Thanks for that WN, we changed our minds this morning and decided to come straight to Tournus. Might go to Bourg after here though as it sounds as if it might suit us. Where did you stay as I only found 1 small site in Bourg.
Good drive down today hot and sunny until 17.00 when we got some rain, we are on a h/s so not worried if it does turn to a thunderstorm as forecast.
Had a message from courier (DPD) that our parcel should be here on Thursday
we still have about a third left in our batteries so enough to go and get some shopping and a nice ride along the river.
MH, so sorry to hear about your grand daughter, worrying time for you, hope all goes well for her.

Tammy. We've stayed at 2 sites. The first one was at St.Paul de Varax. It was a while ago and was typical French site. The other may not exist as it did. It's next to the Bird Park in the south of the lakes at Villars-Les-Dombes. They were changing it the year after we visited about 5 years ago so can't comment about it's current state. It was a very good municipal.

Millie, Best Wishes from me too, hope all goes well.
Had to change a gas bottle this week at a local farm shop close to home, they store a few caravans too, and have had 2 stolen in the past couple if weeks. The thieves apparently cut through a fence and took one out through the school playground next door.
Pleased that all trips are going well and everyone is having a good time,. Weather has been lovely and have been sitting out in the garden after work.

Millie, all the best from us.
We have made the move from the Black Forest to Bavaria. Managed to avoid all the traffic hold ups so pretty good journey. Rejected the first campsite we considered staying at but now at a super campsite with fantastic views just outside the town of Krum.

We moved to a delightful little campsite just a couple of kilometres from Gibraltar. It appears to be run as a work environment for those with special needs. The site is immaculate.
Cycled into Gibraltar and took the cable car up to the top of the Rock. Great views from the top but the area needs some signage and TLC and is not a good advert for the UK.
Walking along the high street later was just like walking through any English town 10 -15 years ago - all the big names stores but not a charity shop in sight
Even saw a policeman on foot

Some years back I had what was probably the most chilled out fortnight of my life there. Is the departure lounge still that taverna across the road?

Thanks Robsail. Yes the waiting for results is very stressful.

Tammy - You may not be as interested in the local wildlife as I am but if you do cycle around the area keep an eye out for Black Necked Grebes on the lakes (exactly as title describes them). They often have their chicks sitting on their backs hitching a free ride. Rather cute.
Anyone else who is interested and in the area should check out the lake opposite the bird park. I have always seen Little Bitterns there.
No more wildlife reports and apologies for going off thread.

Thanks again WN, we are going to Bourg tomorrow. Plan is to park the mh in town to have a look around, then go on to one of the sites for a few days. Good news is we got delivery of the battery charge for the bikes this morning (a day early) well happy as batteries now charged up and ready for using. Weather set to be hot over the next 3-4 days. Thanks for the info on the wildlife, we do like taking an interest but not very knowledgeable.
Hope your having a good trip.

Mornings have been great, the scenery beautiful, then around 3pm almost every day the clouds gather over the mountains and we have a thunderstorm. Local young man killed on Monday on the mountains by lightning strike and a young lady struck and injured, so we try to be down (if up) quite early.

Same both in the Black Forest and now here in Bavaria, donner und bliztzen some of the wet stuff but only for half hour or so.⚡️🌧☀️
Did chores this morning then went to Murnau Moos this afternoon, didn’t see any of the rarities but watched and photographed (after a fashion) a cuckoo. Saw signs that Beavers were around and thought we heard one?
This is a very peaceful site except when you walk out of your van at this time of night when the frogs/toads are making a racket, without exaggeration it must be at least 80 decibels 🐸🐸

That is an area of France that we love Tammygirl. I can really recommend that you visit the Citadel in Blaye. It is wonderful, especially if you go on a guided tour. There is also lovely restaurant. There is a great little campsite in the middle of the citadel.

Great to read where you all are. Lookinging forward to our big trip this year, coming soon, although 'only' the UK for us this year. We're starting in Cornwall for 2 weeks, followed by a week just outside Newton Abbott in Devon. Then a week at Wareham in Dorset, followed by a week at Littlehampton CAMC site and a week at Black Horse Farm in Kent...... so we'll be working our way along the South coast. When we get to Kent, we'll be able to sit and look across to France and think..... perhaps next year! 😀😀

Sounds like a lovely trip David,
Half day at work today, so have been collecting a few bits together to put in the van, as we are off to the Peak District tomorrow. For the first time in a while its raining
mind you the garden has perked up.
Good to read all European trips are going well and a good time is being had.

How does it go "the best laid plans etc"left site with plenty (we thought)of time to get to Pickering then we hit the Scarborough rush hour, the traffic added 30mins to the journey, (and locals say that is quite normal
)so then knew we would miss train, diverted to drive to Whitby weather not good thick mist over the moors,Whitby has a park and ride £1.50 for bus pass holders,,well worth it to save hunting for parking, walked round the town had some lovely cod and chips in quayside dog friendly pub,the back to car and off to Brid via a stop at Pickering ,for a quick smell of Steam, plus some more of Thomases curd tarts with a cupper Sat in the very hot sun (first of day)then back to Brid avoiding Scarborough

Well, it's happened! After being told my knee op would be within 12 weeks of the pre-op assessment (in early January) and clearing my diary of all important appointments for those 12 weeks and another 6 weeks for recovery, I've had my date for the knee replacement at completely the wrong time - well outside those dates, at the second worst time of the year, when I have concerts booked, which I now can't cancel (and holidays too - with deposits paid etc). Ive just sent them an email rejecting the date and asking for a date after my holidays. I did ring them at the end of the 12 weeks, but the pen pushers didn't want to know. I've sent them an email (and copied in my GP) this morning - I'm just too cross to speak to some unsympathetic person on the phone! I wonder what response I will get?

It is normal JVB, A64 in particular is often very bad, but despite years of campaigning for better transport infrastructure in North, no one listens. Especially the current incumbant, Failing Grayling, he not only doesn't listen, but has been caught out several times telling porkies!
Hope you enjoying your time up here, we're not fans of Bridlington itself, although outlying villages such as Sewerby, Fraisthorpe, Bampton are very nice. Can highly recommend Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens for a visit, house is good on a wet day, nice eatery.
