, local people and church. The tea was good too.😊
I hope you get your car sorted soon bakers2. I think some recompense is due as you have certainly been inconvenienced. How is your Mum now?
Tammygirl, have you picked up your new caravan yet?

Bakers, collection day of caravan is 21st of this month. The car we collected on the 2nd so just getting to grips with all the bells and whistles. I've had a drive of it round the village not ventured into town with it yet. Its a very different ride to the MH and my wee car. Not had a decent car for 6 years so it feels a bit bouncy
MH quite a firm ride and my wee car is positively solid, great for taking into town and to do the shopping in as the boot is quite small so the shopping bags don't get thrown around.
Busy day today (when isn't) OH went to his men's shed this morning so I decided to give the house a good tidy and clean. Bed changed, mattress turned and hoovered, all rooms then hoovered and dusted. Carpets and floor's then steam cleaned, bathroom had a good clean all the tiles washed down then polished up. Lunch then pottering in the garden, gave the bikes a clean down, last job was to go through the stuff in the spare bedroom and sort out what needs to go in the van and what can go up in the attic until we need it.
I will be glad to get the caravan then we can go away and I can stop working
Now just chilling after our evening meal while the tv is on in the back ground.

Gosh I am exhausted just reading about your day tammygirl (also feeling guilty😕)

Had an early start, after a coolish night, busy sorting out those little jobs that always get pushed to the back of the Queue hoping to get a lazy day Test Match Special listening after a wasted rained off day yesterday. And ,, ,, ,, And, its a ghastly rain interrupted day forecast for Lords so I reckon I might, just might, catch a few spare Zeds following an early lunch.
Hope your rain only falls when & where you want it -- and now it's started raining in Crewe and, more importantly, on my neighbour's freshly gloss painted windows. No Happy Bunnies round here I can assure you.

Well its actually raining !!☔ It would be as OH decided we needed a trip to Wisbech, needs to take back some old parts he took off "Daffy" apparently there is a surcharge on the new parts which is refunded when the old bits are returned. We are hoping to make a weekend of it but the weather seems to have other ideas😢😢
Had a chat with youngest son yesterday they are house hunting and are going to see a lovely cottage, it will mean a bit if a commute into Manchester but is doable and he works from home 2 days a week now anyway.
I wish I had you energy Tammygirl ☺
Millie Have a great holiday at Houghton Mill.
Enjoy the weekend folks ☺

Tammygirl you certainly have some energy! Must be cooler where you are 😉.
Milliehull have great time at Houghton Mill, must give that a try ourselves.
HelenandTrevor are you taking your caravan? I'm sure you'll enjoy Wisbech. Peckover house definitely worth a visit, museum and the communal garden church - can't remember the name
. Weather won't affect those 😉. Good luck to your son house hunting.
Cooler now but bit humid, just had a shower, enough to make you grab the washing in type!
ABM hope you manage what you've got planned 😉. Shower starting again now, good job we did outside jobs before! I hope the weather will remember it's August and give us back the sun 😉

Early start this morning as we were grandtwins sitting so at daughters by 7.45hrs. Played games until 11am then went for a walk on the Marshes followed by the twins riding their bikes around the block. Met up with various cousins, nieces SIL etc at the beach 🏖 Started to rain after an hour so, got wet, went to the pub and had a couple of scoops 🍺 children keeping other customers amused. Just got in, dried off, house in total chaos but who cares I’m just going to open another can of Adnams.

Thanks 4 the thought B2, I got some little jobs done, got bloomin' soaked tho' so i've decided to give the lightweight w/proofs a treat & re-proof, but I'm now very confused of Crewe.
The better of the coats allows for full cycle @ 30* but should be tumble dried, yet the cleaning fluid, from the same source and bought at the same time, says air dry only. Should I clean it twice - once for each method ??
Think I'll get some more zzzzz's in while I decide

Taking it a bit easier today, gone through the stuff in the spare bedroom and skipped out another load of stuff we don't need to take with us in the caravan.
OH spent the morning in his shed painting his tripod stand thingy and sorting out various bits of electrical connectors he thinks he will need
having just gone through his box of bits in the spare bedroom I'm not convinced he will need them, why does anyone need 3 torches
1 has now been relegated to the fuse cupboard. Hose connectors, why we don't carry a hose with the caravan, honest some folk.
he had the cheek to complain about my 3 hairdryers
Oh well must get on, off to the skip after I spent an hour in the attic and found lots of empty boxes he was keeping 'just in case' you understand.

More substantial rain today in MK and fortunately a bit cooler. Last night was the first night in many that we closed the bedroom window completely. We wouldn't have done that if it was not for the ongoing work on installing fibre broadband network on our estate. The guys doing it are very hard workers but at the same time seem to be insomniacs as they arrive for work before 7.00 am in the morning!!! This always wakes us up and its almost impossible to get back to sleep. This morning we didn't hear a thing but still woke up!!! Fortunately the work is all but finished so no doubt apart from a bit of tidying up they will be moving onto the next estate on Monday?
Had yet another trip out to White Arches Motorhomes this morning to see what they have on offer. We would have liked to have gone for a van conversion but if using as two single beds they are just too narrow. Did look at a smaller Autotrail Imala today. Some climb to get into compared to our Bailey. We wanted to look at one of the new Baileys but they didn't have one in stock so we might have to put off our decision for a while, even if that decision is to stick with what we have.

One of my sons bought me a ride in a helicopter over the Derwent dams as a Christmas present. Of course you have to book them well in advance, so take pot luck on the weather. Given what we had it was not the best today, but it was none the less a very enjoyable flight with good visibility over the dams. Unfortunately the regulations mean we could not fly over them at 60 feet ☹️ as the Lancasters did during training for the dams raid. They could certainly do with a bit of rain to fill them up again. In the third photo if you expand the middle of it, you can see the ruins of the village they flooded when they filled Ladybower reservoir. The final photo is of Castleton. Mam Tor is in the murk, but the CAMC site can clearly be seen in the middle of the picture.

Still nice and sunny here but a bit breezy. We arrived on site not to long ago so quickly got the Cadac on and cooked chops for dinnner tonight even managed to eat outside. We are only away 2 nights and then back home just sitting outside now with a drink will be heading in the van shortly though as the sun will be going behind the trees. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Picked up the new bikes today, so both of us are very stressed! Intend to carry them in the caravan so tomorrow morning we'll load them up in a trial run. It will almost seem like we're going away
, except we then have to empty it as it's in for service on Monday.
Just finished dinner. Had some delicious small new Pembroke potatoes, boiled in mint water, with some oak smoked back bacon, thickly cut, and steamed asparagus with plenty of butter for the tatties and veg. Some things just hit the spot. Have to admit that I prefer Pembrokes to Jerseys. Maybe I'm becoming Welsh.

Milliehill enjoy your trip to Houghton Mill.
I remember when we were there during the night the car alarm went off, checked it no reason so reset it. Half an hour later a car goes round the site the alarm goes again, back out to see if there was something amiss. No so reset it again. Next day got into the car a drove to exit the site where a moth came up from the bottom of the windscreen. obviously disturbed by the lights of the cars the preceding night setting the alarm off!
