I had the same e-mail and it surprised me a bit. I suppose it's possible that booking day went as well as other years but there is a perception that it was a problem for other people. Did we have a Club Facebook page this time last year. Perhaps there has been some negative comment on there which has prompted the e-mail? I know there have been a few complaints here but the general thrust of comments here have in the main been positive.

Not had the email, perhaps because for first time ever I booked? What does it say?

Just had a look at the posts and responses about booking day on FB, goodness me! Customer relations in full swing but it won't solve the problem for many, especially people who failed to get on line or a get a booking slot whilst others repeatedly got back on for another session. Someone mentioned sour grapes, this is not how I feel about people who are disappointed with bookings and the system. I feel site bookings definitely need upgrading, remove the unedifying scramble for starters.

First time I have looked at a Facebook comments. They certainly get some staff input, almost every post is replied to in some shape or form. It still looks as though some folks are not familiar with bookings day and how it works though. I doubt any improvements to booking system will make obtaining one of the 98 pitches at Rowntree Park on one of 52 weekends any easier though, given how popular it seems to be. It is going to be an interesting first ever visit for us, not our usual type of site at all.

We're booked in there for March using the late release bookings, we previously enjoyed being able to walk into the town so easily and there is a nice park next door plus the riverside walks. I also managed a December booking mid week after the initial bookings rush. Hope you enjoy it, it's a very busy site but in an excellent spot. A lot more pressure this year due to the other York site closure.

Using the rolling system with the other club I have been able to book a very popular Lakes site next May, gauging in advance when it will start to fill up and being prepared to make a deposit to secure it.

We'll be in Keswick (meeting up with friends staying nearby) but use Braithwaite a lot too, busy sites in good places. smile

When those that are disappointed say as much that is fine. When they start blaming other member groups ....... then that's sour grapes IMO.

Of course there is a random element to getting on to booking slot. Click the button and if there is space you get on, if not click again. Perfectly fair IMO

And it does say that one booking at a time then put back in the system there is no mention of a "queue"  just the next "available" slotwink

I can't quote it as it went into the dustbin after a quick glance, but it was plug for a lot of the most popular sites which still had vacant dates.

No  e mail here, and, unusually, we have not booked any sites as yet.

Probably not practical and more difficult to manage. I suspect that if you clicked to join a queue apart from any capacity problems you then have to have a system that kicks you out of the queue after a set time. If not folk will join the queue out of interest or join the queue before leaving for work and give up before they get on thereby blocking the system.

Rather than being kicked out of the queue after a set time I think that the present system is better. Random - maybe but if you keep clicking you stand as much chance as others. I started at 8.15am by 8.30 getting in was pretty quick. I made 10 bookings in those 30 mins.

My bookings will not have affected other members with regard to availability as I have no doubt that I could make the same bookings now

To add: how many people join a queue for a call centre and just give up to try later?

As we wanted Chatsworth for RHS flower show week, I started clicking at 8:00. Assuming they switched it on then, it was clearly instantly saturated. As despite constantly clicking, my broadband allowing about one every five seconds, I was not able to get on until 8:10. When even if  folk had not made a booking they would be booted out. Getting back to the booking screen takes a bit longer. So will have provided more opertunity for others to get in.

Clearly broadband speed does play a part in how easy it is to get on, ours is not fibre but still fairly good. Presumably those with super fast could click even faster. I don't suppose it is possible, but if the number of attempts per minute could be controlled to mimic slow broadband, it would then be truely random.

no, thats not the case as reported by others and experienced by myself.

i made my first booking (fairly quickly, i admit) and then wasnt 'thrown out' but got the option to 'make another booking' which i did.

i could have made others, im sure, but that was me done, until OH suggested a couple of others which i did a bit later in the morning, again both on the same 'session'.

re: a queue....when ypu are put on hold by any modern telephone system, it tells you where ypu are in the queue, and often a projected connection time based on the average length of calls...

the thing with the CC system is that anyone can grab the next 'available slot' if their 'click' coincides exactly with the next vacancy....not very scientific, nor 'fair to those who have been waiting the longest.

The OP title is "positives of the booking system" and I think we all agree there are many positives of the system - its simplicity, and ease of amending bookings - even if we don't like "frenzy day" itself. Apparently there is the possibility of a change to the system for next year. In which case, maybe the time has come to put this sort of discussion, which inevitably ends up focussing on the negatives of the booking system, to bed for now and look forward to a clearer statement about what any changes involve. smile

When i made my first booking i got two on my first access, but as said in another past somewhere, not going hunt for it,all programmes will have glitches and also it very much depends on how fast the internet in your area but i was just "quoting" the cc not trying to as some think defend it, the post i answered was "quoting" a queing system which is just  not correctundecided

please as noted in the past try to Read the posts before attempting to as seems is your method of posting before Brain? in gearwink

Yes would agree, it is a shame that even when the OP and thread is about positives some can't help but focus on the negatives (they could always start a negative thread?). What ever the new system will supply may still exceed demand?
