Oh I'm so jealous. Our local site and nothing sorted anywhere for us yet this year.

Prepare for the cold, like milliehull I read about white Easter this morning, a nd hope for some warmth. On the plus side the Site is below the sea wall which may lessen the rocking from the wind 😂😂.

We've had a rain shower this morning, not forecast 😲. Wind getting up but I have washing to dry so hoping it will speed things up. Thermometer showing warmer but wind making it feel colder than yesterday. A few pieces of snow hanging around (my dad would have said waiting for some more) in the more sheltered parts of the garden.

Stay safe and warm folks. Roll on summer and please can it be long and hot? Life is so much easier when it's warm and dry 😉

I suppose if we want to be pedantic, the Spring Equinox has not passed us yet or even reached us, well not until 4:15pm today.

Well that's what Google tells me, so even that could be wrong.

Just got back from diabetic clinic. Milk has gone up in price by one penny for six pints! On the way back, we bought a six pint carton from Tesco for £1.50. It used to be £1.49. That should interest Goldie!

Thanks OP & B2 for reminding me, hope we'll get over that way next time. laughing

As for the weather. We do indeed have snow forecast down our way over Easter but the days will be longer to enjoy it....wink

Ah, but how much do Tesco pay their suppliers? I doubt it has gone up this year. In fact several milk buyers have dripped their prices by as much as 1.5 ppl.

I hear milk home deliveries have gone up due to the choice of glass bottles.

We pay more for our home delivered milk and I switched back to glass a couple of years ago, then glass was under threat, now it's back in fashion.

Prices of most groceries have increased,if not by an actual price rise that consumers see but by the underhand way of reducing the size of the product but keeping the price the sameundecided

Milk, bread and groceries are all underpriced, consumers need to pay a realistic price for goods with more of the cost going to the supplier.

People are greedy and will search out for the cheapest, having no regard to the profit going to the wrong people.

When i was a nipper growing up? in surrey i can remember the milkman coming round and using a 1 pint jug to fill what ever Mum had ,from a churnsurprised

And in the "real" winters we used to have every one helping to push his little van in the snow on his round

The same with the Baker who came door to door with his basket of breads and cakes out of his little van

Well nowadays our milkman has quite a noisy lorry and wakes the light sleepers up around  2am. Then he sprints up our steep driveway using a head torch. laughing

The Arla farmer cooperative is not just British farmers - but also includes European. But though our farmers do not get an the whole extra 25p they do get some.

    From Asda website-

    Brand Marketing
Farmer Owned = 100% Fairly Owned. We, Arla Farmers, don't just milk cows - we own the company. So, when you buy any Arla product, you are supporting 2700 British farmers as well as all other Arla Farmers in our cooperative. Good for us, farmers. Good for everyone.

    Further Description
Extra 25p Per Bottle Back to the Farmers The Extra 25P per bottle goes back to Arla foods which is 100% farmer-owned. This extra premium is then distributed among all the farmers equally. Learn more about our cooperative on www.arlafoods.co.uk/farmer-owned

    Google "Free range milk".

Some brands such as http://www.freerangedairy.org/ talk about 6 months grazing outside, others such as "Enjoy Milk" talk about grass based diets and some grazing outside. https://www.farmersguide.co.uk/2017/01/black-top-the-new-free-range-milk/

In the end it's down to personal choice.

For reference we are Organic and our milk goes to << Omsco >>. Who supply, amongst others - Yeo Valley

Our cows are currently housed inside, but will graze outside from some time in April until September - ish. Weather dependant of course. It's often the state of the ground that dictates when they come in.

Second sunny day here, but still very cold.  We have both come down with sore throats and coughs, so have advised DD not to visit.

We have a lunch date with friends in town tomorrow, just wondering if we should cancel.

Otherwise, need to start getting the van ready for our next trip

We use "Milk&More" which is now part of the Muller group, I buy Yeo Valley produce but Muller took over from DairyCrest who do the local milk deliveries round here.

I didn't know about the black top till perusing the milk posts this morning. Thanks Goldie. smile

We try and stick to purchasing meat and veggy from local suppliers.  When away in the van we try to buy local to where we are.  Unfortunately no bananas grown in Norfolk at the moment🍌🍌

It seems that Booths and Waitrose pay the most for their milk, closely followed by M&S. We have started to buy the extra filtered milk from Waitrose, which is more expensive, but has longer use by dates so could be handy when we are away.

Thanks for providing that information Goldie, very useful. We try to get organic milk and dairy products where we can.

The treatment and farming of some dairy cattle is as big a scandal as battery hens in some instances, but is less well publicised. We watched a film from the 1960's about farming the other day, bit of a documentary. Huge difference in how well the cattle looked. You see some herds that look like walking hat racks out in fields sometimes. Cheap milk is a scandal. It isn't good for the cows, it isn't good for the farmers.

My "milkman" brings me a jug of raw, organic milk every morning. No food miles (about 75 yards).

    Cost? Priceless.

Maybe it helps that I sleep with him!

We pay 81p per pint bottle delivered of the orange top (1.43L) OH would like the Channel Island milk but I can't drink it with too much fat. The organic is 95p per pint. The only time we've not had the delivery was in the recent bad weather due to tankers not getting through, but neighbours found the local shops and supermarkets had run out before we did.

Good thinking Millie.  Just had a letter from the hospital that I have to have my MIR scan on the morning we depart. Wonder if the hospital will mind if we park the van in the car parklaughing

This coming Saturday got a CT scan.  We keep hearing about problems in the NHS but I'm getting a wonderful servicesmile

Unfortunately not everyone can afford to. Those that can by all means it up to you what you spend your money on but for many folk out there, they don't have a choice, so while farmers markets are supported by the comfortable off, the big supermarkets cater to the masses.

Where we live there are no fruit and veg shops, no fishmonger even. No weekly market so all our supplies have to be bought from the big supermarkets. Butchers we still have but prices are double.

When abroad we have often walked around the local markets and looked at produce but I have to admit its rare that I buy, while some folk say it vfm that has not been my experience.

The  Wardens  at  Thetford  Forest  Club  Site  only  stocked  the  "Arla  Cravendale  extra filtered  milk"  when  I  was there  last  year,  David  and  the  little  terrors  got  me  hooked  on  it !

Now  I'm  regularly  seen/heard  round  the  Milk  area  of  any  s/market  I'm  shopping  in  and  growling  if  I  cannot  find  the  size  containers  I  Demand  wink.  I  cannot  taste  the  difference  betwixt  that  and  any  other  green  top,  so  my  choices  are  based  purely  on  the  room  I  have  available in  my  fridges  &  the  containers  needed  to  fill  them.  innocent.  And  the  longevity  of  this  milk even  when  opened { normally  seven ( 7 ) days  } ensures  I  don't have  to  go  out  every  other  day  in  the  cold,  the  snow,  the  wind  or  any  other  nasty  bit  of  weather  !!

And why do you not have "local" independent shops except the butchers ? would it be that the Big four have driven them out of biusness by selling cheaper by having the financial   "clout"to say what they are going to pay their suppliers ,rather than what  the suppliers need to be payedundecided
