I saw an TV programme about Alpaca visiting a residential home recently. Would it be the one your Mum is in? The residents loved them

Glad you are getting your holiday sorted out Helen. When are you going?

No not my Mum's Millie but a similar type of visit. My Mum's home is lovely they have all sorts of visitors, we try to join in too if visiting when something is on the programme. I keep missing the lady who brings a full size harp in, I've heard she's very good.

Mid July Millie, we normally go early July but Trevor and eldest son have tickets for the Grand Prix at Silverstone this year, all 3 days!

Had a really nice walk along the fields and back on the tow path, nice to see a Buzzard, Kestrel and then the local Parakeet on a feeder full of monkey nuts that had been put out by one of the narrow boats.
Dog now tired but happy
Time for a cup of tea .

Oh, so very sorry, please accept my grovelling apologies Goldie, my alter ego escaped while I was sealing up my wallet & credit / debit cards 'cos there's a terrible wind of ( no ) change blowing over my finances this month & February. This means I cannot afford the blacksmiths fees for checking the chains & locks on it's pillory.

Ah, Helen, glad to see you're venturing into foreign lands for your hols. If the weather is kind it will be bliss.
Millie - That programme was Countryfile with Adam helping out. Very enjoyable. FiL's home used to get dog visits which made him smile a lot.
Easy 3 hour drive to hotel in readiness for tomorrow.

Stop making excuses, it is all very easy to do.
When you get to the pizza place, zero your trip counter, when you are finished delivering, read the total miles you have driven and make a note.
You cannot claim for your commute.
At the end of the tax year, total up all your miles and multiply by 45 p if under 10000 miles.
Total up your drop money and deduct that from the first figure.
You take the year as a whole, not each individual delivery.
Whatever is left over you can claim tax relief on at your rate of 20%.
Once you have worked out that figure, compare it to how much tax you have paid over the tax year. If you have paid more tax than your figure, you can claim it back. If less tax then you can only get back what you have paid.
Easy!
Remember that tips are also taxable so should be entered as other income!

Very soon (I hope) we will be heading south to Preston Guild Hall to see The Transports (A Tale of Exile and Migration). Look it up HERE.
We're planning on parking at the Bus Station car park - but I'm a bit wary (though I know lightening doesn't strike twice) as the last time we were there (late 1990's) someone broke into my Mini by smashing a window and was trying to extricate the expensive CD player I had put in, when we got back to the car. He ran off before we could get to him.
But, enough of looking back - this is the start of a string of live gigs.

Dull grey and dark here today horrible, lights been on all the time we've been in.
Went to see Mum at her care home this morning, hearing aid missing again
can't find it anywhere, the staff have looked as well but no joy yet. This happens at least a couple of times a week but it usually turns up somewhere. The home has now had the 'cats' a few weeks now and things have settled down a bit. There are a couple of the residents that have really taken to them and take it in turns to sit with it on their knee stroking it and talking to it. The staff say they would like some more as they are working well, the residents seem to be more 'aware' and yet relaxed. Glad to hear it's been a success.
Pile of ironing done this afternoon, pot of soup on the stove and 4 containers of bolognase made and in the freezer. Tomorrow I will make Chilli and freeze it, I picked up 2 x 750g trays of mince (5% fat type) that had been discounted when I was in the supermarket
Starting to plan a trip away in the van after next weekend, we are going to have eldest granddaughter for the weekend first then we can go away for a couple of weeks.

Thank you, Metheven!

I tried to make a start on that yesterday, Kj. I wrote down the opening mileage and then when I finished work to leave for home, I forgot to write down the closing mileage, so it was useless. Unfortunately, my Smart car doesn't have a trip meter.

Malc, I doubt very much that HMRC will use a tape measure to check how far you have driven on deliveries, just estimate how far, on this occasion, then start the process again on your next shift?
You must have a rough idea based on how many drops you did and the locations?

Rude awakening today, well not quite! Just before 8.00am the doorbell went. We thought they might have been a bit later as they were coming from Northampton. It was the British Heart Foundation lorry come to collect an unwanted bed frame that belonged to one of our sons. Both of our sons have moved house in the last year and we have been used (well our conservatory has) as an in transit warehouse. The bed frame was the last big item although there is still a lot of bits and pieces in the loft!!!
