I had a discussion last week with the retailer who 'hard sold me the 6 kg lite' ! when I asked him for an update he said that he had plenty and could exchange for a while yet. Then I asked him about the exchange after he had ran out 'free exchange I understand' only if you have the original purchase receipt says he??
As it happens I did have it but left in in the caravan history file when I part exchanged it. Does he have to have the receipt or was I being conned?

Seems your dealer is right.A receipt is required.
See here https://www.calor.co.uk/calor-lite-propane-gas-bottle.html
Read the 2nd and last paragraphs under the heading Product Update.
Not sure how many people will have a proof of purchase. I haven't got one now.

A couple of days ago I took my Calor Lite empty to our local caravan dealer (good excuse to browse the new 'vans) expecting to have to settle for an ordinary 6kg but no, they had some Lites in so I was able to get one. Today, having decided to have a BBQ in the garden at the weekend (take note it is bound to rain) I checked our regular 6kg cylinder and found it nearly empty, so I went to our main Calor distribution centre (it's nearer than our caravan dealer) to get a 6kg exchange. Guess what. 'We only have the Lite cylinders I'm afraid, no regular 6kg ones'. They had oodles of them along with the larger sized regulars. I said that I thought they were not being reissued once they had been returned but it seems not. So it seems that Calor Lite is alive and well for the time being at least.

Typical, I will have to trace this via bank statements. I wouldn't care but this particular supplier are the worst to deal with. Tight as two coats of paint and pounds more expensive than anywhere else.

I’m still waiting BB! Again, the CMHC is not being completely transparent which saddens me. All I ask is for them to lay the facts out in clear sight for everyone to evaluate- what is wrong with that?? I think we all know what their motivation for not engaging with me is! Peace!

Have you submitted an article for the magazine publication with suitable photographs. Sometimes it pays to be proactive because if they refuse to publish they have to give some sort of explanation?

Happy and most relieved to report that today I walked into a local supplier, ( A Bell & Co Ltd, Thornton Rd Northampton NN2 6LT), and come out with a nice full 3kg Calorlite.
After reading here & elsewhere I was concerned because the now empty one came with the accessories thrown in with buying our caravan and I only had a receipt for the van with "plus accessories" written on, and no documentation for cylinders of any sort.
The gent in Bells' shop said Calor have been supplying them with Calorlites since March, and didn't even mention my showing him any paperwork, the empty cylinder was all he wanted, so I didn't raise the question. He hasn't got endless supplies, but reckoned they'd got a goodly number and will go on doing so.
Cost was £24.85. I don't know how this compares with others, but reckon it's worth it for the saving on kg when I thought I'd be dragging a steel one round instead.
Don't all rush at once

Was at a CMC site recently and spotted a good number of lite cylinders in their compound, asked if any full ones free as mines was starting to run on fumes.
Loads said the warden, Calor have started reissuing them as they are running out of the std ones!
So seems to be shop around

PS - with apologies, I meant to write "6kg" in my previous post. That price for 3 would have been silly.

Calor are given to charging silly prices for their gas.

Hi H, The problem isn't when you're exchanging "A" for "A" it's when Calor have released the new cylinders and you want to exchange "A" for "C" that the problems will appear if you don't have proof of purchase. You will have to take the receipt for the caravan with you!!.

Very true Steve but this is one occasion when people power could win. If when the bottle is revealed almost everyone refused to "upgrade" then they would be left with a stack of bottles. They might then be forced into a decision to allow those with Calorlite bottles and no paperwork to exchange. I'm definitely keeping hold of my two Calorlite for that reason.

Hi Swifty, somehow i can't see the reasoning behind this idea, although i agree with the sentiment i think we will get ripped off? but what do i use in the meantime when away and waiting for Calor to change there mind. I know i could use normal 6kg cylinders till then but how will that hinder Calor. Still, it's safer than a CCC member has decided to do if he his asked to pay a fresh deposit. Just hope I'm nowhere near when he sets them on "fire" then go and get some refillable ones?. Bet that will put a smile on Merves face

If my memory serves me correct we would have bought our first two calor gas cylinders in 1968 paying any required deposit. Changed to calorlite at a National Rally probably around 20+ years ago and do not recall being given any paperwork on either occasion.
I wonder how many Calor staff could produce a receipt or agreement for anything they bought 50 years ago or even 20 years ago? The whole idea of producing such documents would be farcical if it was not just plain stupid
I intend to keep my calorlite bottles and see what happens buti if sense does not prevail then I suppose I will just have to carry on using the 3.9kg bottles I am using at the moment.

Just found rental agreement when clearing dads paper work sa he has gone into a care home. He bought me a bottle back in 1987 to go with the one I'd bought. On the back the scale of refunds ends with " 25% between 7 and 12 years, so no reason to keep after 12 years. I haven't got my copy!
They were both for 4.5kg butane which were changed to 6kg propane and then changed to calor lite.

Certainly does Steve!🤣🤣 The bet is that Calor will hang on to renting cylinders out to the caravanning public. They just can’t let all that lovely rental money go can they? You all have so much power in your hands to change the way we buy gas. 5 years ago I rebelled and bought my first Safefill. One of the best decisions I have made- no, in fact , it was Calor who made my decision- and I haven’t paid £6 for the gas and £18 for the cylinder since. I just pay for my gas now!

Sometimes, I like to go back through old posts and as a result I find this post from you David. No, I haven’t is the short answer and I have to say that it’s an idea. However, after two promises to contact me and do something about this one tends to think that if they did an article- would it be accurate? So perhaps this is the way forward?

I went to my local Calor supplier a couple of weeks ago and asked if they still had Calorlite bottles, they did. So, I swapped my 6kg steel bottle for a Calorlite without any problems at all. I was expecting them to want an agreement, but said they were all in the same group so no problem. I don't use a great deal of gas, so this bottle and the other Lite bottle will last me a few years yet.
I think for those that use a lot of gas then perhaps a Safefill is ideal, but for those that use very little and don't use basic CLs the Calor system works.

Agreed Ian. For those who use very little gas and prefer to pay for an EHU for their power, no argument can be made for Safefill. However, I would say this and I have been consistent in this since the beginning of my Safefill days. Even had I been in your position, I would still have bought a Safefill purely because over the previous 20 years or so, Calor have had a nice little sum out of me. I have a dislike of being unable to have a choice. Calor has had it very good for so long running a monopoly- swap your cylinder and pay our price or don’t have gas! Now there is a choice and I prefer to exercise that choice and even if I was still an avid EHUer, I would still have satisfaction of not only supporting a small company that Calor and co have tried to kill off (for obvious reasons) but also not paying £18 for the privilege of using their cylinder to eject £6 worth of gas. AND- never having to go anywhere with anything other than a full cylinder- giving gas back to them would rub salt in the wound!! 🤣🤣

One of the major benefits is the ability to obtain gas whilst abroad which you can't do with Calor.

I know this is an old thread, however the rumours abound about calor lite. I happend to pass by a local gas supplier today who told me that it's just rumours rthat calor lite is being withdrawn. He has about 60 in stock..

I have 2 Calorlite bottles, if I keep those bottles and swap at Calor it will take approximately 12 years to get to the price of a Safefil bottle. That's working on the current price of a Safefill which is £149.99 and the present price of a Calorlite refill at £25.00. It usually takes me 2 years to get through 1 bottle. So for me the answer is easy, because i am assuming i won't be caravanning when I am 80 years old!
