Positives of the booking system

I have booked commercial sites and I have paid deposits but the C&CC system is far more than that. It is variable pricing and restrictive booking periods. That’s not something I’ve encountered elsewhere.
Are you suggesting that CAMC is not telling the truth concerning supposed block booking and cancellations? Do you know more than the rest of us?

The only real changes that I see over the last 35 years is less unused space on sites, EHU included in pitch fees, removal of deposits and a great new booking system made possible by the internet for many.
I started using CC sites at age 28 with my wife and children. I certainly did not find the members or staff snooty. Quite the opposite in fact. The wardens did exercise discretion. Can't remember with regards to late departures on a Sunday in particular 35 years ago but certainly 28 years ago people asked to stay later and many did. I never did as I preferred to book the extra night as staying to 4pm on a nice Summer's day did not suit me. I would leave just before 9pm having paid for that night or sometimes the following morning.
With regard to 'Some of the present CMC retired oldies even claiming that they are the only age group who can afford caravanning in it's present form.'
I commented earlier that this is not yet a general case although it may well be so in 20 years.

Firstly I discount Rowntree at York - particularly this year as the other York site is closed and Rowntree is a special attraction for many it seems. Hawes is not fully booked at weekends except for the Good Friday Bank holiday weekend and the May bank/statutory holiday weekends. I do not find that in the least surprising - do you?
Knaresborough has plenty of availibility through the year still. Half the weekends in April and May are taken - Bank Hols of course. June inwards plenty of availability.
A lot of weekends are booked up at Chatsworth although there are still availability. Given the sites popularity I consider than no surprise as such has been the case for at least the last 10 years
Folk are planning ahead at this time of year ready for the new season start and its bank hols if they are working and want to make the most of their leave.

firstly, why should the club follow other sites? The club has a system which benefits its members. But the good news is you don't have to use club sites if you think it's not for you.
Could you please show where the club has said otherwise?

I seem to recall they entered into some investment to provide holiday accommodation which did not work out as well as they thought it would and had to write off several million pounds. Can't quite remember the exact details but seem to recall it being in the annual accounts a few years ago.

There is another possibilty, that those now "retiring "are allowed to take a sizable chunk out of their pension pots, which with the increase in leasing of motor caravans could also be helping to increase the market as the increase in sales does not seem to be in line with those who "convert"

I had a marketing E Mail from the club just now and it would appear that whilst a number of well-known sites have vacancies at certain times of the year, there are months which would appear to already be fully booked.

I'm not sure what the future 'market' is. A lot of us grew up in the post war austerity years and the 'make do and mend' mindset that is perhaps perceived as synonymous with camping in all its forms is,IMHO opinion, not the route that the present generation, brought up on cheap flights to sun sand and sangria see as attractive, certainly at the moment.
The financial viability of this lifestyle choice may still prove available as we fall off our perches and what remains of our wealth after care home fees trickles down to the next generation. Will they want too? Who knows.

Positive's of the booking system, you can book as many nights has you like at no cost and cancel as many nights has you like at no cost, and now I have been informed of the loop hole about cancelling with no reprimand from HQ ..thanks for the info😎👍

As far as I can find out they invested in Forest Holidays. They divested themselves from the cabin side of the business at a cost of about 7 million but kept the camping side and took a 72 percent share in what they then called Camping in the Forest. They have a long term mansegment contract of this business which targets non C&CC members.

I've just received the e-mail. It looks as if they've not had as many bookings as they expected. Perhaps FD wasn't as busy as usual and that's why most members that have posted on here have been able to get the dates they wanted!

While it is supposedly targetted at non members, the Forest Sites still come up on a search of the C&CC's booking system and if you try and book one you are taken to the Camping in the Forest's web site where you do not have to be members to make a booking.
Just had a look at the CMCs' FB pages and all the comments on the booking system made there. Not many positives! One called "Frenzy Day" a Pensioners Paradise. What I find annoying is that without exception the FB comments are responded to by the Club while absolutely nothing is said here.

I have always found the bitterness of sour grapes unpalatable.
Strange thing is that when I was working if I had a problem booking a CC site on a bank holiday or during half term etc I never realised that it was solely down to pensioners. And there was I blaming myself for not planning ahead. I must have been daft.

Trouble is not many post on here, only the usual crew which amounts to about twelve,Face book is far better attended and probably why HQ reply more.

I agree and as according to statistics, when we were younger and working there were far less in the "retired" portion of the population, who caused the problems of us getting a pitch at weekends and peak holiday periods
ps also the sites network was no bigger and there were more cls

I like a joke as much as the next but humour can wear thin with the same joke poorly recounted.
The sad thing is that some grasp at such comments and believe them. The truth is if we got rid of pensioners or only let them book two weeks ahead there would be more pitch availability,
The same could be said for weekenders or those with families etc.
There are plenty of pitches left at the large majority of sites after the start of booking day.
I see that Seacroft is showing fully booked around 26TH to 28th May. Damn those pensioners!
