After reading about cleaning venetian blinds, I'am glad I haven't got any.😉😉 sounds like hard work!

Glad you enjoyed your day out Brue, lovely pictures.

We are home again this weekend,  a few jobs to get done at home and Trevor still keeps finding little jobs to do on the MG.😯😯

He had to take the starter apart on the Freelander today.  It's has been sluggish when starting, battery and alternator tested and both ok so decided it must be starter motor. Took it to bits,  replaced a washer and new nut and now all ok.☺ Probably would have been a total new starter motor if he'd taken it to a garage 😕😕😕

Enjoy Cornwall Moulesy, lovely pics of the Gardens.

    Have a great weekend folks.☺

Bakers2 have you thought about doing one of the Motorhome courses that the club offer? It might give you the confidence to drive your motorhome so you can still get out and about.

I don't feel confident towing our new van as it is much longer than any of our others.  When away and Trevor's ear pain got much worse I thought I would have to tow home and really didn't feel happy about it. I must give it a go to gain confidence, just in case.

Not a good day, very autumnal grey drizzly yet still warmish out. House feeling chilly though so I have the heating on very low to take chill off.

Managed to get out to shops without getting to wet. Bit of food shopping then round for a cuppa with my sister on the way home. Spot of lunch then wanted to go out to sort the car and caravan but the rain was back on again, its was  supposed to get really bad (weather warning) around 4pm but nothing bad yet, so hope they have it wrong as we are going away tomorrow for the night to escape next doors party.

Decided to do some batch cooking as I couldn't do anything outside, so now cooling is a very large Lasagne and a chicken curry. Still to make a chilli but as I used all the mince up in the lasagne it will have to wait for another day.smile

Milliehull have you been affected by the Hotpoint fire? Wondered if it was affecting Ferry Meadows as well. Been bad for large blazes your way. Fire by A1 (9 units I believe) last weekend was on entrance to farm, not their building and didn't affect the harvest thankfully. I had to ring son to confirm location as he didn't mention it Sunday morning when we spoke. Boys!!!

Thanks for asking Bakers2. No we weren't affected by the fire.  We live the other side of Peterborough and I think that the wind must have been blowing in the other direction as we didn't know about it until I saw it on social media. It must have been dreadful and frightening for the people living nearby though. I see that a group of teenagers have been arrested on suspicion on arson.  Mindless vandalism!! So much expensive damage.  I used to work there as a secretary in a previous life when it was Hotpoint so I know the building and the area well. Yes there have been quite a few bad fires in this area in the last week or so. The fire service must have been working flat out.

It has been cooler today which has been a relief. still a lovely day though about 24 degrees with a nice breeze. Another busy morning at the Cathedral with lots of lovely people coming to see Gaia.  I expect it will be a bit quieter after the schools go back next week although we have quite a few school groups booked though which will be good. We took two of our grandsons to Duxford yesterday.  OH and 12 year old grandson were in their element. Lots of war reminiscences from OH which our grandson loved.  The younger grandson is more of a train buffundecided. We are now in the process of having a new conservatory roof installed as the old one was leaking.  I am sure it will all be lovely when it is finished laughing

Lovely photos brue.  I am so glad you felt well enough to get out and about.  It must have been great to have change of scene.

Your photos are also great moulesy. Enjoy Cornwall.

So sorry to hear that your OH has another hurdle to overcome Bakers2.  I also feel for you about your MH.  I only ever drove ours in an emergency or just occasionally to keep in practise and I am ashamed to say that I have never towed our caravan. Tammygirl's idea of going on a club motorhome driving course sounds a good one.

Your poor grand-daughter JVB. It must have been a very stressful experience for her. Thank goodness for grandad. She must have been so pleased to see you.

I still haven't cleaned by venetian blind wink

Great photos M, we know that area of Cornwall very very well. Lostwithiel is a fantastic little town. Prince Charles’ nursery is up on the hill overlooking the town. We used to canoe from Lostwithiel right down river to Fowey, very beautiful and incredible wildlife. Some of the walks around there, alongRiver Fowey, Polruan, Lanteglos, Lantic Bay are some of the best in Cornwall. Lung busters as well, you need strong cruciate ligaments and thigh muscles of steel to tackle some of them.

We've bought a few plants from the Duchy nursery in the past, but the narrow approach road is easier with a car.

Distinct change in the weather today, a lot cooler.

A family member sings with the local Stanchester Quire (they sing local Wessex songs) so we had an invite to Lyme Regis sea front to hear them sing late morning but I'm keeping a weather eye out as it could be a bit damp down there! They do a lovely rendition of Linden Lea. smile

Bit of help required if locals to area or visitors can help......

We are off to Melrose soon, not in van or MH. We know area to East and North very well, (got East Coast, North Berwick, Rosslyn Chapel, Cheviots area covered) but aside from Peebles, not sure of what might prove entertaining elsewhere. OH will be off cycling, leaving me and Sister with 90 year old Mum, quite sprightly, plus the pooch and his chariot! Long walks are out sadly, but nice towns/villages, picnic spots, will be of interest. Don’t mind doing a good bit of driving, or using railway. Nice tearooms are always welcome. We will be doing Abbotsford, Kelso, Coldstream. It’s West that I don’t know very well. Glasgow a bit too far this time.

I’ve posted here, as it’s not really touring, but if Mods think otherwise feel free to move...

We love Jedburgh TDA, Abbey and castle as well as Mary Queen of Scots  house/prison a few tea rooms good parking and a lovely spot. I think it’s about 20 miles from Melrose.

On a different subject we have booked Jervaulx CL for four nights at end of October after reading a review of yours.

Top of my list would be Traquair House TDA, although I don't know about dogs being allowed? It's chock a block with Stuart history and is a fascinating place to visit. See this LINK

You will certainly enjoy Abbotsford and Kelso (Floors Castle.) There are also some nice forestry walks around the Tweed Valley and it would also be worth looking up the NTS web site for local properties. I expect you know that Melrose has the Abbey and two special gardens and some lovely Tweedside walks.

Hope you all have a good time! smile

Trellis - wow. 🚁 Happy Birthday. Tell us more when you can break away from your celebrations.

Our morning started with bed shopping. 😐 We visited two shops and came away with more questions than answers. Why is furniture shopping such a chore? There’ll be more searching online and comparing styles before a purchase is made.

On the up side, I now have a new iPad. It’s so much quicker than the very old slow one. So it makes typing on here so much easier. It’s only me that has to keep up with it now! 😊

Great present trellis!  A day to remember indeed.

I had a birthday not so long back, so we are being treated to a meal out this evening by DD and SIL.

Meantime I am trying to repair the latch on their front gate, or rather replace it.  Looks like it is a very long time since it was a working latch!

Mixed weather today after a thoroughly miserable and wet day yesterday.

New tyres for the Touareg arrived yesterday and are now stashed in DD's garage until after our next holiday, then we need to find someone to fit them.  They have apparently travelled from  near Grenoble, I suppose there is not much call for this type of tyre (mud and snow) in UK.

Thank you all for your good wishes .We took off from Headcorn airfield (between Ashford and Maidstone ) , climbed to about 1000 ft and were met by a Mk9 spitfire . Circled Leeds castle a couple of times as a photo backdrop , then went off around Kent taking lots more photos . weather was perfect .We were airborne for around 45 minutes , which seemed about 45seconds .Can thoroughly recommend it , if you are an aircraft lover .Tally Ho chaps .

Thanks Hugh. I would check if there are any events on at Jervaulx, as they do have a rally field and do host weddings, but you ought to be fine October. The cafe is lovely, the Abbey is very good, across the road from site, dog friendly so Bella will enjoy. We had the place to ourselves. Loo and shower basis but clean.

We are up that area for Cycling end of September, hoping to sneak into a car park on route very early in morning, before road blocks commence, then staying at Lower Wensleydale.

Jedburgh is on our list thanks, Traquair sounds good as well. We might go to Air Museum up near North Berwick as well, as Club are doing two for one offers.

    Thanks for responses😁

Edit: that sure sounded a fabulous birthday trellis, many happy returns!

kjell, we have snow and mud tyres in garage, it can get a bit deep occasionally round here some Winters!👍

Ttda, we visited the Air Museum near North Berwick only 3 wks ago, you have definitely got a treat in store. Can I suggest you arrive at opening time and view the inside of Concorde before the crowds arrive. We were inside Concorde on our own for around 15 mins. Don't forget to use the free handsets to enrich your experience. A great way to spend a morning.

Bit of a lazy day.  Went food shopping early and kick around site for the rest.  Had a Swiss gentleman and his dog pitched up by us this evening. He told me he was doing a 3 month trip to Norway.  What was interesting was the route he intended to use, the road is called the Deutsche Alleenstrasse, The German Avenue Road.  It runs for 1,800 miles from Lake Constance to Rugen on the Baltic.  After all the years I’ve lived and travelled in Germany I’d never heard of it.  Every day a learning day.  Temperature has been in the 30’s again.

Gee Trellis, that pressie was something else. You've either been exceptionally kind to your stepsons or you have some real good dirt on them.laughing

Banging head against wall day today trying to narrow down a new caravan that matches all of our requirements. Not sure we got anywhere, hence the headache.

Thanks for that Mikey. I doubt it will be quite as busy, as schools will be back, but a good tip. We aren’t that close, staying near Melrose, but it could be a good wet day visit, and we love North Berwick. It will be a cheap visit for the four of us using a Great Day’s Out deal, two for one I think. Mum has never ever been on a plane, way too frightened ever to consider it, but she will be able to tell everyone that the first plane she ever stepped on was Concorde!😂

It’s a lovely area around North Berwick, certainly on our favourites list. Many thanks👍

WN how about not hitting head on wall, it hurts too much😏😱. Could do thinks the other way by deciding what you don’t want and whatever is left, however unlikely, must be the one, as per Sherlock Homes

Whenever we were looking for new caravans, or motorhomes, we always made a list of what we wanted and then started looking for caravans/motorhomes that matched the spec. Although I would add that the dealer was also important just in case we needed support. All of our caravans/motorhomes have been purchased from dealers within 25 miles of where we live.

Make 3 lists WN: 1. What you definitely want. 2. What you definitely don't want. 3. What you are prepared to compromise on. Good luck.

That was some birthday present trellis. I am very envious. Happy Birthday!

Mrs WN is an expert at lists. laughing

Biggest bugbear is Payload!!! In order to get what we want without buying a big caravan it's almost impossible to find any UK manufactured unit that will suffice. We store at home and have a limit of 6.10 metres for total length. Beginning to think that we may have to resort to pinching some of the garden, look at German made vans which tend to carry higher payload and upgrade the car, so quite a bit of extra expense that wasn't planned.

An outside chance could be a PVC with bike carrying area or rear mounted carrier plus a trailer + Mrs WNs small car but you can double your expense.

Shows how desperate we were getting in that we did consider for a very brief moment buying a direct Lunar replacement from one of the dealers guaranteeing the warranty. Then we woke up.smile

Thanks for suggestions but no stone is being left unturned.
