The non gluten type Tammy. Supermarkets do supply some of my needs but only the basics. I've tended to find a mixture of flours is better is most circumstances which includes such things as Sorghum or Tapioca or Oat Flour or Potato Flour or Polenta etc. Tescos etc. are just not interested in these as they probably couldn't shift enough of them. Plus I also have to have access to Xantham Gum or Physllium Husks. and Gluten Free Baking Powder. Do yourself a favour and don't get an allergy or intolerance to wheat.

When we lived in Germany many years ago, one of my friends suffered from celiac disease. I remember she used to get flour for making bread (and other things) from the medical centre on prescription.  The results, shall we say were not great. I would hope that nowadays its a bit better. My nephews youngest daughter is also gluten intolerant, I remember when she was a baby her being very poorly until the Dr's found out what was wrong. It has changed the way the whole family eat, they all seem to do well on their diet. I'm not a big bread or cake person but its one of those things, if you can't have something, you want it. frown

Hope you get what your are looking for.smile

It's been another difficult week in the Husky household , mum was doing well ,visited Wednesday and was sitting out chatting ,but the last two days she is like a changed person ,hallucinating and saying strange things ,were hopping it's just the drugs causing the problem

then on a better note ,I've accepted an offer on the shop , couldn't have come at a better time as it looks as I might need all the time there is to look after mum.

    Still ,onwards and upwards cool

Hope the offer for the shop continues on a smooth path Husky, we've been through a business sale for our retirement and I know how up and down it all goes.

When you wrote about your Mum I wondered if it's a urinary infection which can do this, my Mum had similar during one of her hospital stays, the staff were great in making it less scary for her. Anyway I hope the problem can be sorted soon.

Yesterday I was shopping for gluten free things too as my DIL is wheat intolerant. I forgot to look for some pasta as I bought the ordinary type for all of us so will have to make her something different. I bought some gluten free oat bread, hoping that's ok. She brings some things with her which is a great help otherwise I'm in a culinary tizz. wink

Hoping we get some more rain today as the promised rain has hardly dampened the ground, very warm still.

    Yippee,  it's the weekend smile

I have had a busy week at work catching up after a week away, so not had much time to do much else, so nothing really to post. Have looked in to keep up with what everyone has been up to though.smile

Great news on the offer for the shop Husky,  hope the sale goes smoothly.

Today Daffy the MG is off to the paint shop for its re spray, OH is hoping to take it to the classic car show at the GWSR at Toddington in September.  We had lots of rain yesterday, the garden looks much better, sun out today.

We have seen our first hedgehog in the street for years, a neighbour said she had seen it in her garden and this week we found Hedgehog  poo in our garden.

Have a great weekend whatever you are up to smile

Fingers crossed for you HD. I’m like brue, sounds very like a UI that your Mum has got, very scary first time round as hallucinations are symptoms. Word of advice, push medics to do all tests they can and don’t be afraid to ask about Sepsis, get them to rule this out ASAP. Dad had it, and it was sorted, but took weeks to get him back on track. Very best wishes to you.

OH is planning work on our MG now H, finally have room in garage, and it will be our second car. Be good to use it more regular now.

Best of luck with the sale HD. I must admit I had a much smoother ride when selling my 50% of the partnership although I had to relinquish a year to show the buyer the ropes and introduce him to my clients. Also best wishes for a full recovery for your mum. Roller coaster ride at the moment for you.

Managed to get half of what I wanted in town this morning. Fortunately the more important half. Whilst in the health food shop I got talking to a lovely older lady who was diagnosed with a complete intolerance to all grains not just certain ones. She had to change her diet to a Vegatarian one when she was 65. She said it took her ages to come to terms with it.

There's always someone worse off than yourself. Poor lady is also being targeted by bank account thieves and she is having small amounts withdrawn. Her bank are being sympathetic and understand her regular spending patterns so are reimbursing her but admit that they don't know how the scammers are doing it.  The things people talk about with complete strangers in shops.

Just finished loading the van and the car - ready to leave for High Breame CL at Flamborough, tomorrow. Looking forward to it since it's a year since we were last there - such is the popularity of the site!

Relishing the prospect of a week away with only just over 30 miles towing for the round trip - bit of a contrast to the 800 we did to Cornwall and back, last month!

Weather is looking great for next weekcool

Husky ,OHs mum  (gone now)used to have bouts of what your mum is having and it was always a urine infection, caused by lack of care by staff not changing her pads (if your mum is in the same situation )just a thought

Good luck this time with shop sale

Visit to Mum today as we are going away tomorrow. Fast asleep in the chair when we arrived laughing however her alarm bells for the tea trolley still work, as it came into the lounge her eyes flicked open laughing very quiet today and still a little short of breath, don't think that is going to change any time soon.

We are having a pottering day, van is ready to go away, just need to put a bit of food in, in the morning.

OH, pottering about in his shed, I think I will pop something in the slow cooker then go and clear up the mess I left in the back garden yesterday. Had to abandon it as the heavens opened, we've had enough now its someone else can have a turn.

Husky, good news about your shop, hope it all goes through for you. Agree with others could be a UTI.

richardandros, have a good trip away.

Arrived home safely just after 15.30, we managed to make a reasonably early start (08.45) this morning.  Traffic not too bad, only delay was the roadworks on the M74 just south of Glasgow.

Van now on drive, but have not started emptying it, that will take quite a while!  Need to bring in some food as we have nothing much in the house, and OH will want the washing in to make a start this evening. House still in one piece, houseplants still alive, and mail mountain opened and sorted.

Driving distance was about 270 miles and we stopped at Burton-in-Kendal for an early lunch, so I am quite tired now as we do not usually go that far in one hop......time for a quick snooze I think.

DD has invited us down tomorrow for a BBQ, we gave her our  big BBQ as we hardly used it, so we need to take her a spare gas bottle and a couple of our spare paving slabs to make a level base for it.  However, the forecast is not great, so she may be cooking inside in the end!

Their plan for a large paved area in the garden is on hold till next year, at my suggestion,  so this will be a temporary solution for this year.

Sorry to read about your Mum huskydog.  I hope you don’t mind me butting in but when my late Mum was in hospital after breaking her leg she also started being really strange and hallucinating.  She did suffer before her fall with a condition called Charles Bonnet syndrome (where she saw things that weren’t there) she learnt to understand her condition and mostly day to day she was ok, she lived alone and looked after herself well.  After her fall and being in hospital she was much, much worse, some days she seemed not too bad, other days we heard all about how the walls in the ward move at night and they are entertained by a brass band some evening etc, etc.  Like your Mum she was tested for all sorts of infections including UTI but all negative.  There is a condition called ‘hospital psycosis’, that can affect the elderly when taken out of familiar surroundings.  I’m not medically qualified in any shape or form but I wondered if this was affecting your Mum perhaps?  I do hope things improve for her, and you, soon.

    thanks again

I too hope that your mum improves HD, and glad to hear the news about your shop.

Hope that all that are away are having a good time, and decent weather. We've booked 6 sites, 4 new to us, for our next trip, just waiting to hear if we can get on the last one planned.

Glad to hear that you got home safely Kjell. What did you think of the site at Cardiff, and did you manage to visit Castle Coch?

We had a very heavy downpour early this morning, which will have done the plants good, and then it's been dry and warm for the rest of the day.

No, but we went to Tredegar House, there is always a next time.

The site was good, I have left a review.  When we arrived there were 2 empty pitches so we took the one nearest the entrance, but when we realised we would not be able to level side to side without jacking up one side to insert a third plank, we reluctantly discussed moving to the adjacent pitch.

At that point a huge tractor came round the corner and into the farm gate at speed, throwing up a great cloud of dust as it was so dry, OH rushed to shut the van door, and the decision to move before anyone else arrived was immediately taken!

Have started unloading the van, food, clothes and washing brought in, that will do meantime.  We hope to get another 3/4 weeks away in September/October so no real need to unload much more until after that.

Our Sunday started early with a woodland walk for the two visiting dogs.  We have a local woods /biker meeting point with a little cafe about 8 miles away so we bundled them into the car at 7am. It was great. No traffic on the roads and the woods to ourselves. The dogs are now sound asleep in their beds.......but I don't know how long for! 😐 The cocker spaniel just seems to regenerate into "full on mode" with only 10 mins rest.😕🐶🐶

Husky, sorry to read about your Mum, tough time for you. Hope things improve very soon.

We had a lovely walk through our local woods with the dog yesterday, and then a trip into town.

Planning a visit to NT Canons Ashby today,  for a wander round the gardens and the little church.

ADD46 our Border Collie can walk for miles, sleep for about 10 minutes and then he's ready for the off again, just a shame my recovery time isn't the same. laughing

Somebody on a CL we were staying at on our recent trip asked Mrs.WN whether I was always walking when at home.

    Her reply "I think I married a Spaniel not a man".innocent

Listen, just because I like chasing balls that people throw doesn't make me a Spaniel. Besides my recovery time is nowhere near theirs. We had a Field Spaniel who would fall fast asleep once their walking food treat disappeared and wake up 15 minutes later looking longingly at the lead. Amazing creatures.

Just to prove I'm human, I forewent a walk into town today to get some grout whitener. Decided to wash the windows. Boy, all that Fly poo on the sills. This afternoons job entails cleaning the insides of the windows, at which point I'll be able to see all of those bits that I've missed outside.

Know what you mean with Spaniels we had two Springers and always on the go.

Going very warm here at the present and even hotter by Wednesday but looks like there may be a storm on Friday, our friends ranf this morning and said they had a terrific storm today and very heavy rain for 20 minutes puddles everywhere and we are only 20 miles from them all we had was a few spots not good for the garden.

Enjoy your breaks folks we will be away again in September when it is a bit quieter and hopefully cooler staying with friends who bring their Springer Spaniel with them in the Dordogne near Beynac the site has lovely views of the chateau.

Try a young whippet for a bit of bounce! laughing Our family and dog arrived very late last night. OH was up at 5.30 am for a fishing match, I was out with grandson and whippet v early, there's nothing like a swing park at 7.30 am. They're out with other relatives just now and I've been asleep, we start again in an hour! Nice to read your posts. smile

Oh thank you - might just do that. Have a great stay.

Funnily enough we have just got back in having been down to the recreation ground at Burnham as we were tipped off about the Crouch Valley Festival, first one ever. Not bad, lots of local food and drink outlets  - I had some Thai the one in the high street, very nice it was too. Haven't actually been in the restaurant itself. Live band lots of folk enjoying themselves. Decent weather, no shade when the sun came through the clouds 😯. OH had had enough so came straight home.

Oh yes one forgets just how much energy dogs have. Our grand-dog is always up for more after a short rest, wish we were as fast at recovery 😂.

Nice to read your posts, enjoy whatever you're doing. Must go prepare some food for us both.

Edit - husky thinking of you all. My OH, mid 60's, had some terrible confusion during his weeks in hospital - they suspected delusions after anesthesia- never concluded though. I'd get phone calls late at night asking me to bring him home, they said he could go! He wandered and was caught by the entrance in the middle of the night once, luckily he was in hospital PJ's so security on the case 😱. And when I was going to take him to an outpatients appointment he was up and showering at 2am! Seems to have settled down now - I'm convinced the hospital environment isn't conducive to rest and recovery!
