Why do we have a Club Chaplain?
I've spotted the role of Club Chaplain amongst the list of Officers and Committee Members.
Why does a caravanning club need a chaplain? How much does it cost to have a chaplain? Is it just another jobs for the boys/girls scenario?

It's a she, Dave, they all are these days.

interesting question, hope the club comes on here and answers. We have a school chaplain but it is a non paid position and caters for all religious needs from whatever regilion. Faith schools have a paid position. I really can't see a need in the club though?

What role does this lady play? I seriously question the need for a chaplain in CC.
It's ironic when one dares not mention religion on the forum.

Oh dear. Gets worse dunnit.

No disrespect intended to the lady but is that a necessary function within CC? Surely anyone could judge cakes.

Was she judging hot cross buns perhaps - needs a vicar for them ?

Is cake judging a necessary function?
I think it's time the CC separated the business side from the club side of things like the RAC did. Then those of us who just want the services could become associate members

notwithstanding the judging of cakes on important programs like COTY, would her 'serious duties' be pertinent to CC staff, its customers, both or (as it might seem) neither?

It depends if this is an honourary position, perhaps when the club was founded in 1907 (?) it was the done thing to have one and it might be a condition of the founding of the club and still carried on to this day. I hope it's honourary and unpaid as I haven't
really noticed any input and didn't even know we had one till today.0 -
You could be right Vivien but if we need a chaplain we ought to get all bases covered and I look forward to hearing about the Club Rabbi, Imam and Warlock in due course.
Or we could remember it's 2016 and this is a caravanning organisation perhaps?
either works for me

I'm bumping this because I'm not asking a frivolous question or trying to cause trouble.
I genuinely want to know why a club devoted to caravanning and motorhoming and all the associated services has a chaplain?
i could email but I have no expectation of a reply and I think a few others would like to know as well

I agree Jay. This isn't about a particular Religion or individual but about why cater for one section's beliefs but ignore all other faiths. Easiest way is to leave it to the individuals by having none or cover all. Inclusivity is the watchword. You can't
be fairer than the secular approach.0 -
I agree that I can't see the point, or the need, and await the club's responce, but to be fair although chaplain has Christian roots, a chaplain in an organisation/non faith school is to cater for all beliefs and religions.

Oh I can accept that a chaplain caters for all beliefs and religions (except my beliefs), I just want to know why we have one.
My calendar says 2016 and the things I'm reading in CT at the moment don't really tie in with a club that's interested in our spiritual or indeed other welfare.

As this good lady is also a member of the Club Council, I hope she has some caravanning experience and isn't there simply because of her role as chaplain which, as far as I'm concerned, has no relevance whatsoever to our leisure activity.
