As they can use bus lanes they are often just as quick in a town though Malcolm. Also worth checking if they provide any additional perks in your area. As we have Nottinghamshire bus passes we can use them on the Nottingham tram system, which extends out of the city and is a great way to get in. It does not apply to passes from other areas. You may find something similar for your issuing authority.

Bright and sunny morning here in Essex but feeling autumnal. Bedding in the washing machine forecast wet for tomorrow and weekend. Nice day to walk into town to our travel agents as had a call yesterday from them, was planning on popping in today after email from airline changing our return flight, they didn't think change was good because of length lay over time and spoke to airline getting better flight, giving us a few hours more rather than a few hours less with the family 😆. We always use the same travel agent but our chap got promotion and moved in June 😢 they usually manage to shave a few pounds off what we can find online and free seat choice. This incident shows its seems to make sense. In the 8 years we've been going over this is the first time we've had flights amended, apparently we've been very lucky! 😃. OH has dentist later as one of his two new crowns, fitted a couple of months ago, is loose 😲. Both of us feeling a bit nasal this morning - don't want a cold thanks.

Milliehull sounds like a lovely lunch. Glad you enjoyed it and the catch up.

Safe travels Brue and Oneputt and anyone else on the roads today.

    Enjoy your day folks.

Yes, similar here, we get half price on the local trains, plus the airport bus to Edinburgh was only 50p each instead of £6each.

You will not expire without air con for a short time!

Put a positive spin on things and look on the possibly longer journey as a sightseeing trip, you may get to see places you have never seen before.

Last time I took DD's car for service, I saw bits of Glasgow I had not seen before.

We do not have any buses nearby that will take us all the way into the city centre, but we drive to somewhere we can park that has buses, usually our daughter's house,  and go from there.  Parking in the city centre these days is expensive, so we can have a day in town almost free and not have to be constantly clock watching thinking about the big parking charge.

Also great if visiting an unfamiliar place.  We used ours in Edinburgh, where parking is a nightmare, and Aberdeen, taking the bus from near the site in Stonehaven.

Enjoy your trip Pete. Don't usually post en route but we used the new Forth Road Bridge today. A very beautiful bridge.

As a lot of people on site like to nosey, going by bus especially a double decker is a nosey persons dream. You can look into peoples gardens, windows etc in a totally relaxed manner, even take notes if you want to. It's all the things you could not do whilst driving. laughingwink

I love using the bus into Hull from our village for free cool

Cycled into town for a change. Discovered cycle route subway, you can walk it as well, closed 😲 no advance notice. Had to walk along the pavement pushing bikes as didn't want to tangle with roundabout and dual carriageway. Crossed the dual carriageway and had to push bikes through pedestrianised high street. Parked up and did our business. Decided on crossing dual carriageway and using side streets to cycle home - forgot first 2 are one way in the wrong direction. So a good walk approximately halfway home.

Travel agent had rebooked our flights and needed to rebook all our seats. So glad we went through the an agent, as far as the email sent by the airline was concerned just the flight out of Auckland had changed but apparently they'd cancelled the itinerary completely. Unable to book without ringing airline we left him to it and did our shopping returning later. Our seats booked for each leg of the journey and our new etickets printed. Airline wanted £9 a seat booking fee which we didn't have to pay. Cheeky or what?  They changed the schedule 😲. Had we not have booked through an agent we would have been blissfully ignorant of the fact that we didn't have prebooked seats on all flights. When we go in December it will be busy and we might not have been able to sit together 😲. 26 hours is a long time in the air, especially if it's bumpy 😲😲 without a hand to hold 😉.

M&S have their 2 dine for £10 again so dinner sorted - thanks. Bedding dry I'll cheat and reuse as I haven't remade bed yet. Just dying some 3/4 and jeans with Dylon's pod,  did some before and pleased with the results. Chose jeans blue rather than navy this time,  as my mother would say a blind man would be pleased to see the difference certainly on the container 😂.

Gone very cloudy and grey but still warm 15c now. Need to pop to Lidl for few bits after lunch and get grass cut. Very exciting life today.

Brue the new bridge looks beautiful. I understand it's the highest bridge in the country (they may have meant Scotland) so not sure if it's higher than QE2 bridge, I'm not keen on that one!

They don't seem to have bus lanes here in Worthing. The roads to the town centre here are too narrow for that!

When we lived in Gloucestershire about 10 years ago, we used to buy a bus pass called the Goldrider and used to use that nearly everyday for day trips. However, it was not always easy especially having to wait at bus stops in the winter cold for sometimes twenty minutes to half an hour especially in rural areas. Yes I agree you can see more from the top deck of a double decker, nevertheless, I think using the car is much more convenient and quicker when visiting countryside places.

Decent day today,  sun and clouds. Went out on the bikes to the supermarket this morning bought some nice crusty bread and fresh big prawns that was my lunch sortedsmile  After lunch went for a cycle along the coastal  cycleway into Sables d'Olonne. The sea was a little rough with good breakers, quite a few folk out surfing brrrr!  rather them than me. Sat on the sand for  half an hour or so watching them, quite warm once out of the wind.

Decided we will stay until Sunday here, had long discussion on whether to stay or move on. The weather is unsettled for the next few days in the direction we want to go, so stay and wait until it clears. Without time constraints we can afford to wait for the weather a few more days and we are comfy here so why move.

Knee a bit hot after the exercise so ice pack back on, so glad we have ebikes couldn't  have used an ordinary bike just yet.

Malcolm,  re bus passes. They are handy to have we use ours when we know it's going to be busy to get parked in town, tend to do the same as Kj, drive in to my sisters and then get bus from there when it's busy at Christmas time it's much easier. Also we sometimes go to the cinema and have a meal and drink afterwards so no problem then with who is driving. Your problem might be that as your wife is younger than you her cost on the buses may well come to more that the parking cost of the car.

The caravan is all cleared out now and up for sale. I can't believe the amount of clutter there was in there after six years of ownership. The trouble is the house looks a tip now. There car was the same with three small boxes of odds and sods that might be useful. There's almost an echo in there now.

Would not use the bus for countryside trips, but for going into towns it is ideal.

For things like hospital/doctor visits, dentists, picking up prescriptions etc etc,  as you have found, a free bus ride is an advantage.  Why not take advantage of what you are entitled to?

Yes, it can be expensive using taxis. When I used a taxi to get from here to Worthing Hospital, it cost over £11 and then another £11 to get back. The return bus fare to the doctors is £4.40.

The sun came out for a while earlier this afternoon, so we got the table and chairs outside the awning and had our afternoon tea and sandwich. Now it's back to grey clouds and a cool breeze. It looks like the site is starting to fill up for the weekend.

Good journey home and van back in storage.  Met the owner who updated us on the thefts from the compound about 6 weeks ago.  4 vans were stolen, one, brand new £23k worth wasn't insured and being paid by finance!  Other 3 have received insurance payouts and got new to them vans.  Worryingly the police haven't been to see the owner to collect the CCTV footage.

Hope you have a good trip to Norfolk JVB. We are off to Sandringham on Sunday. Fingers crossed for the weather.cool

What good service from your travel agent bakers2. Are you counting the days yet?  We had a really lovely person in a local travel agent who booked our holidays for many years and really looked after us so well.  Unfortunately she has now moved out of the area.frown I don't like the sound of your bike ride this morning.surprised

We have bus passes that we use a lot both at home and when we go away.  It is much cheaper and easier than parking the car in the city centre when we are at home and much less stressful when we are away and don't know the local area. I like travelling through the countryside on a bus especially if it is a double decker and you can get on the top deck. You see so much more.

Look after that knee Tammygirl. Hope the weather settles down soon for you.

Thanks Millie when at Sandringham we tend to use the Buses on the main  road bus stop opposite the social club including Coast Hopper they are much more frequent than the hourly service outside the site entrance how long are you there as the North Norfolk Railway 1940s weekend next weekend, its suposed to be good as Sherringham also gets into the spirit

Just been to Hebden Bridge and really made most use of bus passes whilst there. On one day we actually used three different bus numbers to get where we were going.  Best thing since sliced bread!

Glad you're back  safe and sound.  Gosh I'd be pretty gutted that I was having to pay for something on finance and not have anything to show for it yell.  The foolishness of not insuring!  I don't expect the police will be bothered with cctv after all this time - terrible.  Mind you I think the Norfolk police are busy reviewing what went on at Cromer.  I thought the Chief Constable looked very uncomfortable last night on the local news at the open meeting, and tonight with Stewart White.  He seems like a genuine sort of chap but I reckon he's having sleepless nights at the moment surprised
