Should be in France now for 6 weeks but all has been cancelled, also Lake Garda in September.

Hope things improve soon as all of us do, but have decided to abandon European trips for this year just seems to much hassle at the moment.

It's all getting a bit confusing, at least for me it is. Let's see if I've got this right.

We are one of the last heavily populated European countries to be affected by the Virus. So we've had a chance to see how it affects other countries such as Spain and Italy who haven't been coping so well with the epidemic but Germany seems to be doing better so...

We do nothing for quite a while, oh apart from have a few COBRA meetings but the PM can't be bothered to attend.

We continue to allow uncontrolled and unchecked people to come into this country then..

We decide it might be getting a bit hairy so we start checking to see if we have a few PPE's lying around in a cupboard somewhere.. and we also don't want to join in with other EU countries to order some when they ask if want to join them when they do..

The PM decides that he should address the nation and asks that we all behave ourselves so that's that sorted..

But, despite being given months of notice of what might happen we are still unprepared for it when it does. We've decided to follow the Spain and Italy route rather than those Germans, who are still doing rather well in the circumstances...

After 30,000+ deaths the PM decides, enough is enough and we can all go out again, except you can't if you live in Wales, Scotland or N.I.

He then says that we are going to have a quarantine imposed on anyone coming into the country, after already allowing over 1,000,000 in without one, but it will be ok if you enter via Ireland or France so Dutch and Germans etc. will have to catch their ferries from Calais now plus anyone arriving on a plane from say Brazil in Paris can waltz in without any quarantine...

But now he says Whoa.. Haven't thought this one out properly. We'll make everyone have a 14 day stay at home holiday when they arrive so France naturally says Up your BJ...

    Is that about right?

Oh forgot to mention something about one of his top advisors not being subject to the same rules as everyone else,  I think though we will probably find out there's a special rule for Govt advisors.

If I've missed something it's because I'm still confused...

On the evening news it suggested that France would mirror any restrictions other countries had in place. So if the UK require a two week quarantine period France would impose that on people coming into France from the UK. I am sure a sensible compromise will be struct but if not you will need to add four weeks to your holiday, two out and two in!!!

It gets better WN, Greece is out of lockdown,  the Greek islands are opening up for International business as of July (14 day quarantine just now) but its not allowing folk from the UK as our infected score is to high.

Spain has announced today that they are also opening up for tourism as of July (not sure if that means UK  allowed or not)

Until the foreign gives an indication of when its safe to travel its all pretty much pie in the sky.

According to Jamsdad, the French have been imposing a 14 day quarantine since 2 May? So why do the UK media make it out to be some kind of reprisal by the French? It's all getting too political!

Can't seem to find the truth anywhere these days, so we're staycationing in England - charity begins at home!

I don't think they are. My understanding is that the French and British have/had a reciprocal agreement that meant that a quarantine would not be applied to each others citizens. But this seems to have been overturned by the PM's recent statement. See here

Until the FCO changes their "essential travel only" advice, you'll be uninsured either way.

We should be in France now, for 6-weeks, but had to cancel.  Being in our mid-80’s, loss of a year is critical for us, but the obviously sensible thing to do is to play it safe and be patient.  Covid-19 is not something to be messed about with, and if it takes severe restrictions to keep the disease under control then so be it.  Premature easing to satisfy impatience will get us nowhere if that caused spikes and a resultant resurgence of the disease.

We have laid up our caravan until next year, in the hope that strict disciplinary measures will give greater promise for 2021.

The Connexion suggests it will be a voluntary 14 day quarantine and not enforced

Being in the 80+ brigade myself I understand the 'loss' of a reducing foreign trip quota! However, I have a friend of 95+ who is still pretty active so I've decided to follow him!!!!!!

    Keep safe!

We were due to arrive at Camping de la Baie yesterday as part of a six week expedition like you. Only comfort is that there's no one else down there on pitch 60. We're in our mid -seventies, and Cath is 'shielded', so like you losing a year is uncomfortable. Furthermore, our 18 year-old  motorhome is in secure storage with a completely dead battery - we were hoping to get another couple of years out of her ( the 'MH that is!)cool

With the UK leaving the EU this year, we really wanted our Euro trip 2020 to happen allowing us the freedom of various border crossings and without additional paperwork that 2021 may bring.

We still have €700 in cash floating around just waiting to be spent, here's hoping next year will allow us as near to trouble free travelling as we can possibly hope for.

Maybe not the right place to ask and i am sure the info has been given before, but does anyone use a single trip insurance covering all eventualities e.g. single point of contact for breakdown, recovery, medical. Normally use Redpennant which we have never had to use, but am thinking of not renewing membership as Red Pennant is the only thing i use the club for in the main. Barclays via their current account, which we have , has been muted, but i think they use the RAC in europe for recovery and some report they are not great and i think they have a 7metre max limit for length of caravan as do the AA,

Rufs cannot help.  I use Red Pennant.  However, I am losing the plot as to where we stand on travel to France and beyond.  14 day isolation in France as UK but if  transiting France maybe not and so far as other countries are concerned what then!foot-in-mouth.  We remain hopeful that by Sep we will be getting clearer advice, but what about insurance if Govt advice is do not travel (therefore not covered); all to complex for me at the moment!  Will just go back into the garden and enjoy UK at it's best today.

Rufs, Have a look at LV insurance - that one company can provide normal car insurance cover in the event of a crash or accident, which can include breakdown and recovery insurance too,  and the company can provide medical and travel insurance as well . Three in one.  But  it's not a direct copy of Red Pennant by any means.

Rufs, I am in both clubs and use the other one for personal/medical cover which I've found very reasonable.  You can combine it with vehicle cover too.  You don't have to be a member but there's a discount if you are.  I don't think you'll get cover or a quote right now.

Thanks folks, not expecting anybody to underwrite insurance just now, but for sure they will all be back in action and touting for busiiness before the summer is out

Rufs, I've just checked the two Club's insurance offerings, currently suspended, but both are saying they will not cover anything to do with coronavirus.  Whether that will still be the case once it's safe to travel, I don't know, but personally, I will be looking elsewhere if they can't provide medical and repatriation cover if anyone is struck down with the virus.

I've checked with Staysure and they will provide cover in the event of coming down with corona.  I've had quotes from them before and they are quite a bit dearer than the C&CC.  Today's quote from them for 3 months in Spain is around 3-4 times dearer.

thanks, yes i have used Staysure before, will wait awhile longer to see what pans out, Spain borders will be open, but would need France to do same. As they will probably be our only outing this year we may have to splash the cash a little bit if we want to go

Autumn crossings of the Bay of Biscay together with not liking to put the dog through the stress of a rock and roll journey spoil that option for us, and we have had a couple of shockers.

Well the latest from our Prime Minister is from the 2nd of June campsites, bars restaurants and beaches/lakes also museums, in bars and restaurants you will have to wear a mask and once seated you will be able to take them off, as to campsites we presume it will be up to the sites which will open and others may open later.

Should be ok for July rich 81.

Very warm here at present 32C forecast for today.

Instead of relying on hearsay it would be better to go on to the various Govt websites to see what "opening up" actually means.  The UK Gov website has quite a lot of info and the French one too and has a translation into English.

I won't be making any plans yet no matter how tempting it seems.  And don't forget insurance may not cover you for Covid related issues.
