    Us to smile

If we have to travel without food in the fridge so be it.

Medical insurance we already do, driving permits are only a few pounds, green cards are usually free with your car/caravan  insurance.

We lived in Europe pre EU days and live to tell the tale, we even caravanned in Austria, Italy and all over Germany.

As to the French causing trouble at the ports, what's new there. Been there done that.

The Germans have been going to Croatia or should I say the former Yugoslavia for as long as I can remember certainly since the early 70s so the fact that loads of them are there nowadays doesn't surprise me at all. They used to go for the naturist campsites of which there were many in Yugoslavia.

The 90 days in 180 could be an issue if you like to spend the winter there but it won't be long before they have a visa so no need to panic.

Stay Calm and Carry on, we are British after all. laughinglaughinglaughing

Well, you (and us!) will just have to hope that some deal is cobbled together which avoids the recent reports of Brits not being allowed into EU countries. surprised

Although we won't be doing it with a van, we have high hopes for a river cruise booked for May and a Greek island holiday later in the year. smile

We were lucky enough to get away just before the pandemic took full force this year, but had to cancel two planned trips later in the year. Just have to keep our fingers crossed for 2021.

Weekend break to Lille in the spring, Plymouth-Roscoff with caravan in May, then Provence in August. Nothing will stop us going to France.

David we are due to go on the Bilbao route at the end of April, also carried over from this year on a flexi ticket.

If for any reason we don't get the vaccine in time, we will just bump it to later in the year, then go across on the tunnel for a few weeks once we can.

Like you we don't want to lose another year, after all one of us is going to be 70 next year wink

I'm finding myself in complete agreement with your last paragraph. Like you I have found (and I realise how extremely lucky I am) lots of other things to do while this is on, and done things that I wouldn't have dreamed of doing otherwise. Of course that is not to say the pandemic has been 'worth it' in any way.

No travel plans for me, apart from one site booked more than a year ago over May BH later on in the year. I hope to travel to Italy again to see friends and family, a package holiday, but won't book anything till things stabilise a lot.

The main thing from our point of view was the year that went missing was the last straightforward one for travel in the EU. Hopefully what we end up with won't be any more onerous than it was when we used to go before we were part of the EU. We switched to a MH with the firm intention of using it in Europe for at least one tour a year, whilst we still could. In that respect 2020 was certainly a year lost.

Certainly agree with the sentiment. I’ve become increasingly restless as this year has dragged on. I’m much happier travelling than sitting at home reading a book or trimming the roses. The sooner we get going again, the better. That’s not intended to be dismissive of those who’ve suffered during this awful year, but we owe it to ourselves to get the maximum out of life in whatever way that works best for us and those we care about. My biggest problem will be fitting it all in, I find myself with 2 ferry (Spain & Greece) and 4 Easyjet tickets all bumped from various cancelled plans this year including Xmas in Gibraltar.

I honestly find that phrase "lost a year of life" a little upsetting. Many have lost lives, forever.

For some, particularly the less able, they have truly lost a year of their life. An example is a friend of mine (many others in his situation) He is confined to a chair or bed most of the time, cannot stand unaided. Has been unable to have visitors rom initial lockdown until end of September. By end of October was again unable to have visitors and at the end of November had deteriorated and now in a nursing home. Can now visit through glass but his speech is so poor that it is impossible to communicate. For me personally I enjoyed much of April through until end of October busy working outside most of the time.

"The main thing from our point of view was the year that went missing was the last straightforward one for travel in the EU"

not sure i share this obesssion with travelling overthere, although we have done it many times, for us there are many beautiful areas within the UK, some we have explored, some we have not, and if you take the advantage of being retired and being able to travel at off peak times, and the ability to either easily hitch up the LV and go, or even rent a cottage somewhere and just go, then this is fine for us, ok the weather is sometimes not that great, but after surviving for 74 years and enduring the UK weather, which i have to say is an improving picture, our take today is, if travelling within the EU becomes a logistical obstacle then we wont do it.

We have tickets for the ferry to France, if we cant use them in 2021, then no great loss, they were purchased nearly 12 months ago so it is water under the bridge, we already have 1 month booked on a site in the UK, yes we are fortunate to have a family beach house some 10 minutes away and an apartment in Spain we can use.

We love going away in the caravan and hope in 2021 to get out and about as much as possible, but if it has to remain parked at the side of the bungalow, we will get over it.

The nice lady in the newsagents asks me everyday if i am ok, stock response

"stood up and the sun is shinning, or the rain is making my hair curl"

off to walk Fido along the beach, sun is shinning and i am able laughing

In this area it seems more people are wearing face shields  me included now rather than masks  ,it helps me  in shops if staff wear them as i can see what is being said ,instead of trying to understand the muffled speech and my glasses do not get steamed up have you considered trying one with your daughter

I'm inclined to agree, WTG. It's been  year of lost opportunities in some respects but a year to gain others.

A lost year of life it cannot be except for the unfortunate folk who have genuinely lost this year and all those that follow.🙁

It took the best part of 3 years, not helped by the epidemic, to get my grandson diagnosed and registered for educational support; although the school have given him extra help and attention over the last 12 months.

Not at all WTG, I was replying to AD who we correspond with and he knows my OH is 70 next year, just a bit of light heartedness. No jibe at anyone sorry if you felt it was.

We to have plenty of interests but I do feel that we have lost a year of travelling, going to places we have been trying to get to for the last 5 years but with one thing and another we have not yet made it.

I deliberately  didn't use the phrase 'lost a year of life' I wrote 'lost a year' by that I was meaning lost a year travelling. smile

There is 1 simple solution to all our travel woes,

get out your Santa outfit and go whereever you want,

Just watching the BBC news, and they have reported that Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, France all have lockdowns/travel bans in place that are at least on a par with ours if not worse, but Santa is exempt laughing

Maybe we could extend Christmas into 2021 and then we could all buy Santa outfits. cool

I think the best thing to do is also book sites in th UK for the same time that you`re thinking of coming to the continent. should be able to cancel one or the other without too much financial loss.

The way things are going you really have to be realistic, Travel before September, don`t think so.

I have a voucher from P and O for the ferry crossing Calais - Dover - Calais that I could not take in May 2020, lasts one year from postponed trip, I do not think that I will be able to come to the UK in May 2021, Covid will stop that and thats not being a pessimist. No refund according to P and O.

Just bought a Macron mask, that should get me into France wink oh no it won`t, now he`s got covid.

I think it does not really matter where we go as long we can have a holiday, for me thats here in Germany.

    Face shields do not protect!

    Keep safe.

    Happy christmas to you all.

"We understand that not everyone has been able to use their membership this year, so as a little thank you for your loyalty we are giving you 3 months free membership. This extension has been added automatically so you don't need to do anything."
