Lovely day down here in the New Forest today. I was up early so went a nice 20 mile cycle to Avon beach and back then a cycle through some of the lovely country lanes. Then this afternoon we visited a wonderful little wartime museum in Sopley ran by the friends of the New Forest a great place ran by very enthusiastic volunteers who gave us a guided tour well worth the money and for anyone visiting the area I highly recommend a visit although the are only open every 2nd Sunday so worth checking before visiting: On the way back to the van we stopped at The Fisherman’s Haunt pub for a pint but ended up staying for a meal got a great Sunday roast Β£14 each and plates were full again well worth the money in a proper countryside setting. HD I do hope your mum is making some improvements fingers crossed.

Hope everyone else has had a nice day.

Bakers2, glad you enjoyed your festival, and Francis you seem to be enjoying the New Forest, it is a lovely area. Enjoy the hot weather to come.smile

We had a a lovely couple of hours at NT Canons Ashby, the gardens were looking very good, plenty of fruit and veg too. I think I prefer them to Upton House. It looked like we might have a storm, lots of dark clouds so we had a wander through the house but it was busy and we have been round before, but we were sure that they had opened up a couple of new rooms. Afterwards we went for a look round the church, which was originally park of a priory.

Added a few of the photographs I took on my phone.

Canons Ashby looks very nice. I used to know Head Gardener there, she took over at Brodsworth when I was a volunteer.

Rose tidying for me this afternoon. We have a lovely Alberic Barbiere that spans the railings on our back gate. Wonderful when in bloom, but needs a proper haircut after it’s big flowering. It will bud up again and flower now right until first frosts. Better than razor wire for keeping tealeafs at bay as well!🀣

our Border Collie can walk for miles, sleep for about 10 minutes and then he's ready for the off again, just a shame my recovery time isn't the same.

It's the same with our Springer, as you know Helen. Keeping up with his walking requirements is what helps me to maintain my fitness.

Sounds as if you and Francis both have had great days out.

Enjoy your stay at Burnham Wick OP. Hope that you get to see the Barn Owl as well as all the other birds round there

We've had a pleasant warm day so was able to get items loaded into the van for our next trip, between walks out with Flyte. "Restful" afternoon watching the TdF. We now have heavy rain but hopefully it will pass over before final walk out.

So sorry to hear about your Mum husky. Such a worry for you. Many years ago when my Dad was in hospital after a heart attack he had delusions and kept saying that the staff were having loud parties. He got very confused and upset.   I sometimes wonder whether it is caused by dehydration. I do think older people find hospital stays very difficult. I hope you get better news of your Mum soon.

I agree about spaniels.  We used to have a springer spaniel and her recovery time after a very long walk was about 10 minutes and then she was up and ready to go again!

Your day out sounds lovely Helen. Lovely photos. Glad you had a good day out Bakers2.

We had a lovely week with our family from N. Ireland. It was so lovely to see them all.  Our son and DIL were so helpful in the garden and did quite a lot of heavy work for us. We decided that as we didn't use the patio at the bottom of our garden and it was getting overgrown that we would do away with it so they completely cleared it and took up all the paving stones.  We plan a (very!) mini wildflower meadow.  Wish us luck! They left yesterday for their journey home via an overnight stop in Cumbria prior to catching the ferry today. The house seems horribly quiet now. I do miss them all.

I hope everyone copes with the forecast high temperatures this week.  Take care.

Well milliehull what can I say? Very handsome reward for B&B. That seems like a swift visit after a long journey but were apt to forget what busy lives our families have to live with children and that 4 letter word work! And I know just what you mean about an empty house and we generally only have one other human, ocassionally two and the dog! Back to a wildflower area, sounds wonderful and only last week one of the gardening programmes said start with a square metre so as not to get overwhelmed.

Nelliethehooker you certainly manage plenty of exercise and nights away. Long may it continue.

Glad everyone seems to be busy and doing interesting things.

Millie, Mrs One brought me a M&S (other brands available) wildflower for butterfly’s planter.  It’s done really well with lots of butterfly’s and insects buzzing around it.  I have now placed it in a small patch in the garden hoping it will self seed.

Nice to hear HD. That really does sound like the after effects of the Anaesthetic. Mrs WN's uncle had a dreadful 2 weeks after his major operation. He had much the same symptoms as Heddlo mentioned in their post. Disorientation, getting dressed at 2am and packing his suitcase etc. At the time they put it down to the beginnings of Dementia. After 2 weeks he returned to normal and cannot remember, even to this day, his actions in those 2 weeks.

Going for a walk today, well this morning anyway. Enjoy your day folks. Remember the Sunfactor cream.😎🌞

So glad to hear that your Mum is back to normal HD.  As others have said it could possibly be the effects of the anaesthetic. I hope things go well for her from now and she will soon be home. Hope all goes well for the sale of your business as well.

I spent a lovely morning today with 2 very good friends in the garden of one of them.  She lives in Stamford and has a lovely courtyard garden. All very pleasant. She also gave me some seed heads for our wildlife garden.

Bakers2, the family were with us for nearly a week.  They had spent a few days with the brother and family of our DIL in Scotland on their way down here. All too brief but so lovely to see them. Hopefully we will go over to see them in NI sometime in October.

Stay safe and well in the heat everyone.

Went to Southend (first and probably the last time). Walked along the pier and back.  Weather was lovely, 27C with a slight breeze.  Just had a walk around the farm tracks, took a peep into the reservoir, quite a few birds seem to have made it home

Very hot her today 29.5c and tipped for warmer tomorrow. Had a full day in garden, thinning back a hedge. Absolutely pooped now. 😴😴

Thanks, B2. We head off tomorrow on our next trip, and all sites booked so don't have to spend time trying to get in somewhere during the holidays.

Glad to hear that your mums back to normal, HD. Hope that it's not long before you can get her home again.

After very heavy rain yesterday evening and through the first part of the night it's been dry today. It was cloudy early on, which was good as we had to go to town for final shopping, and then the sun came out about lunch time and it's started to warm up here too. Now have virtually clear sky......but isn't it getting dark quickly!!

Pleased to read your Mum is on the mend Husky,  smile

Had a surprise visit from our youngest son yesterday, they had come down as his girlfriends Grandad had sadly passed away.

Had an eye test yesterday lunchtime , prescription has changed so I need new glasses, didn't have time to choose frames yesterday so going back today,  I fear this is going to be expensive.surprised

Safe trip Nellie, which direction are we heading this time?

    Enjoy your trip Nellie.

Good news Husky, hope your Mum is doing well.

I shall miss our family visitors when they go Millie.

Very warm here and a very warm night, woke up because of the heat.

Misty outside just now, a true heat haze.

Woke up to a beautiful morning. Jumped out of bed and half an hour later was in the car. 10 minutes later pulled into a car park and walked up our highest local point, Moel Fammau (Mother Mountain) on the Clwydian Range. Wonderful at 7.30 in the morning, nobody else on the walk. Views across the Wirral Peninsula and onwards to the cathedrals in Liverpool were stunning, but couldn't see Blackpool Tower as a slight mist over the sea. Met another early bird at the top but that was it until I hit the car park again.

Back home for coffee and shower and hang the washing out. Have to wait in this afternoon for a "man that does". Front Door needs rehanging.

Enjoy your trip Nellie. How long is it this time, 4weeks?

I have a feeling Helen that I might need to go back as I seem to have developed a problem with my right eye. Thought I got away with no expense as I didn't need to change glasses or lenses when I had the test in March but might have spoke too soon.

Wherenext the start to your day sounds wonderful. I'm very impressed with jumping out of bed!

Like brue we won't be walking it's 32 here and very warm sitting in the garden in the shade with an ocassionally waft of breeze. It was 26 when I got out of bed, far too hot to jump even if I had the energy! The hospital rang cancelling days OH'S cardio rehab class due to the heat. Just as well as we'd decided it wouldn't be sensible anyway.

Managed to get OH Dr's appointment - different and lower dose of statins to try, fingers crossed they don't upset him. He's to take iron and have a course of B12 injections, 3 times a week for 2 weeks, so more days prebooked. The waiting room was extremely warm but Tesco's was a relief afterwards boarded on the too cold.

Milliehull I seem to recall you posting about your OH and B12 ??

Have booked a heating service as yesterday the upstairs radiators had all come on 😲😲, just what is needed in this weather. I have turned both valves off on each of them for the time being. The bathroom one didn't always remain cold so it was on the to do list, as missed regular service.

Had a lovely surprise, friends from Scotland coming to visit next week as part of their holiday πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ. Really difficult to catch up with them as they have grandparent duties term time and could only manage 2 nights for the wedding. Something nice to look forward too.

Oneputt was the tide in at Southend? Always looks better if it is! Did you visit Shoeburyness? That peninsula on the other side, Rochford  Canewdon etc well know witch territory. Canewdon alledgely where himself tried to halt the tide, full of creeks. Old Leigh at Leigh on Sea is beautiful with the cockle sheds and cobbled streets - very different to Southend.

Hot here too, so we have just been relaxing.  OH has lost count of how many loads of washing she has done now, one of the downsides of a long trip!  I am reliably informed that there is only one load to go, and have been given a big basket of (mainly my) socks to pair up.

Not yet back into the swing of things, we need to book eye tests and dentist as they have both been e mailing us, and check on requesting prescriptions.  Also need to sort a visit to our solicitor as we want to alter our wills.

Some outside  house maintenance is required while we have decent weather, mainly checking woodwork and sealants, but it is too hot just now.

OH needs to sort cleaning and  boiler servicing for the Guide Hall, and finish doing the books, ready for the auditor, so plenty to keep us occupied.

I am sweltering but I got up especially early so that I could be back down and home before midday. Had to take the short way up though which is a bit steeper as the longer walk adds 3 miles on. Good job I left my shower until I got home.smile

We often walk along the range in summer and for those who no longer do steep ascents then there is a car park that you can use on a back road from Loggerheads to Llanbedr DC (don't use it if towing or in a large m/h though!). The walk in from this car park, the second one you come to arriving from Loggerheads, is gentle and will lead you to the tower that forms the peak.

I remember the first time we walked up from the first car park mentioned above. We took the very steep ascent through he forest and you pass a woodcutters brick shed about 400 yards up the walk. Our little westie had the hackles up on her neck when she passed it and kept growling and barking at it as she took the long way around it. We told someone this when we got to the top. They told us that many years ago a young schoolgirl was kidnapped and killed and her body was hidden in the building! Dogs eh? Wonderfully intuitive animals.

Swelteringly hot around here today. Had a meeting with a gardener this morning, hoping for a quote to sort out Mums garden. He really knows his stuff, not the usual slash and mega prune type, or someone who only wants to mow lawns or trim hedges. Awaiting quote now.

Such a glorious day, we headed out through Chatsworth and spent a lovely afternoon at Haddon Hall. Too hot to spend a lot of time in gardens, which are looking beautiful, but had a great  time looking around the hall. It’s a film set from beginning to end, it’s featured in so many films and TV productions. Mum did fantastically well, climbed all stairs, in and out of all the little rooms, kitchens and chapel. Had a great surprise in the Chapel, two bats flying around in broad daylight! Never seen that before!πŸ˜€

Lovely warm weather down here today been 28 degrees most of the day. I went out a cycle this morning before it got too hot and then this afternoon we headed to Bucklers Hard. Very nice place and we went a river tour which was very enjoyable the museum was good and very interesting we also got a discount as we had visited Beaulieu last week. On our way back we called in to a pub near the site called The Rising Sun for dinner which was very nice at a reasonable price.

Yes Bakers2. He has B12 injections every two months now but at the beginning he also had to have them 3 times a week for 2 weeks.  His next one is due on Thursday. He says he can't feel any difference when he has them but I can tell a difference - he is less irritable and tired wink. I hope they work as well for your OH as they do for mine.

I have spent most of the day in the Cathedral.  The lady who usually takes over from me in the afternoon is away on holiday so I said I was more than happy to stay on as it was so wonderfully cool in there.laughing  We are off to meet up with friends on the Great Central Railway in Loughborough tomorrow - a long standing arrangement - wish us luck!!

Got back home from our 2 nights in Aberdeen.

Caravan now serviced and new brake shoes fitted, hope that stops the squeal.

Been very warm here this afternoon 26c pretty good for Scotland that, Aberdeen was to be even warmer.

While up there we visited 2 castles and there gardens, went up to Peterhead and Fraserburgh yesterday, it was lovely sitting on the beachfront, on the way back we stopped off at Pitmedden gardens.

Back home at lunchtime today van emptied, bite of lunch then out for some food shopping. Once home and shopping away we were once again back outside working. I cut and strimmed the back and side grass, OH back at his DIY smile

Wil have fit in more days away, we come back re energised laughing

Bakers2, my Mum has B12 injections every 6 mths, you can tell when she needs them and the difference after.

Milliehull and Tammygirl nice to note the positive comments for B12 , it will be interesting to see how OH responds.

Tammygirl did you sleep in your caravan whilst it was being serviced? Just curious/nosy?

I thought our schools broke up yesterday but it appears not, the 10 minute bell is telling! Let's hope they didnt forget to turn it off 😱. Been listening to the kids playing on the way to school - somewhere behind our house but hidden from our windows and gardens, we're fully enclosed with shrubs πŸ˜‰. Today I realised from the shouts they're playing cricket on the green - finally able to make out the shouts today 'hows that' stump him. Never heard them play cricket before is this part of the world cup legacy?

Very warm night. Had the all curtains and windows closed all day yesterday to keep the heat out. But still needed the fan on with all upstairs windows open, no breeze. Dry storm overnight, only know because of using the facilities, several gentle flashes, more like a security light coming on and off, and distant rumbles of thunder. Warm again 25 in the shade at 8am high cloud disappearing.

Going to do some deadheading before going to meet and friend at lunchtime.  Had a lady gardener round yesterday she really inspired me - I have felt somewhat overwhelmed. She will work an hour, or more in any combination to suit me. Very knowledgeable and said what a lovely garden we have! I know we do but it's been badly neglected this - cant think why? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I wish Tammygirl lived nearer and hired herself out...... I 'accosted' her in April outside what turns out to be her house on my walk back from the shop. We had arranged for her to visit soon after, however friends help tidy the garden with me and she was very understanding, I hope shell prove as big a help as the cleaner. I can just potter without the real worry. Much like it's been all my married life! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Enjoy your day folks stay safe and hydrated in the sun.

Edit milliehull sounds like it was a good day to cover an extra stint at the cathedral πŸ˜€. Did you get to see Shakespeare in the palace? Daughter in law had tickets for Saturday but I've not spoken to her since, or son for that matter! I suspect it was moved into the nearby church because of the weather?
