What are you all up to

It's been a long day here, unusually for us, we have been up since 7am. Left the house at 8am to take the Smart for service and MOT.
Once we had delivered the car, we went to DD's to feed the budgies and install her new dehumidifiers. Having only preciously lived in dry modern houses, their present place is giving them a few problems with moisture. Not damp as such, but high humidity, not helped by the lack of a decent kitchen extractor, and probably insufficient bathroom extraction, added to by a condenser tumble drier.
She has a big dehumidifier, which works well, but the property is sprawling so it cannot deal with all areas. We have got her 3 smaller ones so she can place them in the most problematical areas, and use the big one in the kitchen/living room. She also has a tiny one that is just for the cloakroom by the front door as it has an original single glazed round window.
West of Scotland is a damp place, so hopefully they will help. Various doors keep swelling up and not shutting properly, plus one window, Nathan's bedroom, that is north facing is always running with condensation.
All the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, so that does not help, even though they all have extractor fans.
She plans to get a new, vented drier, once funds allow, but that could be a while.
We will be back there on Wednesday to check on how they are doing.
After that we headed home and started on my tax return. That took a while. Not difficult to fill in, but first I had to gather all the figures. Finally got it done by 3pm.
Car was fine and sailed through the MOT, so picked it up at 4.15 and were home by 5.00. Now off to my Zoom woodturners meeting.

Another lovely Autumn day here, so the females headed off for a day out. Drove over to Castleton, up Winnats Pass, parked up under Mam Tor for a picnic. Lovely views, then back down in Castleton for a walk around. Wasn’t as busy as I thought it might be. A few shops have closed down, but most of the pubs seem to be thriving. No chance of getting a 93 year old down a Cavern, or up to the castle😂 A nice day though, and topped off by OH presenting us with a nice meal on our return.
Mam Tor, the Shivering Mountain.
Lose Hill and the Skyline Walk.

We’ve had a wonderful day today such great weather for October. We took a drive across to Llandudno and took a drive up the Great Orme the views were stunning not a cloud in sight and it actually wasn’t too busy we have been up there many times but that doesn’t take away from the beauty of the place. After that we parked down at the waterfront and took a walk along the pier and got a pint from the bar/cafe at the end and sat out in the sun couldn’t believe it is October felt more like August. After that SWMBO had a quick walk around the shops then we made our way back to the caravan where the chip van was on site so that was dinner sorted and no dishes to do either. Now just sitting at the van with a beer watching the TV. Not sure what the plan is tomorrow will see what the weather is like in the morning

Great photos TDA. That sounds a wonderful day. You also sound as though you had a good day as well Francis.
After a very cold start we had a wonderful day as well. 3 lovely friends picked me up and we went to a garden centre for a coffee and a good long catch up while OH carried on clearing the garden.

Glad the ladies, and you too, WN are having a lovely time over in Norfolk.
Lovely photos, tda, certainly looks like a beautiful day in the Peak District. Good to read that you all had a pleasant day out there.
Hope everything went well with the inspection after all your hard work, Goldie.
Looks as if you've had another busy day, Kjell. Have you any plans for a final trip away in your van this year, so as to get some rest?

Another fine day down here. Drove the short distance to Cotehele House then walked down to the Quay and around to the Mill. After lunch visited the house and wandered around the gardens. It was surprising how many of the plants were still in bloom. Another clear sky tonight, but I guess we are too far south to see the Northern Lights, however Jupitor is still bright in the sky and the moon an orange crescent.

Hazy cloud cover so can't see Jupiter Nellie. I'm sure it's out there somewhere though.

I think there must be something wrong with MiL. She's been in 2 Joules stores today and come out empty handed. Mind you it wasn't through a lack of effort.
It says something about her spirit that she was looking at outfits for her holiday, probably abroad, next year.2 -
Unfortunately not nellie. This week we are clearing a bathroom ready for a refit, plus on Friday we have to retrieve the holidaymakers.
Next week we have the builders coming do do the refit, probably take a week or so, then I am finishing it off myself with a new countertop, and basin, after I refit the "furniture", then I will have a little tiling to finish. And the floor to lay.
We also have someone coming to pigeon proof our solar panels, plus we hope the boiler man will be coming to give us a quote for a new boiler, which will hopefully be done as soon as he can fit us in. And I am visiting the dentist as I have lost a filling.
Following that we both have optician appointments, then a couple of weeks later I have a check up with the doc, and am hopefully going to a craft fair to sell some of my turned items.
In between all that, DD is coming to help me clear out our garage, and then she has a load more stuff for me to do. Before we know it, it will be Christmas, which we will spend with our son and family, while it is the in-laws turn to have DD and family with them.
What with the new bathroom, a new boiler, possible new glasses, dental work, the car service today, and the insurance on both cars renewing this month, and then Christmas.........I think we need to stay home for a bit and rebuild the bank balance!!
Christmas will be restful as DS will be ordering the food and doing the cooking.

Anybody proposing to trundle around south central Cheshire will be well advised to check on road works over the next few days ! The A534 between Tarporley & Nantwich was blocked by road works today, Monday 11th, so loads of HGV's using the side roads to and through Aston etc just to polish their skills & trim the occasional hedge !!

Same for anyone using the A303, dualling work has now started east of Ilchester.
Another nice day here but quite chilly.
Good to read of holidays going well and see such beautiful photos TDA, the air has been very clear. We had a short stroll round Montacute yesterday, surprisingly busy for a Monday morning!
Anyone seen the Northern Lights?! It used to be a joke with my Dad, being brought up in Ontario it was a regular feature. 😊 (seems that some might have caught a glimpse in the north, too soon for our trip up there.)

Our Organic and Red Tractor inspections went well yesterday. I think it helps when the sun is shining and most of the stock is outside. And feeding the inspector.
Most of the afternoon was spent producing relevant bits of paper and computer records etc. For example, the inspector looks through the Vet bills, picks a drug bought back in February and quotes me the batch number. Then asks when it was used, which animal, why, who gave it, dosage and if there was a withdrawal period when would the milk and/or meat be fit for human consumption (2 different sets of dates, for organic and non organic regulations). Thanks to my “brilliant” reporting tool it just takes a couple of clicks of the mouse. It helps that I was a Data Analysis in a former life. That was when I was to work!
Back to normal today. Only 5 for dinner and a stack of files to return to whence they came.

Glad things went well Goldie👍 A big commitment farming as you do, nice to transfer those skills😁
Well, what a contrast here today after the beautiful day yesterday. I have finally succumbed and am wearing trousers for first time in months. Temperature has plummeted, and we have had rain. Haircut for me today, then not quite sure🤔 Get MH sorted out I think, ready for next trip.

Another good day today we went in to Liverpool. Got parked in a multi storey in the city centre got parked up and it took us around 10 mins to find the way out lol up and down the stairs three times until we gave up and just went Back down and walked out the car exit. Visited the Western Approaches museum which was excellent telling the story of secret work that went on during the war it’s very well preserved and one of the staff were telling us they are discovering other rooms all the time they reckon there are many parts of the building that’s not been discovered yet.
In the afternoon we took a walk around the Albert Dock and in to the Liverpool Museum free entry and it was excellent very interesting. Both museums are well worth a visit for anyone who happens to be in the area. On the way back to the site we popped in to The Bridge Inn at Port Sunlight for a meal as always it was excellent one of our favourite place to go good food good beer and a fair price. Weather hasn’t been great today but still a great day. Site has got very busy again

As this is MiLs holiday we asked her what she wanted to do most and where she wanted to go if she had any prefernces. Not many to be fair. She tends to trust we'll (as in the Royal we) sort it out. However one place she definitely wanted to visit was to Sandringham House and Gardens. She'd never set foot inside on the one previous visit she and hubby made as she was married to a Republican.
So off we set. We all enjoyed the walk through the woodland garden and then "ogled", some of us less than a certain one, the living quarters for Her Maj. I think ER has gone up in her estimation but we know she really enjoyed it. How can you not when you are a Professional Nosey Person (PNP)?

Anyway we also got to see inside the Church, a bit OTT for my taste.
The weather behaved itself as well.
Off to lunch with friends tomorrow.
Well done Goldie. I dare say a weight of your mind until next year at least.

Good to read that that all went well with the inspection, Goldie. Well done.
Nice day out for you all at Sandringham, WN.
Liverpool Museum is somewhere I'd like to visit some time, Francis,. Pleased to hear that you had a good day all round.
Another fine day for us but not as sunny as yesterday. Drove up to Minions and walked the trackway around Stowe's Hill then up to The Cheesewringer stones. Picnic lunch then back through the Hurlers stone circles and around the remains of the South Pheonix mine's engine houses. Called in at Aldi in Liskeard to restock provisions. A beautiful red sunset and a clear sky again.

Sandringham is worth a visit, when we went we didn't get enough time to explore the grounds as we were spending so much time as PNPs...

Today we had muck spreading, the field behind us has been trurned black with the stuff and I had to go inside as it was coming over our hedge in delightful chunks..the smell has permeated everything. The village will be going to bed well fertilised...no jokes please.

Sandringham have definitely 'upped their game' as far as visitors are concerned in recent years. We were very disappointed when we took our eldest grand-daughter many years ago as we saw very little. However when we went 2 years ago we had a wonderful time being PNPs. OH loves all the cars. I think the church is wonderful - yes very OTT but the altar is amazing.
Well done Goldie. That is a weight off your mind.
Dull and chilly today. Washing out and then back in again because it was drizzly. We went to our Museum Society meeting this evening, the first time 'in person' since Feb 2020 as they were all on Zoom last year. Everyone wore their masks and the windows were open.

think your right Millie, we went back about 3 years ago and the first sitting room was a delight HM’s jigsaw on a table with glass over it so we visitors couldn’t add pieces to it. I think the real highlight was chatting to the room guide, he was knowledgeable and humorous

Delighted to hear that all went well for your inspection[s] Goldie. Do you get instant results or do you have to wait for the ( inevitable ? ) big brown paper envelope ??
And tomorrow -- I knew I should have gone to Specsavers -- Routine eye test & separate Retinopathy tests so no driving for Brian !!

I took Mum and Dad to Sandringham a few years ago, another set of PNP’s🤣 Very enjoyable visit, especially the Museum and the Cartoon collection (if it is still there) we didn’t get to see the Church on our visit.
Guessing you aren’t far from Bodmin Moor Nellie. Some very interesting churches on the moor, Altarnun and Warleggan we enjoyed. Many years ago, Prince Charles owned a shop in Liskeard, called Ough’s. Lovely old fashioned deli, sadly I think it closed down, but the shop premises are still there.
I hope the muck was animal and not human slurry Brue!😱
Haircut and motorhome cleaning for me today. OH has thrown me a left fielder, and decided his birthday needs to be spent in North Wales this year, so I am planning a tour around big Welsh Castles, some other historic sites open in December. What to see first, where to stay second. Anyone care to recommend a CL/small site on Anglesey for a night, not far from Beaumaris, would be a help. 👍

I agree about some of the room stewards Oneputt. Sandringham is a member of HHA now. I wonder if that has made the difference?

We find out as we go along - anything "not up to standard" is pointed out, and if necessary you get an Action Summary Form that tells you what evidence you need to supply to show what you've done. Everything is recorded online, and we were lucky as later that evening our super fast super reliant internet went down. A neighbouring farm was ploughing a bit too deep.

More paperwork this morning. Every time we move an animal it's recorded at BCMS (British Cattle Movement Service), and it's passport gets passed onto the new owner.
Tomorrow 4 bull calves will go to the local auction, to be bought and reared and enter the food chain. We don't have a beef enterprise.
And four milk cows will travel a bit farther to another organic Dairy Shorthorn breeder, who likes our stock and has bought off us before, and is building up their herd. They take a few more bits of paper with them to prove their pedigree and status etc.
Now, it's time to get dinner on the go!

MH wrote " OH loves all the cars."
We went to Sandringham a couple of weeks ago. Rain was tipping down so we scuttled from the house to the church and then back to the Moho. I presume the stables contain the aforementioned cars. Looks like I failed to get my twenty quids worth.
0 -
Yes, I think you did CY!! The cars are in the stable block.
1 -
You did indeed😁 The Museum is very good, lots of interesting vehicles and automobilia along with other exhibits. Was the cartoon gallery still there? Think it was one of last rooms as you left the house. Giles Royalty cartoons a lot of them.

Still gasping for breath here, muck spreading continues apace. Nearby dairy farm doing this, they grow their own feed etc I expect this will be ploughed in soon and a feed crop planted. The milk goes into local cheddar cheese and a few acres are let for Burt's Crisps potatoes. They have sheep too, the sheep have already manured this field. We have sandy soil and nutrients vanish quickly, in the age of dinosaurs this area was a warm sea bed...🐙

Successful trip to city centre (westgate) 1hr 15mins ,following railway line(my word things have changed since last time on the same route)

Came back via River and had lunch in the pub near rowing club, No times as pub stop got in the way

Battery on OHs buggy held up still in the green zone on arrival back at site,

The cartoons are still there but no cars on display so I think they must have put them away for the season. They close on Friday for the winter for entry to house and gardens.
The new car parking arrangements are by PNR and it's free if buying an entry ticket to house but, and a big but, HHA members still have to pay regardless. We obtained entry by being members so saved quite a few pounds and I didn't notice that we had to pay for parking. However the very nice receptionist kindly let us off.😂
