Washing up? Doesn't your dishwasher do that, Goldie?

Sounds good, trellis!

Unfortunately, I haven't seen or read those parts of the forum and didn't even know they existed! However, changing to EV is something I have been up to which is why I posted here about it.

We might have to start using gas for heating and cooking when the EV is on charge. We have two full cylinders of gas that are already paid for so it would cost us nothing to use them! Also, once the fridge/ freezer is fixed, that will run on gas too. Then switch over to electric when the charging is completed.

May make mince pies, may not. Rabbit goes back to daughter and family tomorrow, lodging here as they went away for weekend. Supermarket delivery wednesday and op on kidney stone friday. I think that just about sums my week up. I might have a sweepstake on whether the op really will go ahead just before christmas!!!

The big fridges, like we (and MM) have, can get through a six kilo bottle in about 12 days in summer, so not too bad compared to the smaller fridges.
The really expensive in gas bit is running the heating and hot water, particularly if using your own facilities a lot. The Alde can get through a lot of gas in cold weather.

What about winter for the fridge?
Our plan is to switch the heating off at night whilst the Smart car is on charge and then switch it back on to the electric once we have finished charging. So it will just be fridge on gas at night then back on to electric after charging is completed.
We could switch the hot water off at night and put it back on electric in the morning. It takes 6 hours for a full charge to the Smart car so everything electric off from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. then back on to electric again. We could save some gas doing it that way.
At night, whilst we're asleep with the heating off, the ambient temperature in the winter will be very cold so this could reduce the gas consumption for the fridge, couldn't it?

Not doing much today other than keeping warm. At least the outside temperature seems to have gone up a bit. Still lots of ice on the pavements and in some of the car parks so even going out shopping can be dangerous.
Our driveway is clear, but out back on the deck it is solid ice still.
Yesterday OH went shopping while I was out delivering Christmas cards from our church, I only fell over once. . Refused to let OH help as she has more than enough broken bones in the last 10 years!
Then I went to the Guide Hall to hand away the last of the old tables and chairs. Between Gumtree and Freecycle we have disposed of 91 chairs and 13 tables.
We are having Christmas lunch at our son's house, so not a lot of shopping for us to do later in the week.

Yes. I often wake up in the night or early hours of the morning and put the kettle on for some tea. So I'll have to use gas for that but again back on the electric when charging is complete. We're going to have to organise ourselves for a life of juggling between gas and electricity! It will be a challenge but hopefully a financially worthwhile challenge!

I was just giving ET some info, we do not usually winter caravan so no idea what it uses then. But we do have some experience of being 1000 metres up in the Black Forest in below zero temperatures, with no heating overnight......it was cold in the van!
Have you checked the amps of your socket breaker in your van? It will be marked on it and probably stated in the handbook too. That will limit how much power you can use when charging.

I don't know about that but I think I'll need 3 kw. However, it has been said on here that others with EVs have plugged in to the caravan socket to do this. So it must be possible.

The fridge might use less gas because of the ambient temperature in winter being very low at night. We might have to settle for increased gas cost in the summer though. However, the EV Smart car will use less power in the summer because of not having to use headlights during the light evenings, so may not need to be plugged in for so long to top up.

Yes, I might not have enough power to run the aircon at night on work days. However, on days off the Smart car will not need topping up so at least the aircon can be used then.

Yes I'd be interested to know that too. If so, I could turn the charging down to 2 kw or even 1 kw and do a 12 hour charge that will enable us to use electric for other things.

But where? Under which heading? There's a thread about e-bikes but I can't find any thread about electric cars or about the electric Smart car.

60 to 70 mile radius with lights and wipers. Then demister (driver wearing thermals) plus lower performance from batteries in cold weather ..... 45 to 50?
I note that the quickest charge time given on Smart webpage is 3.5 hours from 20% to 100%. So after 30 mile commute say 2 hours to top up and after 25 miles on deliveries a 'quick' 1hour boost to get home. Sounds great idea.

I have a fleece to wear as part of my uniform. If I have the heating on in the car, it gets too hot, so I can do without heating but I will need the demister. A range extender would be useful but do they do them for Smart cars?

We went last year. Brilliant isn't it?
Walked to Tesco and surprised at the amount of snow still hanging around, not all from snowmen or where pushed to one side. Tesco car park has 2-3 foot of snow on a parking space in two places that we saw. Surprised too that the carpark wasn't gridlocked.
The AA fuel assist where there siphoning out a vehicle . I thought that it was almost impossible to do that these days? Still there's always one 😉. And yes Malcolm this won't happen with your EV. See other threads 😉
KjellNN hope youre ok after your fall? Our pavements were lethal earlier in the week and salted roads not much better! Walked through the park on the way to tesco still frozen ground in places around noon.
Just started to rain here, really chilly too. Cosy indoors. Lunch finished and cake making almost about to commence.
