A team of volunteer (paid by the mile) drivers help people round here if they need hospital transport and for some who need to go up to Bristol there is accommodation. I expect areas now have their own systems to help? Best wishes to all those needing any type of treatment.

We enjoyed a good walk round the gardens of Mapperton House this morning. They're very attractive and so is the house. Nice cafe  before you go in so handy just for a coffee etc. Not far from the Bingham Grange site if you're staying there and some local CLs. Beaminster is the nearest town, I heard someone calling it "Beeminster" but if you want to sound like a local we say "Bemster." smile

We are off to Wales with Mum soon. Cottage, plenty of space. Our first holiday without Dad was very tough, but we kept Mum busy. If ever you need any North based ideas on cottages etc.... that are good for limited mobility, and take pets, get in touch, we have found some really nice places down the years👍

Another beautiful day spent in my favourite place. We had a ridge walk today with views that help to sustain you on wet days. A Red Squirrel made an appearance halfway up the climb. The afternoon was spent buying Mrs WN 2 short sleeve tops she didn't know she needed from Mountain Warehouse plus a trip to Foulshaw Moss for updates about the Ospreys.

Better sleep last night so more energy today.

Ridge walks were always the highlight for me. We did the Fairfield Horseshoe (?) maybe 10 years ago. We came back down to Rydal Mount via the ridge. Awesome is the only word I can use to describe it.

As an aside, I’ve been touched by some of the stories regarding folks that are affected by ill-health and loss. I lost both of my parents to the dreaded cancer, something I have to be checked for annually.

Nice to hear from a fellow Masochist.laughing

Touch wood, we can still do some of the harder Ridge walks and climbs but do need a break between them. Tomorrow is moving day to Borrowdale site so Friday will be Red Pike to Hay Stacks walk. Not sure how long we can carry on doing these walks but whilst the spirit is willing we'll carry on.

Are you able to still do medium level walks in the Lakes?

Sorry to hear about your mum takethedogalong - she sounds as if she's from the same mould as my mum, although my mum is a couple of years younger than yours. She's had a really nasty foot/ankle which she can now wait bear and drive with but it's been 6 weeks. Went to get up from a Lloyd loom chair and somehow bent the whole foot backwards and under her 😲😲. My brother has done the 'extras' - it's good to share 😂 as I was otherwise occupied.

Husky wishing your OH a swift date for the op as well as recovery. EasyT good luck with your xray.

Days out whilst recovering are very welcome regardless and on this basis I took us off to Frinton on Sea. Glorious weather, OH managed to walk the length of the high street both ways, slowly. We then had a sandwich lunch and he laid the passenger seat down and dozed. It was too hot in the car for me - him too after a while 😉 so laid on the travel rug on the greens ward.  Then walked down to the prom, tide in, and along for a bit before coming back up and returning along the greensward and enjoying an ice cream. Back home and a cuppa in the garden until we lost the sun about 6.30pm then fish and chips yummy. Certainly a day to treasure as a bonus I didn't think would come earlier this year!

I even pulled into Homestead Caravans to look at motorhomes - out of curiosity you understand 😂😂

Really good to read others news and outings, carry on enjoying and posting.

We had a very nice meal at Carluccio's, here in CMK, today. At Christmas we were given a gift card for this restaurant chain so in light of what has happened at Jamie Oliver's restaurants we thought we had better use it as it could become worthless!!! I also have some Club Card vouchers that go out of date soon so might swap them for Bella Italia vouchers as we like that chain. We have already eaten out twice this week so I think we may have to give it a rest for a while.

Glad you enjoyed your meal David. We lost our Carluccio's a long time ago, it didn't last long and we never got to try it! Jamie's Italian closed a long time ago in town. I think we have so many eateries there is too much competition.

Sorry to her about your mum, tda, and glad that she seems to have got over it so quickly.

Great to hear that you and OH managed a good day out at the seaside, B2.You certainly are having better weather than us at the moment.

The same goes for you too, WN, weather wise that is. The forecast isn't too good for the north after Thursday, but I hope that you are able to get out on a hill or two during your stay at Buttermere.

Best of luck to all who have hospital appointments for themselves and their family members.

Thanks for the kind words regarding Mum, her generation are a breed apart it has to be said, full of fight and independent spirit. Checked with Sis this afternoon, she’s actually had a snooze, that’s a rarity.

Great to hear you have had a day out Bakers, hope it’s lifted your spirits no end.

I had to be around to assist with brake bleeding this afternoon, but decided to sort out a mountain of paperwork filing, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought, got through it fairly quickly. Brake problem diagnosed as well, split pipe. OH has already ordered replacements, got old parts off, new ready to go on as soon as they arrive. You can’t beat older cars for being easy to work on, and cheap, £40 covers the lot. He’s a very happy bunny at the moment, got the bike of his (current) dreams on order. Let’s just say it could easily fund air suspension on a MH and leave it at that!😱 Keeps him out of mischief.......

We've had 2 rather wet nights and today it's rained on and off. Yesterday we had a walk through Culbin Forest before going to Brodie Castle for the guided tour. and a walk round the grounds. Today it was just a 4 ml walk this morning from the site before lunch and another along the prom at Nairn in the afternoon.Hopefully tomorrow will be better and we might fit in a trip to a distillery.

After a short walk in the pouring rain which persisted all day yesterday, we managed a trip into the old part of Strasbourg today in bright sunshine. Very picturesque and we managed a few museums as well. On to the Black Forest tomorrow. If you don't hear from me for a few days, it's because my mouth will be stuffed with gateaux.

Nell we went to Brodie castle some years ago and Brodie of Brodie was one of the guides.  Had a really interesting conversation with him.

B2 good to hear your getting out and about.  All others that aren’t feeling to good, get well soon.

Really good weather here with 2OC temperature so spent the day in the pottering in the garden.

    Thanks for the reply.

We’ll be up in the ‘Lakes’ next month, for 5 days, staying at Troutbeck Head. I will be looking for a couple of walks, nothing to strenuous as I’m not as confident as I was. I did get a bit puffed-out walking up The Malverns recently. That said, it was the same when walking in The ‘Lakes’ until ‘second wind’ kicked in. In a way, it’s the descents that are the problem, which goes back to the descent from Fairfield, which did my knees in! We did ‘Haystacks’, which was quite easy, although one part that was described as a “pleasant scramble” in the guide book turned out to be anything but! That was before I understood the meaning of ‘scramble’ 😀 So, any suggestions for more gradual gradients?

My favorite site, You could try the path to Bowscale tarn from Bowscale then up to the the top from it (only semi steep bit) then over to Bannerdale Grags (all easy) and back down Bowscale via Musgrizedale.

Or Great Sca Fell from Longlands is an easier walk. These are all in the Wainwright's Northern fells book, the newer 2nd revised versions (called walkers editions) are very good indeed.

As Wainwright said the Northern fells are excellent for the aged hiker who can no longer force his jaded legs up Rossett Pike - I'm not saying you are one of course.

Another easier and gentle climb is Great Dodd from High Row, which is a just a few minutes drive from Troutbeck head site, and you could then go over to Clough head and back down to High Row via the old coach road, it's in the Eastern fells guidebook.

    Have a great time

post edit, Great Dodd here  Bowscale here

I think you can get 15% off with your club card. Only non offer items, which at mountain warehouse is everything of course so don't get your hopes up.

Hope you enjoyed Red Pike to haystacks, did that from Buttermere, excellent route.

Just bought a "sale" price waterproof jacket at MH and got the discount, always do. It's a very good offer, just show them your club card. smile

If you're in the Lakes and just want low level walks I think Derwentwater has a lot to offer, starting in Borrowdale or Keswick you can tackle sections and get the launches when needed. There are various diversions to higher sections and places to stop for food and drink. The walks from Wray Castle around Windermere to Claife are good too. We've also walked from the Bowness ferry and taken the route towards Near Sawrey where the NT have opened up a path that goes on to Hawkshead. There is a good lakeside car park down by Braithwaite Fold to do these Bowness/Claife walks and a minibus service between Hawkshead and Claife too. The NT has a café at Claife.

Too numerous to list, the lakes are good for walking at all levels. smile

One of our favourite Lakeland walks and not too strenuous is High Cup Nick.  A great Glacial valley which forms part of the Pennine Way.

Thanks all for the suggestions 👍 I failed to mention that I have a foot condition, ‘Plantar Fasciitis’. It does though seem to be subsiding. I had to lay off golf for the best part of last year, but played yesterday with only a little soreness/pain. A round of golf is around 3 miles + diversions (😉) , but I do carry my clubs. Hopefully the site WiFi is ok so that I’ll be able to refer back to the suggestions. I’ll also pick up one or two guide books. I also have a couple of OS maps...somewhere, so I’ll be able to test my map-reading skills, if they cover the right area.

    Thanks again.

Don't assume that's typical of C&CC sites, though, JVB. We visited two on our recent trip away and at both the welcome couldn't  have been friendlier.  And as we were ahead of schedule getting to one of them I phoned to ask if they'd rather us wait till 1pm and was told to come on in anyway, arriving at about 12:30. smile
