Good to hear that you're OH is slowly improving B2.

Happy Birthday, tda. Hope that you have had a great day.

Sorry to hear that to some of you it looks as if you're going to have an expensive bill or two.

After a lousy wet and windy day yesterday, today was a good bit better, although we still have the winds. We went walking through Holkham Meals down unto the beach, back through the sand dunes where we spotted a couple of Short Eared Owls and then a bit more of bird spotting from the hides.

Bakers 2. So pleased to hear that your OH is still improving. How lovely that you have had your grand-dog to keep you company for a few days.

Happy birthday TDA. Hope you have had a wonderful day.

Helen you sound as though you had a lovely weekend away.

Sorry to hear that some have been hit by storm Freya. I am not looking forward to seeing our garden when we get home.

Yes, parts are the big problem, we have not needed any repairs in the 31 years, but fully expect that parts are no longer available these days.

Fortunately, if our main boiler failed, we have the "granny flat" we can use as it has a separate, similar but smaller boiler, so lounge, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom available to use, though I think we would have a problem with the kitchen as we are using it for storage at present!

It was this system that I recently had to replace one pump on.  There are 2 pumps in each system, separate from the boilers, so a fairly easy repair.

We have several electric fan heaters in the house for emergency use, immersion heaters in both HW systems, and as a last resort, both our children are within a reasonably short distance and have plenty of spare beds!

Thanks one and all! Had a very nice day, lots of great presents, a meal cooked for me, lovely family popping in to say happy birthday. We were all set to head off in MH tomorrow, but the forecast is just so awful, we are just chilling out at home instead. I have an annual pass to visit Yorkshire Wildlife Park now, so an afternoon there is calling if we get a dry day.

Some of you might recall I had idea to sort out a new lamp, using an antique fire branch that we bought long ago. Well my rather handy OH bought all the stuff required, set to without me knowing, and this was one of my presents. It’s absolutely stunning, and I will try and post a photo tomorrow.🥳😁🥳

We have an old Glow worm boiler and apart from two time  clocks nothing else has gone wrong and never had anything inside the boiler replaced as there are few mechanical/electrical parts.  Granted our boiler is less efficient (by about 10%) than modern boilers but the breakdown incidence compared with modern boilers is negligible.  So I think we will continue as we are.  Our latest timer is digital and compared with the old analogue what a faff to set up.

Nice to hear from you R2B. What a glorious photo.

Nellie, sorry to hear that you are having such miserable weather for your visit to Norfolk. It is such a lovely part of the country.

Yes, the controller our daughter has in her new house is one of those programmable thermostats and the only person who so far has figured out how to use it is OH. It is complicated to set up, works wirelessly, but keeps losing touch with the boiler as the house is sprawling and has some very thick and solid internal walls.

The idea is that you take it to the room you are using most, so that then gets the temperature and times you have set, but it seems everywhere else has to take its chances, which just seems daft.

As the living room is about as far from the boiler as it could be, the thing just cannot keep in touch with the boiler, so the boiler kept switching off.

To get round these problems, OH has put the thing half way down the hallway, set it to a temperature above what the system can achieve, and individual rooms are now able to be at the desired temperature by using the TRVs on the radiators.  The time part of it is then used like a normal time clock by setting a low temperature between say 23.00 and 06.00, which is effectively setting it to be off.

The previous owners could have saved money by just getting a simple time clock!

We used to waste water with our old boiler, the delivery of hot water is now much quicker.

Pancake Day....must make a few of those today, I'm a lemon and sugar fan. laughing

I can't complain, millie, it's only been 1 day so far. Today was fine if a bit windy, although it's not such a good forecast for tomorrow, when we move along to Cromer.

We had a pleasant walk from Stiffkey to Morston along the coastal path. Saw lots of geese feeding on the salt marsh. We didn't realize that it's a NT car park at Morston or we would have parked there and walked to Blakeney and perhaps out to the Point.

Well day 40 of hospital visiting dawns 😂😂.

Lovely couple days with son and extra with grand-dog, house seems extra empty this morning!

More small improvements, he had a shower Monday first in 3 weeks! He looks more human now and I can see the colour of his hair 😂😂, bit more silver than before. He's now allowed an almost unrestricted diet but tempting him isn't easy, still having overnight nasal feeds as weight still going down. His tongue is raw in places from thrush which they assure me will clear up now he's eating a little. He constantly feels cold which worries me. His walking is coming on about 150 yards with very little support. But this is only once a day otherwise it's the loo and back. I think he needs mental stimulation too, I do my best! Hes still sleeping lots but seems more alert when he us awake. I wonder if the sleep is an escape from boredom? He refuses to have TV - as he thinks it expensive, which it is! Free in prison apparently 😂😂. Hes not quite up to his tablet or iPod yet.

They've started the paperwork to get him back to Broomfield  I hope the neurology ward, but if I can find someone to talk to today I'm going to ask if he can go to the stroke ward in Basildon until the move, where they will be geared to his needs now his heart is stable.

I love reading your news although I'm not replying carry on enjoying yourselves and posting. It's my bit of light relief 😂😂😂

Gosh what a long haul for you both Bakers2. I too would think that sleeping is an escape from boredom for your OH. I can remember having to have a spell in the maternity hospital before one of our children were born and slept most of the time. Hopefully he will be moved to a more appropriate ward soon where he can get more mental stimulation. You are in my thoughts a lot. Best wishes x

R2B. I think it will be just a few lengths of the pool rather than a jog round the island 😂.

ADD46. We will soon be back joining you all in our fleeces and jumpers and our summer clothes will be in the back of the wardrobe again. 😢

B2, good to hear from you. I wonder if you can borrow a wheelchair and take your OH for a short walk around the hospital, would that benefit him do you think? If he is strong enough to sit in the chair he might enjoy leaving his bed for awhile? Just an idea, having done that with a long stay family member in the past.

B2 since my "visit" to have my surprise stents inserted, i have been on anti clotting  medication and have noticed that i feel cold most of the time especially hands and feet,so it maybe that ,as i am sure your OH is on something similar ,but glad he is improving day on day,

We are off to our second home today for a week to meet up with friends again,we are travelling  very light this time,to save to much exertion, were going to Sandringham but easier trip from and to  FM

Grand daughter is bridesmaid on Sat at Great Dunham and our friends daughter is doing the charity run in  Nene Park on Sunday

More positive news B2, slow but steady progress.

Enjoy Sandringham JVB, hope the weather improves.

Had a letter from the NHS we can now get our eye tests done at home. Don’t think I will use that service, I would rather the money spent on front line services (not political).

SIL and daughter installed a temporary kitchen into part of the lounge, laid a new floor in what will be the kitchen.  Daughter loaded nearly 2 tons of bricks into a skip yesterday when I ask why she didn’t call for help her answer she didn’t want to bother us. Grandtwins have been really good considering the turmoil of living in the house with major building works in progress.

Son and DIL coming to visit this weekend.

Brue that crossed my mind as I walked around town this morning. Great minds think alike 😉. Just got to pick the time he's awake, no physio's or other assessors!

Bought some M&S mini hot cross buns whilst I was out hope they might tempt his taste buds. Just decanted into a well known plastic container to keep them fresh. I might be tempted too 😂

Had my new trial lenses checked this morning, only been 3 weeks and prescription has to be changed again in the cataract eye. Good job I'm not having to replace glasses lenses. That and hospital parking, although now 'in profit' 😉 and fuel I'd be bankrupt 😯😯.

Blowing nicely here so I can get the bedding in from the line, its dry and smells fresh.

    Enjoy your day folks.
