I enjoy tue Siclian Merlot we get from M&S, La Fortezza, but wait until they have their 25% offer on.
Must admit that we are more partial to Red than White.
Love to try local wines when abroad. We've had great wine at both ends of the price spectrum but seem to remember those that seemed a bargain like the Côtieres de Nîmes from the local Co-operative in Galician, Petit Camargue. Also tried the wines from the Jura which were unusual, Minervois when we get it locally, Beerenauslese from Austria or Tokay Pinot Gris from Alsace. One of the joys of travelling.

Not used that one David - but I use an App called Wotwine. Scan the barcode on the bottle with your phone and it comes up with their sommeliers' opinion plus an indication of what price they would pay. Helped me find some real bargains - and avoid some total rubbish!

Thankyou for the recommendation Wherenext, I will take a look for it in Aldi over the weekend.

I am sitting by the woodburner with a glass of Rioja - M&S have it on the shop shelf at £10, but reduced on line to £5 if you buy a dozen, and my daughter orders it for me with her staff discount bringing it down to £3. It's worth £3.

Hope you enjoy, Cheers!

I've got my Nectar points saved up - just waiting for the next "buy 6, get 25% off" offer at our Sainsbury's and I'll be trying some of these suggestions!
Christmas Dinner is the one meal a year when I like to have bought a nice bottle of dessert wine - don't usually go for the sweet stuff, but with Christmas Pud, it's slips down nicely.(I do repeat the performance on New Year's day so I should have said "two" meals! )

I have a bottle of Campo Viejo Rioja, a full bodied red to go with my Christmas pudding. No-one else likes it so I'll have the whole bottle to myself.

We're not much in the way of drinkers but I've yet to try an NZ wine that I didn't find palatable. Our son and future DIL look out for wines they know from NZ but wineries that export don't always retain the same name 😲. They've done some great bicycle winery tours over there.

Did anyone watch Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley on their champagne tour the other night, I really enjoyed it. We had a lovely two week stay on a house exchange over there and it brought back happy memories. We toured the Taittinger and Mercier cellars, plus a recommended call to a private estate where "Madame" came out of her chateau like house and got us an inexpensive bottle out from the stores in the yard. Happy memories.

I tried to post about the programme yesterday but something went wrong and I never got round to re-posting so thanks for your post. I thought it was quite interesting and you got to know quite a bit about Champagne as well as lovely scenery and a lovely car!

Thanks David ( apologies for the double happy memories bit, must check my editing more.) It was quite entertaining wasn't it, every champagne cellar is different, I think we went round Taittinger in a train. It was interesting to see the Bollinger set up and the grape harvest bit was lovely. I've just heard from our house swap family over there, we've been in touch for years and have met up again since then.

Just had a very nice wine with our Boxing Day meal. It was a Riesling which would not be my first choice of grapes for a white wine but this was rather nice as it was slightly dryer. We purchased the wine when we were in Austria last year from the Klosterneuburg Monastery not far from Vienna. Not sure if it is available in the UK but if you find yourself that way well worth a bottle or two.
