What are you all up to

Another lovely sunny day here, just as well as we are working on loading up the caravan for DD and family to use next week. Having had to be emptied for the service, there is a lot to put back in now that we have finished all the cleaning. Will do some this morning before we go out.
Covid vaccinations this evening. We were sent a date of 12th June, which is not exactly โspringโ in my book, so went on line and changed it. Good to have it done before we go away to mingle with the masses!

@InaD - hope all went well with the op today and that you are now recovering.
We had our Covid jabs this morning - in and out in two minutes and was very well organised by our local Pharmacy. Then back home for another bout of caravan polishing - back, front and one side done - will finish it off, tomorrow. The weather here is glorious, despite a little bit of a chilly breeze coming in off the sea.

And the fine weather continues!! Paid a visit to Rutland Water to view the Ospreys on their nest combined with a couple of short walks around Manton before refuelling at the local Tesco, Aldi and then the Co-op for diesel.

Another fine day.
Shopping early on then I gave our 3 walls under the front windows a new lick of Masonry Paint, whilst the ladies went for a walk. MiL getting used to her new stroller now and feels more comfortable with it. Visit to the Recycling Centre this afternoon.
We received a phone call this morning from MiLs surgery. They had her down for a Bone Scan in 2015, nothing done, reviewed in 2017, nothing done then either but now asking whether she would like one and is she up to having one! I know the NHS has a backlog but this is ridiculous. She should have had one 10 years ago. Anyway she's agreed to have one having suffered from Osteoporosis in the past.

We are at our caravan, a quick visit between appointments to open it up for the season. And such lovely weather. Weโve been busy putting everything back where it belongs and OH has jet washed the decking, not sure how it gets so filthy, so much green algae. It took him hours but next door said his took almost a day to do. Ive given the inside a good spring clean, so weโve both been busy doing chores. Family and friends who we havenโt seen since last autumn have invited us to theirs to catch up, so I havenโt had to cook a meal so far, off to our friends house for a meal in a bit, we just have to supply the pud. Our next door neighbours have offered to keep an eye on the caravan for us as, depending on the length of my radiotherapy - and I wonโt know until my first appointment in a couple of weeks, we may not be able to get back for a while. A brief visit into Stratford today, very busy as usual with lots of people sitting out near the river enjoying the sunshine, still quite breezy though. It is so nice to be back here, even if briefly.

So glad to hear that you are out and about @DEBSC and able to get to your caravan. That must lift your spirts.
Another lovely day with wall to wall sunshine although it is getting a bit chilly now. I led a tour of the Cathedral this afternoon. They were a lovely group of 10 people. I am now very tired. I wish I had the energy that I used to have 10 years ago!

Such lovely photos @nelliethehooker. Thank you so much for posting them. Interesting that you mention Manton. When I researched my family history some years ago OH and I went to Leicester County Record office (where Rutlands records are kept) and traced my father's family back to Manton. Oakham Castle and Museum are well worth a visit while you are in the area. It is free to visit but they do welcome donations.

Glad everybody is enjoying the sunshine and hospital appointements etc seem to be going reasonably to plan.
Have to say we had our covid jabs on Wednesday at the local pharmacy, why cant the local surgery be as efficient in and out within 10 minutes, last time we used the surgery we queued for 30 mins in the rain, rant over.
we have had almost 1 month now of wall to wall sunshine, not been away in the caravan as we have had many vistors but it has been put to good use as a guests bedroom we are planning a trip to Devon Wednesday 23rd April and from there we will go to our much loved site in Cornwall for 3 weeks, just hope the weather holds up, Cornwall is booked, Devon we will play by ear.
Not done any swimming in the Solent as yet, 10 degs is a tad cold for me, but might be brave tomorrow if the wind abates a little, but it is very good for the local sailing club , garden is looking lovely but having to water the pots and hanging baskets

Garden is looking good, @Rufs and it is nice to see others are making the most of the current conditions.
@DEBSC pleased to read that you feel well enough to do the hard work cleaning your caravan. Hope that the radiotherapy didn't affect you over much and you feel able to spend some time at it.
Thanks @milliehull It is interesting about your forebearers. Manton is a lovely little village, as are quite a few in Rutland.

Now that Margaret has been home for a week and now she seems to be getting around the house OK so not so much need for my "supervision"! She has always been able to get up and down the stairs but naturally was bit nervous at first but now is confident enough for me not to be around. This allowed me a bit more time to do a couple of jobs outside. We had some decking installed last year and although it is treated wood it was recommended that it is oiled with a deck oil. So that was one job today plus I managed to give the car a quick once over. Not road dirt but dust, no doubt due to the good weather? Even the conservatory roof which was only washed a week ago by our window cleaners, now has a layer of dust. On balance I think I would prefer the nice weather and have to clean the car a bit more often!
Hope InaD is getting on OK after her op?

We visited Burghley today with a walk through the estate grounds before lunch and then around the gardens in the afternoon. We were fortunate in that there was access into the South Garden. It was another lovely day but there was still that chill breeze. Some views of the house from the S.Garden and a few other things that caught my eye.

@Takethedogalong , along with others would be interested in what I guess is a rare car here on site, a 1933 Austin 7, similar to that driven by OH's grandfather! No photo of it yet, but maybe tomorrow.
Glad that Margaret appears to be make excellent progress, @DavidKlyne, fingers crossed that her progress continues.

Hiya @DavidKlyne , glad to hear that Margaret is getting on well, sounds like sheโs coming on leaps and bounds, so to speak. I imagine the scar must be sore still?
A few years back, I built a pergola, but instead of using timber for the flooring (decking), I used a composite, a mixture of wood (chips?) and recycled plastic. Not cheap, but very low maintenance required.

Good news that that those in recovery are going on well, and getting out and about. Look forward to your photo of car Nellie, our friends had an Austin Ruby that they used to go to shows with, gorgeous little cars. Lovely photos from everyone as well.
Beautiful day here, lovely in the sunshine, but cold with that breeze in the shade. Shorts for me today. OH has mended our garden gate, my big rose had taken out the top lintel, so there was a bit of cursing every time the rose bit back๐คญ Heโs done a few jobs on the MH as well, the loo is working again, bit of tidying. I had a full day in garden putting back some pots and plants that got caught up in the hedge removal, cleaned the big pond pump, lots of other little jobs. Lovely sitting outside for lunch again. Got a few things on next week, off to see War of the Worlds at Sheffield Arena, hoping to see some friends when they are in area (๐) and the pooch has a big check up at the vets on Thursday, so that will be ยฃยฃยฃยฃยฃ๐ฑ

Wonderful photos, as usual, @nelliethehooker and glad many are out enjoying the weather. Also glad to hear about Margaret's continued progress @DavidKlyne.
We're getting ready for our next outing in the caravan. Not going too far.... it'll be Stanmore Hall (AS site) at Bridgnorth. We're combining the visit with a trip out to Astbury Hall, for a late Christmas present... an afternoon tea... ๐๐ No doubt photos to follow! ๐๐
David.

Wonderful photos @nelliethehooker - you certainly get out and about - more so than Ros and I, these days.
Good news about Margaret, @DavidKlyne - sounds like she is making really good progress.
Good to hear that you've managed to get back to the van @DEBSC - just remember - take it steadily after your radiotherapy and don't try to do too much!
We've booked a week at North York Moors in May - determined to support that site and would be so sad if it went the same way as other non-fac sites. Still have nothing booked for the rest of the year - which is unusual for us and I have a 'milestone' birthday in June - so must get something sorted soon.

@Freddy55 Thanks, yes the clips are causing some discomfort but the good news is that they come out next Wednesday so hopefully that will ease the discomfort. It doesn't look very pretty as those that have had a hip replacement will know that you get a lot of post operative bruising but even that is starting to improve.
David

@DavidKlyne very glad to hear that Margaret is doing well. I remember well how quickly things improved after mine. I think the first week was a bit of a challenge whilst finding out what did and didnโt work, and the wound being a bit sore, but after that it was impressive how quickly I got around. Yes the bruising is impressive as well!! We are lucky these days to have these amazing procedures as I remember my Grandmother being totally immobile with osteoarthritis and seemed to live on codeine for the pain!

Have now booked our holiday in June - two weeks at the C&CC site at Dartmouth with two x 2 day stopovers at Broadway, each way. We absolutely love Dartmouth - especially with me having been at the College over 50 years ago. We haven't been since we got this 8' wide van - even cancelled a booking a couple of years ago because I got nervous about taking it there. It's just that stretch from the A38 through to Totnes and the A3122 to Dartmouth that worries me as it's a bit tight in places. Just wondered if anyone else has towed an 8' wide van on that stretch? I'm sure it will be fine - it's just that I'm a worrier!!๐ฎ

A lovely sunny and warm day here after 4 days of cool cloudy and windy weather even some rain on one day and next week looks good same as UK and it is our local boot sale in the village tomorrow so will be good for folks to have a warm day as the last few years it has been awful so will take a walk around midday as quieter then as folks have gone to lunch.
OH has just new ride on mower blades on this morning and will connect it up this afternoon and then next week cut the grass around the field and I will do mowing around front of property with my little petrol and electric mowers.
Hope all goes ok with Margaret next week David and glad she is making progress.
@DEBSC enjoy your short break in your caravan and hole all ok with it and with your upcoming treatment and take care.
Had a lovely meal with friends for their birthdays on Thursday excellent food and it was very busy at a local Hotel every table occupied even sitting outside, then we stayed at their house as car work was going to be done yesterday but a change once menfolk realised a lot harder to do so now booked into a local garage to be done even though our friend had the parts already which helps, so OH did some computer work for our friends as they are not doing wifi at the B&B this year as they got charged for some items that guests used last year and not cheap as they only use the mobile network as they do not have a landline anymore.
Have a good weekend folks.

We left home late yesterday afternoon and made the short tow to Strathclyde Park club site for the night Then today made the journey down here to the Yorkshire coast lovely weather all the way down and the roads were quiet took us almost 5 hours though. Got all set up and also put the awning up as we are here a few days first time weโve used it since we were in Somerset last July. Ended up just getting dinner from the chip shop in the village. Site surprisingly not busy considering itโs nice weather. Not doing much tonight just have a few drinks in the van and plan what we want to do while we are in the area.
Hope everyone else is having a nice weekend

You've hit on some good weather @Francis. Enjoy your break.
We were trying to get our van ready for a few days away next week. Thwarted in the main by good intentioned neighbours with and without dogs and/or children in tow. Good to have a natter or two and we'll try again tomorrow.
Hope people who are away having a good time and those at home can at least make the most of it.

I managed to get a photo of the Austin today.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6035433/uploads/NTMXADB9OI6S/20250405-084038.jpgIt started off rather cloudy this morning but soon brightened up although it stayed chilly in the shade. Visited Woolaston Manor, Sir Isaac Newton home, this morning and then onto Easton Walled Garden in the afternoon. Both interesting places in their own way.

@nelliethehooker love the car great to see these old things still getting used

Hope the fine weather continues for your stay in Yorkshire, @Francis and you have an enjoyable stay.
Fingers crossed that you have no problems on the road to Dartmouth, @richardandros I think the A 379, road from Dartmouth to the site are also rather narrow in places. We stopped at Slapton Sands and used the bus to get to Dartmouth and it was "interesting" in that the lady driver had to reverse it a couple of times for oncoming traffic!๐ Have a good time at NYM, a site we like.
Best of luck with getting The Van ready for your trip next week @Wherenext, you will just have to keep a weathered eye out so as to avoid further interruptions!๐
Enjoy your afternoon tea, and your stay too, at Stamford Hall, @DSB

Thanks @nelliethehooker - I'll try and put up some photos, but can't promose they'll be as good ss yours! ๐

Much like myself @Francis although I think the Austin is wearing its age better than myself.๐
Just having a coffee after giving the van a good washing after next doors builders had cut some flags on their drive the other day and we copped for the dust and grime.

Weโve. Got up to a lovey sunny day here in Yorkshire clear blue skies when I opened the door this morning the heat from the awning was great. Just sitting out in the awning now with a coffee deciding what we are going to be doing today likely a coastal walk

Where are you @Francis ? I thought it was Bridlington at first, but after looking closer, the layout doesn't seem right?
