Pleased to read that you have made it down to York @KjellNN even if it was a slow journey. Enjoy your stay there.
@RedKite hope your OH's scan today didn't turn up anything untoward.
Today has been the wettest day we have had for over 7 weeks, with showers through the morning and one torrential downpour just after Flyte and I back from our mid morning walk. I gave the cleaning of the car a miss and instead washed down the skirting boards in the lounge ready for painting them this weekend. Boy do we have fun when we get back home from our trips!!😄

Same here @nelliethehooker - in fact the rain drumming on the 'van roof in the middle of the night woke us both up. It was bitterly cold, as well - such a change from recent weather. Still, the forecast looks much better for the next few days.
Got an odd day ahead of me - I have to 'nip' back home (45 miles!) to meet the guy from Openreach who, hopefully, is going to bring the drawn out process of us switching to full fibre broadband to a conclusion. To say that they're a communications company, they clearly don't do that very well within their own organisation and what should have taken a few hours to complete has been going on for weeks. I won't bore you all with the details except to say that when I placed the order, I spelled out - in great detail - the problems they would have - and did they take any notice - no!
So - when they offered this appointment, I grabbed it even though I knew we were away. Just hope that it can be sorted today - but I shall have to spend some time re-connecting the CCTV and smart lighting to the new system before heading back here.

Wet, windy and cold yesterday. We have builders here working on an old shippon in readiness for our new project. On Monday they were working with their shirts off but yesterday they had to give up early.
In the evening we went to Settle to see the Young ‘Uns. The car told us it was 6 degrees. 30 degrees less than our son who is away in foreign parts
Fine so far today, so hopefully the builders will arrive soon.

It was cold here in South Yorks as well yesterday🥶 I was going out to put some edging in place on our new patio, but opted to have a couple of hours inside greenhouse instead. Glad I didn’t plant out my tender stuff. However, it is glorious this morning, sunny and warm if you can get out of the icy breeze. Got the dreaded dentist this afternoon, and it will be painful I know😫
Good news re a new stopover for Campers/MHs in our area. Will post in Sites heading.0 -
Me too, David, and see also the 'Guess the site dog walk' thread.

Hi Rowena
It started to appear on my android phone this morning. I haven't checked my PC yet. Thank you for looking into it.1 -
@Rowena - I noticed it yesterday. I was using my MacBook whilst we were away. Now back home (temporarily) re the broadband switchover and it's the same on my iMac.

yesterday for me too although I have noticed it intermittently in the past. iPad & Safari.

Decided to do an early shop so took a cuppa to OH still in bed and was back in fairly quick time for breakfast and a shower. OH and self went for a stroll to see if our local Swallows were back at a farm. They were, not many but the first trickle. Got back for a coffee then took MiL for a stroll to our dog walking field. It's slightly uphill going so she gets a bit of exercise then has a sit down when we get there. I don't know why I take a tennis ball and throw it for her because she never fetches it.😂
Got back and joined OH in the garden weeding a large border. Mostly taking too many Grandmas' Bonnets out. Had lunch then continued with weeding. The soil is about perfect at the moment for this. More to do tomorrow if we don't seize up.
Weather was gorgeous this morning but has clouded over now and I think we may get some rain.

I can see them all now @Takethedogalong . (Android Phone). I'd give it a little time to settle...??

Had an interesting conversation with MK Hospital this afternoon. Now that Margaret has had her operation (second trip round Waitrose today👍️) we thought it would be an idea to check to see if she was still on the NHS list or whether our surgery had informed them about her private operation. Apparently she was still on the list but its only been 34 weeks and I was told patients are only given appointments after the current waiting time of 40 weeks!!! Its beyond imagination how long she would have had to wait, could almost see it being next year. We asked them to remove her from the list, at least someone else might have a marginally shorter wait?

@nelliethehooker heyho not in red, just to say all good with OH'S scan today got there at 15.20pm and he was out and one by 15.45pm as that was the time of his scan had to wait for the results and no issues thankfully he did not even have to undress for the scan even kept his shoes on now got a folder with results with a CD attached and will have to go every 12 months for the same scan.
Weather very mixed some rain some sun but very chilly in the wind and down to 02C brr.
Happy Easter folks. Saw quite a lot of walkers doing the Compostella route as they go through Cahors and looking a bit chilly.1 -
@DavidKlyne that just shows what a postcode lottery it is. As you know, I haven't had to wait anywhere near that length of time. I first went back to my GP when my pain started getting worse on 18 December, and had my op 15 weeks later. That includes being sent for an x-ray first and going back for the results on the 10th of January, which is when the referral was made. So from that date it's a day less than 12 weeks. I can't believe that some people have to wait 40 weeks before even getting a clinic appointment, that's so unfair. I do consider myself extremely fortunate, but this shouldn't be down to where you live.
Incidentally, I had my clips removed today, never felt anything. The nurse said she wouldn't put a dressing on it, as the wound is dry and looking good, but gave me a couple just in case.
Went to the hairdresser's yesterday, and Aldi 😜 and Tesco's today. What an exciting couple of days!

@InaD Glad the clips came out OK, well on the way to recovery now. Have you got bored with using crutches around the house?
It seems to me that Milton Keynes has a real problem with Orthopedic surgery. We now have a population of approaching 300,000 and only one hospital. Given that many would have come to MK when we did 40 odd years ago I suspect there are lots of hips and knees needing replacing. Had Margaret not had the issue of a past heart bypass its possible it could have been done in a NHS funded private facility sooner. Having said that I know several ex colleagues who have paid privately for operations and others who seem to wiz through the system. Perhaps its to do with which Consultant you are referred to?

Glad all went well with OH's scan @RedKite
@richardandros hope you were able to sort out the issue with the Openreach guy, and you didn't have a wasted journey.
Good news that you have had the clips removed @InaD and that the wound appears to be healing well.
It was a much nicer day today with bright sunshine, but still a bit chilly in the shade. I was able to get the car washed, waxed and Bobby Dazzled this morning interspersed with taking Flyte out for his walks. Received a phone call at lunchtime from the caravan dealers to say that our caravan was ready for collection, earlier than we expected, and could we pop through and collect it as they were going to be rammed with visitors this weekend and want the space. We drove over just after 1:00 and were home and had it put away by 2:30. Now I have to hope the fine weather holds and I can get it cleaned.

"hope you were able to sort out the issue with the Openreach guy, and you didn't have a wasted journey."
Oh I nearly did @nelliethehooker ! Having had at least one text per day for the last 10 days - reminding me about the appt (1pm to 6pm) and asking me to confirm it was still OK - I received another at 1000 yesterday telling me the engineer was on his way. Then another one, 10 minutes later to say he was on site! Despite the fact that the contact number they had also sent me was wrong, I did manage to contact him by a circuitous route and establish that he was prepared to stay there until the allotted appt time????? I managed to get home by just after 1100 by which time he had made the necessary connection (which I knew would only take him 5 minutes!) - but we were able to sort out all the various connections inside the house. Connecting the CCTV and Smart sockets to the new system was actually quite straightforward.
His parting words were "once I have notified base that you are all connected, your phones will be back on within half an hour". In reality - because the 'activation date' isn't until the end of the month (don't ask me why!), I established from EE, that they won't be back on until then! No real problem since we are away until then, anyway.
What an absolute joke the whole thing has been🤨

@DavidKlyne That is a huge amount of people for one hospital; and that is probably the difference; as well as the fact that, as you point out, a lot of those will be of the age where joints have started to wear out and need replacing. When I was contacted by the booking centre about my appointment, I had the choice of 4 hospitals; I chose the private NHS funded one and the appointment was for a fortnight later. Whether I would have had an appointment as quick in one of the other NHS hospitals I don't know of course, as I never asked about those. I wasn't referred to any consultant in particular; in our area you are referred and the central booking centre then contacts you with a choice of hospitals. What you say about Margaret's previous medical history most likely also plays a role: I don't have any and so presumably that's more straightforward for them to deal with. Although whether that would make any difference in MK would remain to be seen.
Yes, I was getting bored walking round the house on crutches, so we did go out for a walk up the road for a short distance on a few occasions, as well as going to Tesco and Aldi a few times! Also visited a few neighbours/friends within a very short walking distance. Feels better wthout the clips.
I wish you and Margaret a good Easter weekend.

@nelliethehooker thank you, yes, it all feels better now the clips are out. Weather today not looking too bad here, although not forecast to be as nice as yesterday; hope you'll be able to get the caravan cleaned.
@richardandros I can well imagine how frustrating yesterday must have been, to get all those messages saying someone will be there between 1-6pm, only for them to arrive hours before that; ridiculous. Glad you got it all sorted, you'll need an extra holiday after all that!

Lots going on with folks, mostly positive so long may it continue. Cool here today, but dry, so far🤞 Hoping to get more done in garden later, but am at Mum’s in between.
OH’s latest scan is delayed here, first time ever, but it’s routine, not urgent. It’s a pertinent point about some places having a much larger population nowadays, than when original services such as hospitals, GP surgeries, etc….. were planned. All too often the houses go up, with glitzy promises from the developers, but some essential things never materialise. Obviously a hospital is a bit different, but I do think this country has lost the path of being able to do long term planning well to a certain extent. If you are getting on a bit, and need more hospital care for any kind of ongoing condition, it certainly concentrates the thoughts about moving house somewhere different. One of the reasons we have probably made our minds up to stay put, we have our big local multi health issue hospital ten minutes away, the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, who specialise in lots of different urgent and chronic conditions are twenty minutes, including Weston Park Cancer Hospital. OH was referred to the superb Cancer unit at St James Hospital Leeds last year, and on a good run, this is only half an hour. We would both love to live somewhere like Dartmoor, but don’t fancy the long drives to hospitals from more remote places.2 -
Glad to hear you've been 'unclipped' @InaD . You must be feeling a lot better now.😁
Can't get over how quiet it is here at Thornthorpe CS. Only us and some friends we bump into every Easter although I believe there is another unit coming later - but only for one night! It's usually packed over Easter - and this year, because the holiday is so late - I thought there would have been more. It seems to mirror comments on other threads, though.
After yesterday's dashing about - not doing much today and Ros is doing her embroidery, sitting in the awning. Plan to have a look at Malton market tomorrow and pick up some of their lovely fresh fruit and veg.

As you realise @Takethedogalong , location of hospitals becomes more important as we get older. Our nearest general hospital (25 miles away) was built years ago and the population has increased terrifically since then. The house building continues with little or no increase in primary or hospital provision yet it is an area where the average age of residents is increasing and we won’t even get into the discussion of the huge summer influx! I despair at times.
If we’d stayed at our previous house, the major university hospital in the area would have been much closer but heavy city traffic meant the journey could take as long as the 25 mile journey here. Swings and roundabouts🎠

Reasonable weather here in York, yesterday was very sunny, less so today.
There was one MH on site when we arrived, they left yesterday and another one arrived, so not busy meantime. Owner has indicated that it will be busier over the weekend. The CL has what looks like 5 grass pitches and 5 hardstandings, so choice for everyone, we are on the HS area. The site is not far from the ring road, we can just hear the traffic, but it is not intrusive, pretty quiet overall. There seems to be 3 large birds roaming at will, guinea fowl, and lots of squirrels.
Yesterday we did some shopping but have otherwise just been relaxing. We move to our next site on Sunday.

Obviously our Hospital in MK has developed over the years with new units being added. The latest plan is to build a child and mother hospital within the grounds that would free up space in the main hospital. That is probably a sound idea because we have a lot of young families in MK. The Hospital is also now a University Hospital. We can be referred to Bedford and Northampton hospitals for certain things. Of course we are also about equal distance between the John Radcliffe in Oxford (where Margaret had her heart operation) and Addenbrookes in Cambridge so some of the more complicated procedures are sent to the major hospitals.
