@Fozzie I think you are right about it being a Rover but I can't classify the model. As an aside many years ago we went to the Norfolk Broads and had a taxi from Wroxham Station to the boatyard and that was a Rover similar to the one in the picture.I seem to recall how comfortable it was in the back.

Happy Birthday @DSB - excellent place to spend it! How long are you here for? We could pop up the coast to meet up anytime this week if you'd like to - since we've had to cancel our trip to Lincoln on Thursday. More of that in a second!

Had an eventful 24 hours!!!!! Was out in the park with Meg, yesterday morning - when - as we dog owners have to, I had to bend down to pick up her poo. Because of my back and hips, the only way I can achieve that is to lean on my walking stick - often at an angle to get closer to the ground and even that's a struggle. I was using one of my sticks I made - which all have metal ferrules - unlike the one I have for pavements which has a rubber one. I didn't realise just how hard and dry the ground was - until the stick slipped away completely. By this time I was completely off balance and crashed to the floor spectacularly. Trouble was, I couldn't get up!! According to the lovely lady who came to my aid, Meg came to her to attract her attention and that's why she came over to help. What I knew - and she didn't - was that Meg probably ran to her to check her out for biscuits - as she does with anyone she sees who is new to the park! I didn't say anything when she continued to praise Meg for being such a clever dog.

Anyway, somehow, this lovely lady (much younger than me) managed to get me back on my feel when I suddenly became aware of horrendous pain in my side. I suspected I had probably cracked a rib.

This morning, I decided to go to the UTC in Beverley to get my chest X-rayed, arriving at 0700 - only to be told they don't do chests and I would have to go to Hull Royal Infirmary - one of the two lowest performing A&E Depts in the country and a pain to get to. Fortunately - I only had to wait just over two hours to be seen by a Doctor who told me the X-Ray could have been done at Beverley and that the nurse I had seen had basically told me a load of rubbish. He checked me out and couldn't find any evidence of a fracture and said that it was pointless sending me for an X-Ray because even if I had broken a rib, they wouldn't do anything about it. I apologised to him for wasting his time and he apologised to me for everyone wasting my time😀

Decided to cancel our trip to Lincoln on Thursday since there is no way I could have set the van up in my present condition. Oh, the joys of having a dog😉 - but I wouldn't be without her.

@richardandros sorry to hear about your fall. Falls are quite common in people who have had a strokes. Part of the physio was even about getting uo from a fall. I have had a few tumbles since I got back from rehab. Not sure I can offer any advice as it often depends where and how you fall. I am still using a three pronged walking stick which does help espcially on uneven surfaces, I have tried going back to a normal walking stick but I am not confident that it would save me in some circumstances, mind you nor would the three pronged stick! hope you are not too sore.

@richardandros sorry to hear about your fall, bad enough at home, much more difficult when out. And your wasted time at the first hospital, things like that are so annoying. I hope that you feel much better soon. My old Dad in his 90s was often tumbling in his house, which really worried me, not quite so much when he reminded me that he was a judo black belt, and used to also teach judo, so he knew how to fall better than most.
I’ve been staining the decking again today, 3/4 of it done now, it’s looking so much better. Down on my knees doing it with a paintbrush using a garden kneeler, but I’m finding it very difficult to get up again lately when kneeling to do jobs, I also find I just don’t have the stamina and keep having to stop for rests. It’s this getting old thing I suppose.
OH and I had our Covid jabs last week, we both had very painful arms afterwards and then a day with flu like symptoms when we were both very under the weather, I have to say I’m not feeling too bright again today. Never had this problem before, has anyone else suffered with the spring jab? We are considering only having the one autumn jab in future, what do others think about 2 jabs a year?

OH ordered a new lawnmower from Amazon, it arrived, looked fine but no handle in the box! They were supposed to pick it up today, now 4.50 and no sign of them, not happy about it. It’s too heavy for us to take to the local collection point. Seems we might have to stop in tomorrow now as well.

Getting to 74 last year might have been a clue David.😁. Lovely place to spend a birthday. If our original plans had been kept we would have been on the Brid site this week. Lucky escape for everyone.🤣

Sorry to hear of your tumble @richardandros. You might have to seek out one of the shops for the mobility challenged and see if they have any solutions.

We love Anglesey Abbey @Wherenext and try to go about twice a year if we can, although we have to rely on the family these days as it is too far for us to drive nowadays. The last time went was in February with our local son and DIL and the snowdrops were out then. We like the silver birches and have had several 'family photos' taken with them in the background. We love the house as well.

OH has seen the spinal consultant today to get the results of the scan he had on his back a few weeks ago. Apparently he has spinal spondylosis sometimes called spinal osteoarthritis. There is no cure for it but he has referred OH to the pain clinic in the hope that they can help. We have since been for our covid boosters and had the RSV jab as well. It has been one of those days!

Happy birthday @DSB Lovely place to celebrate.

So sorry to hear about your fall @richardandros and hope you recover soon. Such a shame you had to cancel your forthcoming trip.

Waking up this morning and seeing the weather I didn't have great hopes for our planned day. However it turned out well despite the cold 30mph wind and the wet stuff first thing.

We went to RSPB Lakenheath and thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll worth the effort to get there. Everyone we meet keeps telling us that they need rain. Everyone in our party (2) keeps saying they don't, well not just yet.😁

Spent quite a long time there. Feel like I've been sand blasted

@DEBSC we had our Spring Covid jabs 10 days ago and I’m sorry to say we have both felt pretty rough for the past week, getting back to normal now fortunately. We did wonder if we picked up some sort of virus but then remembered we’d had the jab and put it down to that but in all honesty who knows! It could have been either. Like you I’m not sure about the 2 jabs a year either and after the past week it’s put me off even more.

@DSB wishing you a very happy birthday glad you enjoyed a good day in Bridlington. Welcome to the 75 club!

@richardandros sorry to hear about your fall and what a shame you had to to cancel your trip, I’m sure you were looking forward to it.

@Goldie146 good to hear you have been signed off from the nurses, at least it’s another step in the right direction. Onwards and upwards as the saying goes.

@richardandros sorry to read of your fall. Dogs are great and I'm delighted Meg looked after you. Do take care.. I do think a visit to facility offering aids to assist mobility is called for. First on the list, not from one of those shops 😉, is a long handled poopa scooper. But I've no idea if they're effective. I saw one recently - not sure where! But I only did B&M & The Range recently. Hopefully you'll get a break soon and a meet up with @DSB

Doing this piecemeal as ive got to fit in lots of other things. I'm about to make a moving fabric strip curtain for the hedgehog house. Our food offering is being eaten, but it seems to be very 'clean' hedgehogs are notoriously 'mucky'. And I've read rats dislike anything that moves and a suggestion that chains, don't have any, deter rats but don't effect the hogs. So I'll use what's to hand.

We brought a cordless lawnmower last week. We're both very pleased with the investment.

@DEBSC - I haven't had a Spring jab but MiL has and had no effects whatsoever. Mind you I think the Plague would find it difficult.

OH does seem to suffer more than either myself or MiL when it comes to jabs.

We are having problems with wifi signal so trying to keep this short!

Sorry to hear of your fall @richardandros and that you have had to cancel your next trip. You have not had the best of luck in getting away recently. Hope you are not suffering too much, just take care.

Happy birthday @DSB enjoy you birthday treat. Grand photos!

Lovely photo of you with your OH and son @milliehull I hope the medication & the help fron the pain clinic easy your OH's spondylitis.

Very pleased to read that the infection had healed @Goldie146 Steady does it now with the walking you will get there in the end with the help of your family I am sure.

@heddlo we had our Covid jabs the day they were released and apart from a couple of days with aching arms we had no other ill effects thankfully and will take all that they offer in the future.

Another washing day for us, and although it was cool and grey they dried outside. Just walked from the site today as there are plenty of different walks we can do from here without travelling very far.

We have had all the Covid vaccinations offered and only once did I have a bad reaction, think it was maybe to my second one. I felt chilled and had to take to bed the following day. Usually we both just have a sore arm for a day or two.

OH had her weekly exercise class at the leisure centre today, was not so exhausted afterwards as last week, but she had wisely not overdone things with her replaced shoulder, so no pain there this week. She is now booked in for next week.

Good to hear you are making progress Goldie, commiserations R&R, hope the pain is subsiding, congratulations DSB, age does have this tendency to creep up on us!

Firstly, thank you all for your kind comments. Looking back on it, the overall feeling I had was one of being a complete idiot! I just felt so stupid lying there on the floor!! Yes - we are disappointed at having to cancel our trip but I have to say that Nicola @Skybarn Farm CL has been so understanding and helpful and, hopefully, we will be there in July.

@Goldie146 - that sounds like a big step forward and quite a milestone for you. Just take things steadily and get well soon.

@milliehull - lovely photo of you all and good to be able to put a face to a name. Hope your OH gets on OK with the pain management. I'm going through the process at the moment, but whilst there's a lot of talking being done by various healthcare professionals, there's not a lot of pain management taking place!

@Bakers2 - that's a great suggestion re the 'scooper' - thanks - I'll look into it. We're also looking at the idea of a cordless lawn mower. I'm finding the current petrol one a bit difficult and too fast to walk behind and Ros wouldn't go anywhere near it.

On the issue of covid jabs, I've never had a reaction to any sort of jab whatsoever - until the Covid one last spring when I felt decidedly rough for 24 hours afterwards. Didn't happen this year so don't know what was in the one last year!

It has been very cold here with northerly and easterly winds. Had to put the heating on again.

Last weekend was our Scout Groups Jumble Sale, after expenses we raised £1800, which is a handy amount.

Dental appointment yesterday going to have to have 2 x extractions. That for another day.

Today had to take the car in for a new ABS sensor.

Friday we are off in the van again, going to a new for us CL just outside Aylsham.

    Nice to see everybody’s photos

A day at home to sort various things, particularly finances as OH has a 1 year fixed rate bond maturing tomorrow. It seems to be a bit of a minefield at present as interest rates are changing frequently. She has opted to auto renew at a good rate, now trying to decide whether to add to it. Question is how much do we need to keep immediately available for unexpected things.

Otherwise, weather very variable so I will be doing stuff in the van……testing the water system, particularly the skoosh of the shower…..and deciding whether we need a different shower head or even a different pump. We will want to have a spare one with us anyway as it is an essential item. Will also check the Alde water heating works as it should, plus I have the load monitor to fit.

We are on grandparent duties tomorrow, plus we have a request from DD to bring her some sharp sand to use when laying stepping stones in her lawn. And there is still sanding to do on the second hand playhouse she got for the boys, plus those trees to finish cutting, so I will be kept busy.

At the weekend we installed her robot grass cutter in the garden, she has made it a little house to keep off the worst of the weather. It needs fairly short grass to start with so she cut it first with her cordless lawn mower, which she finds very good. Both these items are only inexpensive ones from Lidl.

Well, unless I am missing something, the performance of the shower head is extremely poor. The pump however is very good.

The head is supposedly one of those Eco Camel types, but there are so many outlet holes in it that the skoosh is useless as it is. Turned upside down, the water only just makes it a few cm above the head, is there some adjustment that can be made on it, I have no experience of this type of head? It also uses a lot of water.

@Goldie146 was wondering how you were getting on, good to hear from you. It has been a long haul for you. Keep at it girl you will get there. Sending very best wishes.

Lawnmower box still sitting in the hall, another day waiting for them to pick it up. OH finally took my advice and contacted Amazon, seems they will pick it up on Thursday now! In the meantime another one has been delivered so now we have two of them. As long as it encourages OH to mow the front and back lawns more often so that I can stop having to do it then that’s fine. Hopefully he will enjoy his new toy for a while.

Granddaughter and niece with the new baby came here for the afternoon. Baby is 3 months now, chunky little chap. We were all treated to smiles before he finally succumbed to needing his nap and Mum taking him home. We did all get a cuddle though. Granddaughter rushed into hospital again yesterday so she was also tired and OH has just taken her home too. I would take her but parking outside her house is a nightmare and I’m hopeless at parallel parking.

Hospital appointment tomorrow, hopefully now the last one just to cover a few things. Then hopefully that really is it.

Today is the anniversary of when I had my stroke. Coincidentally I also had an appointment at the Eye Clinic. The good news is that my eyes have not got worse since the stroke but the issue with the upper right quadrant still persists. Apparently my central and forward looking vision is very good. It seems that after a year I can apply to the DVLA about reinstating my Driving Licence. I don't for one moment think it will be as simple as that. Not sure I am prepared to jump through lots of hoops to get it back but might just ask what is involved? It would also mean I would have to buy a car which would need to be an automatic, no problem there as my previous five cars were automatics.
