@Goldie146 pleased to read that your power is back on. You are much more fortunate than some up at Keswick as their power has been off for 25 hrs, back on and then off again for another few hours.
Hope that you are sorted out by your doctor @richardandros and that you can get out walking again without pain without having to have a hip replacement operation.
Fingers crossed that there are no hitches to delay Margaret's operation, @DavidKlyne

Fine dry day so we were able to get the caravan loaded without any problems or having to dodge any rain showers for our next trip. Two sites booked and just one to sort out when we are away.

@heddlo thank you for asking; I have been listed for a hip replacement, was told probably in 5-6 months, but could be less than that. Now that has been decided it hasn't really sunk in yet, I think I was unsure as to whether it was considered "bad enough" as it were. One thing I wasn't keen on hearing was that it would be done under spinal block and sedation, although there will be a discussion with the anaesthetist beforehand. Of course not having a GA is better, but the thought scares me.
@richardandros Sorry to hear about your hip problems, it comes as a bit of a shock, these things. You think you're fit and well, then something like that happens. Good luck with the blood tests and x-rays.
@DavidKlyne I agree with you, it's totally unpredictable how these things progress. Like Margaret, during '22 and '23 I didn't really have much pain at all, but last year it started to get quite a bit worse. Don't like taking painkillers and I'm not prescribed any at the moment, but do take NSAIDs when necessary. Not long until Margaret's op now, I wish her all the best. No doubt you'll keep us all informed.

@InaD Glad to hear you have had a result about your operation. The thought is often worse than reality I find. I was also unsure about the spinal block but I did have it and it was actually fine for me. I found that I was asleep really and the anaesthetist appeared to wake me at one point and asked if I was comfortable, other than that I remember nothing about it until I was in the recovery room. Also I had none of the reactions that I had previously experienced with a general.

@heddlo Thank you for that, that's reassuring to hear from someone who has experienced it, I appreciate that. Yes, I was told the sedation works very well, so it sounds like it's not that scary. I understand that there are more risks with a GA, I was told that 95% of patients have the spinal block. I was just a bit "thrown" when I was told that, didn't expect that. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Well, it sounds like we have escaped some pretty awful weather over the last few weeks. Sorry to hear of fellow CTers maladies but we have found the climate here in CR very agreeable for this aches and pains older age brings. As a means of cheer here are a few photos.

@InaD I think spinal blocks are quite common with hip, and probably knee replacement operations. I had one when I had my hip done. My worry was that I would be awake during the operation which I wasn't so keen on but they give you a sedative and I don't remember even going into the operating theatre, or coming out!
With regard to pain before the operation it obviously does get worse the longer you go before the operation. My problem was not so much the pain but the fact that I was seriously lop sided when I walked, completely restored to normal after the operation I am pleased to report!

Didn't realise that hip problems were such an issue for many of us on here. Says a lot about the age profile of a lot of CT members! Hope your op goes well @InaD and also that Margaret is soon on the mend @DavidKlyne. Best wishes from us.

Hips, shoulders, knees and backs seem to be a common problem on here at the moment. Carol has had an appointment at the pain clinic - I think they are going to try to give her a TENS machine. Fortunately she has an orthopaedic appointment on the same day - were hoping she'll be added to the surgery list. Good wishes to all those who are having difficulties...

Lovely day here. Had a couple of hours early morning digging some plants out, left OH starting on hedge. Going to be a big job, but we are on with it now. Up at Mum’s at the moment, hoping to get back early to get more done in my garden. Glad you made CR Micky, hope you have a lovely time.

Nothing much happening here, supposed to have been sunshine and occasional clouds but a heavy rainfall after 12.
Tomorrow is suppose to be sunny so a trip out somewhere.

I have been taking these pain killers for a week now and today things feel much better, though my right wrist and hand are still slightly swollen.
OH had a telephone appointment with Orthopaedics last week and was advised they needed up to date X rays of her neck and hands, and that her knees should also be x rayed. She was asked to visit our GP to get x rays arranged, so did that yesterday and we went straight down to the hospital afterwards. No sure why the orthopaedic person could not request the x rays directly.
Having battled through all the roadworks delays, luckily found a parking space at the hospital, and finally found our way to the x ray department, after about 25 minutes a nurse came and told OH that the radiologist said the x rays were “not justified” and how long were we willing to wait. Apparently they had to contact our GP before anything could happen, and that could take a while.
Having gone all the way there we decided to stay till they sorted it, which took about 30 minutes, so not that long. The problem was that the radiologist reckoned she needed more “history “ before more x rays could be done, which presumably the GP provided. Several x rays were then done, but while doing the last knee ones OH was manually moved into the position needed for the x ray and this was very painful. She could hardly walk afterwards.
Only slightly better today, even after taking painkillers she is hobbling around and the affected knee keeps “giving way”. Think we will need to organise a walking stick or something for her if this continues.
GP said she could see that walking was painful, mentioned knee replacement, and suggested physio meantime.

@DavidKlyne Thank you for your reassuring post re spinal block. I suppose I'd never given that a thought and just assumed it would be done under GA. But from what both you and heddlo have experienced, the happy juice seems to do the trick very well! It has helped to read others' experiences and I appreciate it.

We had a lovely lunch out with my cousin and her hubby today. The pub wasn't that busy so we were able to linger and time flew. Tbh we both needed a release valve. It's like "Whack-a-mole" here with problems. Solve one and another appears. Same as today. Felt brilliant then got home to an email that will mean more angst. Will deal with it tomorrow.
Decided we need a night away so will try to get away on Friday as we have an appointment late afternoon tomorrow. Just head down the Welsh coast somewhere probably.

We had a nice day in Stamford today. It is my birthday on Monday so we had an early celebration. OH bought me my birthday present and we had a lovely lunch at the oldest building in Stamford dating back to the 13th century. Apparently there used to be a bell foundary there. It really is a lovely old building. The family are coming over on Sunday. Lovely sunny weather here today and warmer than recently.
I hope all those with hip, knee and other problems get them sorted out soon.

@Wherenext hope you are able to sort out the problem that the email has raised, and you are able to get away on Friday. We are now away and staying on a new to us CL near Chorley. Just figuring out the best way to manage on 6 amps!! It has been a lovely sunny day with a beautiful red sky this evening, with a clear sky tonight and frost already on the car!
