@InaD That seems a bit odd that you can't seem to find someone to remove the clips. Margaret is going back to where she had the operation, plus a physio session afterwards. Assuming local surgeries have nursing staff I would have thought removal of stitches and clips was fairly routine? Somebody I know who has also had a hip replacement said that he didn't have clips but dissolvable stitches which surprised me a bit. I think you said you had to travel to the private hospital which wasn't that local? I think I would suggest contacting the private hospital and say you are finding impossible to get an appointment and make an appointment with them? At least then you know its not up in the air. Even when you have the operation in the NHS they refer you to your local surgery.

    Good Luck

    David

@DavidKlyne Yes, I think it's very odd; but, as I said in my earlier post, on contacting the hospital yesterday, they told me to keep trying, but if I had no joy, to contact them, and they would do it. So I'll carry on trying this week, and if I don't get anywhere, I'll ring the hospital next Monday. Can't believe after everything going so well, something like taking clips/stitches out seems to be like asking for the moon!

@Takethedogalong that's what I expected here, but obviously not so. Wonder if it's different areas operating in different ways?

@DavidKlyne I had dissolvable stitches after my hip replacement, perhaps it’s just a surgeon preference?

Another lovely sunny day here and quite warm when out in the sun. We were away quite early this morning and headed to Eden camp a place we hadn’t been to for some time. Great place lots of good exhibits and replica street scenes etc a good example of what people on the home front endured during the war. Also lots of information on both world wars. Had a small collection of classic cars too so spent a bit of time looking at them. We ended up there until 5 when it closed highly recommend a visit for anyone in the area who is interested in that kind of thing. After that we didn’t feel like cooking back at the van so went in to the village pub on way back to the site and had a lovely meal

Some more grand photos today, I especially like the maroon Austin Seven @Francis. Margaret did good with the walk and is looking well @DavidKlyne .

@KjellNN in England the schools always have the Easter BH weekend as part of their holiday before starting the summer term. If Easter is early then they take the Good Friday as the start of the holiday period, and if it is late then they go back to school after Easter Monday. Glad the family are enjoying Seaton Sands, with the extra entertainment today!

@InaD hope you soon get it sorted out and you get the clips removed at the correct time.

We have had the same sort of weather as most seem to have had today, again after a frosty night. We did a walk of about 5mls all told, down and back up Lathkill Dale from the top, including Jacob's Ladder, to the waterfall. We have seen quite a few parties of D of E young people, who stayed overnight at a campsite close to our CL.

@Francis we love Eden Camp, such a great day out and so much to see. The Club used to do either free or 2 for 1 entry on the Great Days out scheme, but I think that finished a few years ago.

    @nelliethehooker nice photos!

Great night out here, War of the Worlds concert/ stage show. The music is still brilliant, the Liam Neeson hologram is very good, and the lighting and special effects excellent, well worth seeing.

@InaD I presume clips are similar to stitches? That doesn’t sound good, you’d think someone would be able to do it without you having to keep ringing around. I had dissolveable stitches but I was sent home with a drain, which the District Nurse removed on one of her regular visits to me.

@DavidKlyne Margaret is looking well and doing well for walking by the looks of her. Keep that up.

I just walked to the hairdressers yesterday, which I would usually do in my stride but I did become very puffed, I had intended walking up the hill to the pharmacist on the way home but decided to give it a miss. Six weeks of less activity and this is where it gets one. Use it or loose it comes to mind. I had spent three hours of quite heavy (for me) gardening beforehand but must get back to walking more. Gardening again today, it’s my happy place and it’s getting there and most of the new plants are now in. OHs turn, he has a hospital appointment today, I did offer to go with him but was secretly glad when he said no, I’ve seen enough of the place lately, and gives me more time for gardening.

@DavidKlyne That's a nice photo, well done Margaret. Funnily enough, yesterday I wanted a change of scenery too, so we went to a local "Millennium Green". Never been before, but it's quite pleasant, very small, but there are a good number of benches to sit on along the way. So we walked 1 of the "loops", which, according to the info board, is 430 metres. It went quite well, further than anticipated, and felt better for it. Hope everything went well today as far as clip removal and physio is concenred.

@nelliethehooker Thank you. I've been given reassurance that the clips will be removed on the day, but it's not what I was expecting.

@DEBSC I wish I'd had dissolvable stitches! I just expected to go to my surgery and have them removed, or being visited by a District nurse, never gave it a thought beforehand. They've now taken my details at the surgery, and if they get a cancellation they'll ring me; other than that, the hospital said to contact them and they'll do it, if I can't get an appointment elsewere. Really don't need all that aggro.

It sounds quite an energetic day for you yesterday; 3 hours of gardening and then a walk to the hairdressers and back; you're right, it doesn't take long before you notice it when you've been less active than you've been used to. But also, any surgery is an assault on your body and takes its toll, and not just physically. It sounds like you're doing well, and this good weather is also helping, enabling you to spend a lot of time gardening. Keep it up!

Not quite as fine a day weather wise, although it started off sunny a thin mist soon came across from the East. Thankfully by around 11:00 the sun broke through and the rest of the day remained sunny, but not as warm as the previous days. We met up with @Takethedogalong and her OH for a very pleasant lunch followed by a walk along part of the Monsal Trail and finishing off with ice creams before going out separate ways. It was lovely seeing them, and Reives, again as it has been a while since we last met, and had a lot to catch up on.

Athough it was busy in Bakewell and along the trail we have been the only van on site until this afternoon, and reading posts on Facebook there are plenty of other sites that still have vacancies during the Easter period. I see that the "club" are having to offer additional discounts on certain sites to encourage members to use grass and services pitches!

Nice to see you both and Flyte as well @nelliethehooker 😁We took the scenic route home after saying goodbye, anything to avoid Sheffield and it’s traffic🫣 Beautiful drive home. Another lovely day in the sunshine, but that wind was sneaky late afternoon.

Glorious morning again here. We have a landscaper coming to give us a quote for a stone patio circle on our big lawn this morning. Then HRH the dog is off to the vets, so we have checked the bank balance😱

Another lovely sunny day today, washing and drying done using power from the roof. We have been sorting clothes for our trip and generally getting things organised, cleaning car etc.

Yesterday was overcast mid morning, but otherwise very sunny, so the solar panels have been generating well, a very good month income wise so far!

We went shopping in Lidl yesterday, to get that out of the way, and took care of a few other tasks too. Flour delivered to DD’s house, car filled with fuel, keys for guide hall dropped off, some free wood for turning picked up, and a quick visit to Waitrose for some easy to cook items for the freezer and our trip.

Tomorrow I will load the car, so only a couple of cool bags of perishables to add on Saturday morning. DD has negotiated a 12 noon departure from the site, so no need to rush away in the morning. Still to decide whether to set out early and arrive there for breakfast, or eat breakfast first. Tending towards the first option as roads could be busy.

Been another good couple of days here. Yesterday weather wasn’t great but was dry so we went to Thornton Le Dale in the morning to visit the Mathewsons (Bangers and Cash) gift shop and spent far too much as usual when there said hello to Derek didn’t get a picture with him as we done that last time we were there. Then headed up to their warehouses at Pickering as they were open for viewing so spent 2 hours in there wandering around looking at all the lovely cars if money were no object and we had plenty of garages I’d have spent a fortune. After dinner we took a walk down to the village pub for a pint

Today weather was much better so I was up early and away a cycle then when I came back SWMBO suggested we visit the Scarborough fair ground museum which is out near Filey right next to Flower of May holiday park. What a great place lots of nice cars and motorbikes and some fascinating vintage fair rides most of which were in working order and open for people to have a go. Also there was a dance floor with quite a few people ballroom dancing. What a place so glad we went and well worth a visit for anyone in the area that’s interested. Then went a walk along Filey seafront which was very busy. Pizza cooked on the Cadac tonight while sitting out enjoying the sunshine. Not much planned tonight just stay in van and have a drink or two

See pic below of one of the exhibits at the fair museum our van is quite big but don’t think we could downsize this much

Margaret had her clips out yesterday, they looked more like staples to me! Wound seems to have healed well and most of the bruising has now gone. Immediately after she had a Physio session and they seemed pleased with progress. She can now walk around the house without a walking aid but still needs one to to go upstairs. The Physio seemed quite pleased with her progress. One battle she didn't win was not to wear the compression socks which she hates but was told they were for her own good, only another four weeks! Another breakthrough today, we went to Waitrose and she managed to walk all the way round with the aid of her crutches. Stopped and chatted to several ex colleagues as we went round. A bit exhausted afterwards.

As things seem to be getting back to nearer normal decided the order my garden Gazebo from IKEA today. Giver the price I was a bit surprised the charged for delivery! I have decided to use their assembly service as I would probably struggle to do it on my own. I suppose its one of the problems of growing old that things you would have done yourself 5/10 years ago you now pay someone else to do.

Pleased to read of Margaret's progress @DavidKlyne hope that it continues in tge same vein.

Good to read that you are still having good weather too, @Francis how much longer it will last is in the balance as the forecast is not great after the weekend. Enjoy the rest of your stay.

We decided to walk from the site today, after OH's latest, and a last for this trip, washing, which again dried nicely outside. We walked down into Lathkill Dale and continued down the dale as far as the old mill, which someone is renovating. The dale is much changed from the last time we visited, with many sh trees, cut down, due it Die Back and just left on the river banks, some of the weirs have been opened up and there is much more plantlife in the stream bed. Many new trees have also been planted. Although it was busy at Bakewell and along the trail yesterday there were few people walking the dale. I had a walk after we got back along the crag edge and took a couple of these photos of the dale.

Arrived home from Bridgnorth this afternoon. We had a good few days.... weather kept good...

Glad to hear about Margaret's progress @DavidKlyne - she sounds to be doing really well. 👍👍

Glad to read of @InaD 's progress too... 👍👍

@Francis: interested to read that you cooked a pizza on the Cadac. Do you have a pizza stone? We bought a pizza stone some years back.... the second time we used it, the thing cracked so we haven't bothered with 'cadac pizzas' since.... perhaps I didn't use the pizza stone correctly....??

Have a good time, those who are still out and about in caravans/motorhomes....

@DSB Yes we cook pizza on the Cadac often we bought one of the pizza stones about 10 years ago and still use the same one had no issue with it. One thing we were told when we bought it was never to put water near it as that can cause them to crack. Tip for cooking pizza on them is to heat the stone up first with the lid on and then put the temp gauge down to minimum and then put the pizza on because the stone retains the heat and the pizza then cooks well without getting burnt

@nelliethehooker lovely photos. Good news on Margaret DK, doing really well.

It reached 20c yesterday here, very hot in the sun. We had a fairly quiet day after the vets. The pooch is doing ok thankfully. Got our garden quote, and they are back here today cracking on, so we shall get our pool up earlier than we thought. It’s another lovely day, 20c forecast again, hopefully weekend should stay nice but it’s going to drop cooler next week. I am at Mum’s later.

Lovely weather for those out and about, long may it last😁

Not posted on here for a few days - been somewhat hectic what with going away and getting sorted for the funeral on Monday. Had to buy a new shirt because all of my others had shrunk!😏 and a new pair of shoes because I can't get into mine because of the big bony lump on my big toe!! Hospital appt, for Ros last Tuesday - a follow-up to her colonoscopy last month. She's been having them every year for the last 30 years or so - so nothing new but this time the surgeon was concerned because he had to remove 10 polyps. Thankfully, he reported finding nothing untoward whatsoever - so that was a big relief.

Got to start loading the van and the car today - thankfully the weather is glorious here - then cut the grass before we go away, clean the BBQ etc etc - it's all go😀

@DavidKlyne Good news about Margaret, clips out, physio pleased and a walk round Waitrose! She must be really pleased with how well she's doing.

@DSB Thank you, yes, I'm doing quite well, IMHO of course! But it's a leap into the unknown really, I had no idea beforehand what I would be able to do and when. Read enough literature, but of course everyone is different.

@richardandros I'm really pleased Ros's colonoscopy turned out to have a good result. It must still be a worry each time she has to undergo one. Enjoy your packing and best wishes for Monday.

All this talk of ops, etc… takes me back a bit. Only time I have ever been in hospital was aged 27. I had to have a shoulder pinned, and muscles “plaited” to shorten them. A recurring dislocation through my teens and into early 20’s. A confrontation with a showjumping fence ended badly, so after putting off the op for a few years, I had it done. I was in hospital for around 10 days, but able to walk around with pain killers, so I did a lot of fetching and carrying for others on Ward who had undergone leg surgery. I had to wear a full body stocking with my arm immobilised alongside for around a month, so poor old OH had to look after me. Then the physio started😱 three times a week in hospital gym for around four months, plus exercises at home. It seemed never ending, and of course I couldn't drive, so it was a bit boring as well. You wonder how long it’s going to take to get back on an even keel, but thankfully I did. I can no longer do butterfly stroke, or throw a javelin, but I did manage to get back onto the horse. Never jumped another fence mind🫣. A deal harder the older you get though to get over things.

@Takethedogalong I won't try and guess how long ago your shoulder op was (!), but wonder whether the same op nowadays would only require an overnight stay, if not done as a daycase! It's interesting that all ops required lengthy hospital stays, strict bedrest for a week, or weeks, and once home, not able to do much if anything. Of course experience of how patients recover, new technology, plus the fact that there are so many more patients on waiting lists will all have contributed to shorter stays than was customary decades ago.

I agree with your last sentence, recovery takes longer as you get older, that hasn't changed.

I had some really sad news at the beginning of the week. I have some cousins who are around 20 years younger than me as they are the offspring of my Dad's youngest brother (he was one of a large family). The husband of one of these cousins died unexpectedly at the weekend whilst having a fairly routine operation. For some reason it took a lot longer than expected and his kidneys and liver failed. Unfortunately his wife (who was my cousin and also my god daughter) died about 5 years ago as she had a lot of problems. There are now 2 young girls in their early 20s, one of them still at university, who have now lost both their parents. Absolutely tragic for them. They live in Surrey and have an aunt and family and an uncle and family who live reasonably near who I know will give them all the help, support and love they can but their life will never be the same again.

Good news about Margaret @DavidKlyne she looks really well. Also pleased to hear you are making good progress @InaD. More good news about your brother @Oneputt and your son and DIL have a new foster child.

@milliehull dreadful news for your family, it’s devastating when family are left so young. Our thoughts are with you.

@InaD my op was a long time ago indeed. In fact, patients were still allowed to smoke on the Ward, unimaginable today😱 Yes, I would probably have been in and out a lot sooner. The general anaesthetic knocked me for six I do recall. The care was good though. No waiting lists in those days.🙂

Ina, It was interesting what you said about stays in hospital for certain types of operation. The nurse that took out Margaret's clips, who was of a certain age, said it wasn't uncommon in years gone by for patients having hip replacements to stay in hospital until the stitches/clips came out. Oh how things have changed!

Hope you are getting on OK.
