...but the club are in a (20 yr) roll out of MHSP redesign and improvements.....

location has to one of the consideration in an improvement program, doesn't it?

or are we to assume that 'improvement' is just adding a grate to wherever....Just like they did at Minehead, what a joke.....

I do too, I presume if it is a genuine question the replies will prompt a further response? One thing before buying a van is "do some research" I think? smile

I have always thought it would be a nice thing to do in support of CLs rather than wild camping. Last weekend I had to travel home with nearly 200 litres of grey waste because of the lack of an accessible greywaste point. I also guess if you were staying more than a few days on a CL and hadn't got a decent shower you might also want to avail yourself of a site "quick stop".

Sorry, PD, but I just don't buy that! We have BB and others telling us regularly that this won't encourage "wild" camping but you seem to be implying that it will encourage CL useage. But don't all CLS have CDPs, grey water dumps and fresh water supplies? Which just leaves the showers. Do you really think that those who don't currently use basic CL will rush to do so on the basis that they can pay £7 every few days for a nice shower? undecided

M, there are many others who MH but currently have nothing to do with CC or even CLs....

these may use Britstops, pubs, commercials or any other form of stop.

whether the CC introduced a 'dump stop' scheme or not would change the way these folk use their vans...

however, if word got round that a super new, inexpensive service was being offered, it might just be something that some might use....

a full directory of dump points (the many CC sites) would be akin to rhe Aires directory abroad.....which doesn't encourage wild camping, just mean that there are many more places for those that do to dump waste easily....and easily means responsibly.

of course, those that wild camp will continue to do so (nothing CC does will affect that) but might just help them, and a small profit to CC.

i can assure you that passing vans using a dump station on a (say) French campsite that allows this, would not affect the customers on that site in the slightest.....they probably wouldn't even know they were there.

i dont give a monkey's if the CC do or don't ever adopt this sort of service, however I don't believe it will cause any increase in 'wild camping'....these folk already do it, for their own reasons and CC won't change that.

Most CL's we have been on do not have a suitable grey water dump for a MH unless you want to decant it and throw into a bush or down a drain, for a MH you need a drive over affair to make life easier...

...and what did your extensive touring over there 'in most forms of LVs' tell you about Aires, service points on campsites and its effect on continental wild camping?

quite right Michael, perhaps CC has been giving advice to CL owners based on their immense success with MHSPs?wink

perhaps he's telling you he won't make that mistake again....wink

i think you're getting a bit too analytical...

were just taklking about a van pulling onto a site, parking over the MHSP, pulling a handle to let the water run out, stuffing a hose into the fresh filler while the toilet gets emptied....

ten mins, a fiver to CC and on their way....

CC have done their bit to aid responsible waste management, the customer has a full listing of places he can visit to do exactly this, the price is fair....job done...

no doubt there are 101 hurdles to cross before even something as simple as this could be managed, none of which seem to stop sites all over Europe doing it....

    but what's new?undecided

Blimey, BB, 15 paragraphs and two separate posts to reply to what I thought was a fairly simple point. You don't do brevity do you! wink

I wasn't disputing your claim that this wouldn't encourage "wild" camping by the way, just pointing out the slight inconsistency between what you and PD were saying.

Still, I notice that, where earlier you thought £7 was too expensive to dump toilet waste, now a fiver seems quite acceptable.

Maybe we should just agree to disagree instead of haggling over a couple of quid?

M, no.......not 'quite acceptable'......I said 'fair'....a significant difference in my book. perhaps TW can give you some lessons following his 'required' and 'needed' hair splitting....undecided Im sorry you cant grasp it but I'll try one more time....well, it is hot.....£7 is expensive, a fiver is 'fair' (but not a bargain.....)£7 is 40% more expensive than a fiver....winkthanks for the English lesson, I've tried to cut down on the number of paragraphs in this postwinkyou do like to 'monitor' don't you, where we go, how many words we write, how many paragraphs, all in your little book no doubt, to be whipped out in the middle of any thread and used against one......all a bit sad, really but there you go.....

why assume those who wild camp are bad people and that what they do is bad....

I made no such assumptions so why assume that I had? I was addressing the political aspect as I thought was clear

Oh dear, back to your  patronising worst! I expect any time now you'll be telling me I've got all upset, rather than having a different opinion to you (which I believe is allowed).

As you say, how sad -  it seems though that at some stage you seem to run out of steam for a genuine debate and have to switch to insulting anyone who disagrees with you. frown

All the OP wants is a shower. No mention of dumping water or any other liquid.

You will never stop the child like time wasters here. Likewise the bar room lawyers have their stay. There is no law against parking in Lay byes( Unless by order of a by law and notice posted). Likewise most landowners will allow overnight stay on their land just for asking. I fish a lot in wild places and have never been refused permission to stay overnight on land adjacent.

That is what gives motorhome owners a bad name DD. I have easy access to a disposal point on my driveway which insures grey water is taken off to the treatment works unlike many roadside drains with flow directly into rivers and streams.

Not around here DD. As we live on a very permeable layer of sandstone, several hundred metres thick, lots of surface water drains, are in fact soak aways. This won't apply everywhere, but will in a lot of areas. Someone dumping their grey waste into a surface drain will have no idea if it is connected to the sewer or not.

But if it is that easy to empty a motor caravan waste, why has there been such an issue about the problems of doing such on cc sites, that has had them spend an on going countless thousands of pounds modifying m/van waste pointsundecidedsurprised
