I agree, Rocky. If CAMC mends its ways and achieves some order out of the chaotic disorganised place it's become, including the booking system, then why not rejoin? Never say never. Like you, I don't have an issue with deposits, only with the woolliness of the T&Cs.

I am not adverse to deposits but it seems the T&Cs are far to restrictive,

And with as many age and medical issue they are not good for us or many of this clubs demographic

Even after two months the booking system is still not fit for purpose unless it you are IT competent which seems there are many members that are not, when the call centre. is still difficult to contact. even with add staff it seems that are as we found at least in Glasgowsurprised

and as for using this clubs WiFi when on site to make a booking it is unusable which under clubs USP was not a problemundecided

That is not the case using Windows 10 and Firefox Steve. Neither hovering over it or clicking on "Full"  brings up a closed indicator.

I am not adverse to deposits - agree

but it seems the T&Cs are far to restrictive - in terms of comparable other providers they appear to be the best, 21 days, pay on arrival... rather than a month/six weeks before and usually no refund at all.

Perhaps they are not good for you personally and if others in the many category are similarly affected then club sites are maybe not be the best fit.

Even after two months the booking system is still not fit for purpose...

Well yes and no, I've done a few bookings and while more (unnecessarily) complicated than before it does work but I know where I want to go so as posted (was it YT?) it may depend on where you're trying to go and how you tour? I admit others are having problems.

and as for using this clubs WiFi when on site to make a booking it is unusable

Well this was true before the new booking system. The club's on site wifi (I have given up on it) has nothing to do with the new booking system.

We differ in opinion re T&C’s JV. T&C’s. . .It is what it is, they are there for a reason that reason being-‘this is the minimum we expect from you’ explicit in their meaning. If you or I don’t agree then we don’t use the product. I think they’re fine & am happy to follow them or suffer the consequences. They are not for us to disagree with just to follow. WiFi I see as my responsibility. Free WiFi?-thank you very much. I see it as a good thing for free but I provide my own regardless👍🏻

There does seem to be a bit of variation between platforms and what is shown, as AD mentions above. I’ve also tried it on chrome on the iPad with the same result as my default of safari. Perhaps there is a browser / platform out there where it works correctly, as they imply in their list of fixes.🤔

The original usp booking system was we found never a problem using the clubs annual paid for WiFi system even if slow at times, but the new system?needs so much information the site site WiFi seems cannot cope as it "looses it "before a booking is complete

The T&Cs are far to draconian for our and many others it seems situation

No it really is unusable now CS, or at least the free side is. When tried in September / October it wouldn’t access the booking system at all, just kept crashing. The old system used to work fine.

As to the paid side, I doubt it would work  very well, as speeds are generally only 1 / 2 mbs. This was adequate for the old booking system, but not the new one, which seems happier with over 5mbs.

I don't think the T&Cs are particularly restrictive, JV, and they are more generous than those of many other holiday companies. What they do lack is clarity which leaves too many grey areas.

I don't believe CAMC should make any allowance for age in terms of deposit refund leniency. Illness strikes folk of all ages and, realistically, if we reach the stage of having numerous conditions and appointments, perhaps we should reconsider our future in LV-ing. There is no point at all in any business taking deposits if they then refund or credit them for each and every cancellation or alteration. It is incumbent on each of us to make our own judgement before parting with our cash as to whether we are prepared to forfeit it if necessary.

As for site wifi, it's always been rubbish.

Just for information, W11 desktop with 'Slimjet' a reduced resources of Chrome works OK with the map. With any luck glitches in other platforms will be corrected after they leave school.

Then it’s obviously not for you JV. Draconian?, it can’t really be draconian JV. If it is as severe for you & many others you & they should just stop using the product. I once used a Gym in the city that had very few rules other than respect & common sense. They then introduced a 5 minute per piece of machinery rule to make more money. After being told a few times my time was up I left-draconian rules see. Others did the same. Within months the Gym dropped the 5 min rule. People power. The fact CAMC is still doing well with the mantle-most popular leisure provider(words may differ) proves the epithet draconian isn’t shared by many👍🏻

The USP this club has binned was a very workable system for many of what has been posted several times the demographic of this club as many have said it just needed for the latest cancellation to.be extended from the 72hrs to a longer period

We are still honouring the bookings we have with this club ,and as many we have spoken to on this clubs sites and on a commercial site last weekend most in our age group ,next year will be very interesting as to pitch use with this club

And it has yet to filter down to members that the mid week discount has also been withdrawn from all sites

The USP was not taking deposits and allowing free cancellations. Of course ir suited many but those days have gone whether we like it or not. I dont see the age card plays any part in this. We now have to adhere to the new terms......or walk away. 🤷‍♂️

But when you book an airport hotel, as we have also done and had to cancel, there are probably a dozen or more alternatives within a radius of a mile or so, so it's little surprise they offer such generous terms! Doesn't seem to me a fair comparison. wink

Reading this thread as an outsider now a couple of things strike me - firstly, regardless of the apparent cock up in introducing the new system,  there is no doubt that the t&c are considerably more generous than most other comparable and alternative forms of holiday accommodation - when we book cottages it is not unusual to pay a 25% non returnable deposit and the balance anything like a couple of months in advance. And similarly for overseas packages.

And secondly, it seems the argument is that any possible disadvantage is greatest for those of, shall we say, a certain vintage. But many earlier threads, if my memory is correct have criticised the advantage those very folk enjoy over younger, working families; a common comment was that more needed to be done to encourage them and make it possible for them to book sites. Isn't that what the new t&c are intended to do?

Strange old world, ain't it? undecided

You've mentioned this before David and likewise when we flew out we also had the same arrangement, but that arrangement cost more, if we had chosen a pay upfront on booking we would have got it about £10 per person cheaper.

But really I would say the the comparisons different T&Cs is just pointless, they are what they are and all one can do is accept them or go elsewhere as Rocky points out.

As to the club losing out, that doesn't add up on a few levels. Club sites are far busier at weekends with younger and working people so they are losing out much less.

Also if people are being driven away  where are they going to go? It is obvious  that other comparable providers are even worse T&Cs than the clubs. If someone as described by JVB cancels all they will lose is the deposit but on other providers it has to be paid upfront and they would lose everything

Well maybe they weren't at the time? In any case it was the most convenient for the airport and we always choose airport hotels with that in mind, no point otherwise for us. It's location first not counting the pennies.

    Thanks for looking btw

Pass? But at this time of year £5 a night cheaper than where we are now and we had a full service hardstand pitch

The other site we have two bookings for next year  (£10 per night cheaper than the equivalent this clubs site)the owner did not want a deposit and just a phone call as early as possible if we cannot make it

Now that is consideration of the older generation

The club site we are on now is about a third full? and usually a very popular site not just at weekends

Looking at what the situation is now the pendulum has really swung if other it seems find?the other way? In respect of the original demographic of the club ?

Well, if I've understood that correctly, that's exactly the point I'm making!

How often in the past have we read (about the old booking system) comments along the lines of "it's all right for retired folk who can pick and choose when and where to go,  but if the club don't do more to encourage younger members it'll have no future".

Maybe that pendulum needed to swing! Still,  from what I can understand, the club t&c are still considerably more generous than most other providers.

So if correct then sites will be even more empty midweek and still unable to find weekend pitches on the honeypot sites and more if that is how this clubs T&Cs will pan outundecided

As you have? and we are now booking elsewhere. ,or are until this club remember a large part of the membership and their requirements ,and fully explain their T&Cs

Mind with the way this clubs management have treated the members in the past and present it could be a long waitlaughing
