I like that particular Barefoot wine too. I have discovered an Australian brand called McGuigan which is sold in most supermarkets. Their Merlot has a similar "blueberry" taste to Barefoot's and the bonus is its only around £5 a bottle. It's often on offer in Asda for £4.50

I was making some Mac and Cauli cheese to go with sausages tonight and asked Mrs WN if we had any white in the fridge. None in the house came the reply.😱😱

She was sent to the village shop to raid one from their cold fridge. Fortunately she came back with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, Oyster Bay, which calmed me down a bit. Most enjoyable. OK it was £10 but I'm not paying any site fees at the moment!😁

I have discovered an Australian brand called McGuigan which is sold in most supermarkets.

Another McGuigan I can recommend, if you like Provençal style rose, is this one. They have started selling it recently at our village Coop, for £7.50, which is competitive for a wine of this type. I've no idea if the larger supermarkets stock it as we haven't been recently.

We have now tried the two wines I bought a case of and had shipped from France. The rose is exceptional. I could feel the Provençal sun.🌞Went nicely with some BBQ'd duck. The red was a good accompaniment to the joint of pork I roasted on the Cobb BBQ last night.🍷😀 We look forward to using the rest of the cases during our exile from motor homing.

I'll definitely look out for that Steve. I like red, white and rose wines (but not the really sweet Blossom Hill type ones). I've been drinking a Lucotto Pinot Grigio blush (£5.50 from Asda) lately and it's perfect for summer bbqs😊

I know I've mentioned it before, but for those interested in wine, perhaps give a look at the Vivino app.  I occasionally pick up a good suggestion from it.  Available from Google play or the Apple equivalent.

I like the Mcguigan Merlot too but generally go for the Barefoot.  The McGuigan Is nice for a change.

Decided to cook a Coq au Riesling today so I bought a decent white to use as the base. I used 300 ml of the bottle so there was enough for 2 small glasses for Mrs WN and myself to have.

I can therefore recommend Tingle Up from Australia. Bought at Tesco but it was £9. Worth it though as I often find Riesling too thin and isn't a wine I drink often but this one was delicious, especially if you let it warm slightly from chilled.

The Coq au Riesling was voted as most enjoyable by the way.😁🍽️

I've enjoyed an Australian Riesling from Aldi for the last year or two. Cant remember the price exactly but it;s around £6 -£7 a bottle.

It looks as if Aldi have stopped doing my favourite prosecco......  Collezione Oro Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore.  Not seen it for sale anywhere else....  Does anyone know any different?  (I haven't looked expensively).

Has anyone had any experience of Laithwaites, Naked Wines or similar?

I have used Naked Wines (prompted by an offer that came with something). The first case (6 or 12 - can't remember) was OK and becasue of the offer reasonably cheap. But after I declined subscribing I was inundated with more and more advertising emails. I found the marketing far too aggressive, so went back to buying what I wanted to buy, not what I was persuaded to buy.

I just stick to my favourites usually purchased from supermarkets.  My stocks of EU produced wines are now running low and as a tiny protest at the way some EU countries, notably France, are being so bloody minded about Brexit I have stopped purchasing their wines.  Not really a hardship as I usually prefer offerings from countries outside of the EU bloc anyway.

I usually get a couple of cases a year of things the supermarkets don’t sell, from the Sunday Times wine club, which I believe is Laithwaites. The wines have always been good and competitively priced. Although I generally only buy when they have an offer and delivery is free.  I bought a delux mixed case before Christmas, as well as 2 bottles of Champagne which had £20 off and free delivery. Of course the £20 off is a con and the delivery is charged for somewhere. However, the overall price of the wines was very reasonable and they were good. Still have the Champagne though, as of course celebrations were cancelled.

As mentioned marketing is fairly aggressive. However, I ignore the posted ones until something interests me and the land line just rejects their telephone attempts.

I bought the equivalent of a NV champagne from Chapel Down vineyards in Kent, it was excellent so I'm going to try more from them via Waitrose. Just bought their Rose as an anniversary treat. Waitrose have had 25% off six bottles of wine (over £5) haven't taken the offer up but it's a good one.

I've only been once to Chapel Down, and that was years ago Brue.  Wines were really good, but like many of the English wines, they tend to be on the expensive site.  Some years ago our eldest daughter bought me a years sponsorship of a vine at Three Choirs - they do some nice wines too.  We've also been to Wroxeter Roman Vineyard near Shrewsbury - another gift!  Wine tasting + tour, followed by a light meal....  😃😃...  all good fun.

All the wine in our racks is English. Mainly Chapel Down and Three Choirs. White, Rose, Red, sparkling - never really had one we didn’t like.

We used to have Laithwaites and Adnams in Suffolk but when I retired I did away with them both as I didn't want to continue with having to order so many in a year etc. Too much hassle but quite a while ago now.

The selection from Laithwaites was wider than Adnams and they did introduce me to some very decent wines. I preferred Adnams if ordering beer.

I find this Aldi wine very drinkable with or without food. Animus Douro £5.49

    Not the blended one!

The white Verde is also good

I buy a lot of` my wines from Aldi - like a whole lot of people do. Currently quaffing Beachfront Malbec @ £4.99 a bottle. Big and bold flavour with lots of fruit and a hint of stewed apples. I'm not a wine buff but for me that's what it tastes like. I also use Majestic now and again when I see an offer I might like. Their website is useful as you can see customer comments and repeat buys.

By the way. this is my 1st ever post on any of the discussion pages.

    So hello to you all.

Welcome, C1iv3.  Good to hear from you.  At Christmas I bought a nice champagne from Aldi: Monsigny.  I have to admit, I've bought it several times since.  It does cost £12.99 a bottle, but for a champagne, that's not bad at all.. 🙂

There's a good write up about the Aldi champagne here:  https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/aldi-champagne-veuve-monsigny-champagne-brut-international-wine-spirits-challenge-a8407741.html%3famp

......it appears to have gone up in price.....  🙂

I have a few bottles of the very same. A snip at the price they charge. However if you do like a quaff of the bubbly stuff can I recommend you find a bottle of Samur Brut. I bought some from Majestic at about £10 a pop. Bouvet is the brand name. We usually bring a couple of cases back from la belle France. As you know a currently forbidden country! We found the Samur Champigny reds and the bubbly Brut both to our taste but imported stocks are now getting desperately low. I fear the ferry booking for late May will have to be changed yet again!

We tried this Chapel Down rose as a treat this weekend. Not cheap but a similar price to some of the Provencal roses (sorry can't add the accents!). I think I prefer the lighter Provence ones but it has a nice twang, no sweetness, very lemony. OH liked it.

Provençal roses are also our rose of choice. They do however attract a premium, with the better ones only just sub £10 a bottle, even when on 25% off. Particularly galling when my sister is quaffing similar quality wines at 4€.☹️ There is a lovely rose made in the Vaucluse, Vin de Pays, protected origin status, that we were supping in 2019, currently 17€ for a 5 litre box from the winery.

Really must visit Chapel Down again, next time we are down that way.  I think the last time we went we took the caravan to Tanners Farm.  That's been some years ago...
