care to expand?
in the UK i use CC and CCC club sites, commercials, THS meets, CL, CS, pub stops etc..
in Europe I use ACSI sites, municipals, Aires, supermarkets
ive done this in four different MHs, two uk vans and two German ones.
if this is 'narrow knowledge of just one type' as mentioned in your previous post, please give me some advice as to the other 'types' you use.....

I will not go down the much said poor design of motor caravan waste outlets ,except to say there was a Frankia motor caravan on this site emptying point, and was not having a problem with the original type emptying point with the flexible pipe on their waste outlet , as the owners said "if all motor homes were fitted as this one, with this type of decent waste outlet the clubs and other sites would not need to spend so much money altering them"

Have you not noticed that over the past three or four weekends, DD? I'm all for welcoming new members to the forum, it would be very stale without them, but just lately a number of "newcomers" have managed to start threads on subjects which have caused bad feeling in the past (late departures, weekend block booking, dogs, overseas sites) and then just disappeared without trace. Which is why I hope debnian will come back to give us their reactions.

In most parts of Cheshire the surface water is separate from foul sewage. I suspect most counties and regions are the same.
When I wild camped however my 'grey' water had no fats or soaps in it and was disposed of in hedges or highway gullies.

yes, I mentioned I'd had four.....two uk and two European...is this not sufficient to give a certain amount of experience?
please keep up.....
, as the owners said "if all motor homes were fitted as this one, with this type of decent waste outlet the clubs and other sites would not need to spend so much money altering them"
did you manage to capture their oratory word for word?
well done.....
i have a waste pipe like DDs and there is also a small flexible pipe which can screw on as with the Frankia.....but this should not be necessary even with the simplest continental aire design...
a concrete square with gently sloping sides which gather the water to a low central drain...no need for any additional kit, just park with the drain pipe anywhere within the square, pull the waste handle....and job done.

There biggest disincentive to MH's or indeed caravans en route are the wretched height barriers. Often they are fitted to P&R facilities which is as good as saying "MH's not welcome in our town."
In an earlier trip this year we visited the Ipswich P& R, the nearest to our CL being about 800 yards. A ten mile drive was required round the ring road to get to one without a height restriction.

For years now I have been the proud owner of a couple of 2' 6" ish lengths of square guttering with which I can accurately aim my grey waste into the centre of the designated target area even the ones that used to be in the centre of the service area. { Mildenhall C&MC site comes to mind } No need for any thing more technical, any run-off will be from hosing the area down afterwards, with the water aimed towards the drain .

So you'll just ignore the fact that some have more knowledge on these things than yourself and keep maintaining that water put into a roadside drain goes into the sewage system, rather than an aquifer, or water course as PD pointed out.
Plus ET's post above.

As a retired highway engineer Steve I can confirm that it is rare in my experience for surface water from the highways to be treated. The exception is in old systems where there may be a combined sewer. It is unusual in Cheshire at least, to have any private surface water drains running into the highway drainage system. The run off from private properties is nearly always separate from highway sewers and from foul sewers, The domestic grey waste normally runs into the foul sewer.

Maybe I should just correct myself slightly. There are some old systems where, although the surface water from properties do not run into the highway drainage system the highway drainage, instead of connecting into an outfall directly, actually runs into water/sewerage companies' surface water drains and occasionally into combined surface water and foul drains. This is something that is generally avoided in newer construction and is more common in older parts of towns and villages where new runs to take the old system to outfall is impractical.

You might not buy it M. but what a wonderful perk to allow members to use the newly installed motorhome waste disposal points and showers. Those with camper vans very often have very limited on board facilities and has already been pointed out I have yet to come across a CL which has a motorhome disposal point. When I use a CL I turn up with sufficient water in my tanks for my stay and have no wish to make umpteen journeys to cart grey waste by the bucketful across a field. I didn't buy a motorhome to make life harder in my advancing years.
I doubt it would increase CL usage, there are other factors to consider but at least it would be one less problem for motorhome owners to be concerned about when considering using CLs.

....or, indeed, some dog owners....
using the same stick which has been used umpteen times to 'beat' wild campers, it could easily be said that, as the CC doesn't charge for dogs (many other commercial sites do), it is 'encouraging' the touring with many dogs, thus increasing the chances of having irresponsible owners on site and the possibility of some members' holiday being spoilt as a result....
of course, this is total rubbish, exactly as it's total rubbish to presume that allowing a waste dumping service on CC sites will 'encourage' the increase of wild camping.....
in either case, it's the uncaring idiots who make life difficult and spoil things for those who 'wild camp' or 'dog' responsibly....
..and doesn't a dog walk and plenty of dog bins make it easier for those resonsible dog owners to dispose of their waste easily and correctly?
...exactly what some campers require for their waste....
and these would need to be members and be charged additionally for doing it, which is not the case with dogs.
I really don't see the problem.

It is not just the one large organisation that does not charge for dogs on their sites ,and only one other organisation that I know in the UK that allows a "visit"to sites for a fee ( that some think is too high)to carry out the serviceing of vehicles and owners

Thankyou moulesy. Yes some comments have helped and some have given me a giggle. I hope people don't think my husband and I are the great unwashed, tight fisted, unsocial, antisocial, roadhog, litterbug, lowest of the low (caravanners being slightly higher in the pecking order), that some may have indicated. We only want to have a bit of fun and see some of our beautiful country before we pop our clogs. I take it that it's not acceptable to dump all our different wastes in the local river then?

Debnian, you’ll do just fine. You’ve got the most important thing - a sense of humour. 😀
