What are you all up to

Yes, I guessed it would be the non arrival of papers but was hoping they packed through the day so that later orders might be ok. It's a bit like being in the north of Scotland or Orkney where papers are often a day late so I shouldn't really expect too much.
Slightly bonkers as I have to pay for my i but can get my neighbour's Mail for free...the i is the only paper which isn't free.
On the whole the system is ok and Waitrose is our nearest supermarket, not a big one either. We drove past Asda this morning and it was heaving yet again, I can't think why people want to join in such a scrum at present.
I always used Tesco deliveries when I was working but couldn't get on their list during Covid. Very glad to have whatever is on offer!
Just about to take the delivery now...better go!

I was talking to the driver today and he said they often have the papers arriving late which causes the problem, their first delivery is around 7.00am. He said an afternoon delivery is best if you want to guarantee a newspaper. Whether we are creatures of habit but we have our delivery about the same time as we would leave to shop in Waitrose personally. I miss my weekly read of the Guardian if it fails to materialise and that is also free! At the moment supermarkets are not encouraging couples to shop at the same time so when that restriction ends we will probably venture into the shop just to see what we have been missing. I think online is fine for all the regular items but I think we miss out on new introductions. We also miss the service counters. The big question is, will we carry on with deliveries once COVID is over/controlled? I think we may but probably a mix of the two.

David. Our deliveries are at fairly random times, I'm always guessing whether if I leave it late I met get a paper but not a bakery item. Probably can't win.
I will continue with the deliveries as this was my plan, I do like to look around shops in general but not on a regular basis. We're the opposite, we're not creatures of habit normally. And I usually do food shopping on my own. As I said our Waitrose is small so doesn't have much in the way of counters and has a very pared down "coffee area" not somewhere to linger.
As for papers, it was always a Saturday i for me, from our local Co-op, (two villages away.) We called in there today and got the paper and a lego comic for youngest grandson, we send a small packet to him every few weeks. Our PO says that lots of grandparents in the village are posting lockdown comics and small packets of sweets, we're all as daft as each other!!

I know I can read the paper on line but it's just not the same as picking it up and putting it down during the day and it's easier on my eyesight.

Much better weather today - yesterday was torrential wind and rain all day. Today it's just showers and a strong breeeze.
It didn't bother me yesterday as I was busy setting up my new laptop. I've been considering getting one since about last November. And on Monday my husband got so fed up of my endless camparing of models and wondering about the cost - he said "just get one!".
One of the reasons for the new investment (apart from the old one being slower than this website) was so we can watch Zoom and other onlne stuff from the confort of the settee. Previoulsy we used the Desktop, with one of us on the creaky office chair, and the other on a dining chair. A good large screen and decent speakers - but not the best for a long event.
The first real test of the new laptop will be Virtual Bingo on Saturday night, via Zoom, in aid of RABI. I'm not sure how it's going to work. There's even a raffle.
It's a large screen and fast, so should work out OK.

I woke up when our bin crashed over at about 2.30 and went back to sleep about 5ish for an hour. Will feel it tonight. Be nodding off before 8.
Still gusty but dry this morning so we ventured out for a breath of fresh air, a bit of an understatement. Had a decent 2 hour stroll in the dry, amazing.
Filled in the census online. First brown bin collection tomorrow.
Looks like we may have lost our Rosemary bush. One of the best smells ever. We'll have to replace it if we can't salvage it.

Fingers crossed for the Rosemary🤞I am going to get a Rosemary plant and turn it into a tree, bit more ornamental. Have two big bushes at the moment, one is prostrate kind, gets too dusty to use in cooking, but I do cut it for floral arrangements. Smells divine as you say😁

I love rosemary bushes as well we we moved here there was a large on and I put in 2 smaller bushes now all gone thanks to the rosemary beetle it also attacks lavender and salvia.
We have been shopping today a lot of folk about but all being sensible with distance and wearing masks, although we saw a lot dropped on the floors of carparks grr, got back unpacked everything and I went to move some plants I had bought only for the wind to pick up speed and start raining now awful outside.

I don't know what is happening with all the new avatars ABM, every time I switch on they change, either reverting back to old ones, or blanks like yours or a mix of both. I feel as if I'm in an ever changing picture gallery!
(Whatever I do to fix the problem, it doesn't work the next time round.)0 -
Oh dear, brue, mine is the basic 'chalk man' 'cos I am toooo thick to do anything about it, BUT the recent changes of Yours, Goldies, TtDA and others changed after the second prod of my keyboard's F5 and have stayed there, no probs
Could it be that MY prod is more of a threat to the keyboard than yours, perhaps !0 -
Battled it out with the weather this morning, raging seas, trees down, but brilliant sunshine, now battling it out with the decorators, they are doing a stirling job, just dont like the upheaval, everything covered with dust covers, smelling of paint, although the new stuff the decorators tell me is not so bad now, my nose must be ultra sentitive
, they say they will be finished by next Wednesday, hope so Will be in West Bay around the 4th of May Millie, not a great place but there is just something about it that i like, love browsing round the antique section and weather permitting we do sometimes walk down from the site for a meal or maybe just a drink in the evening. We are there for 2 weeks, great base for touring the area and lots of different places to visit within easy reach and there is a great Market in Bridport. Used to use Bingham Grange site, but not since the club bought it.

The weather has improved as the day has gone on. Now there is still a stiff breeze and occasional heavy showers but nice sunshine in between. A friend contacted me to tell me that she had dug up and divided some of her numerous snowdrops did I want some? Yes please! So popped round there this morning and had a brief and very windy chat in her front garden and then planted them out under our new cherry tree this afternoon in between the showers. Looking forward to (hopefully) a nice display next Jan/Feb.
Peterborough Cathedral are putting on a zoom lecture tonight by one of the excellent guides about the women who are commemorated in the Cathedral to mark International Women's Day. Looking forward to it.
As regards shopping I had been getting online deliveries from Morrisons but now that Aldi are doing click and collect I am now using them. It is so quick and easy and the lovely staff always put the shopping in the car boot so minimal contact. OH walks to our small local shop for the paper every day. He couldn't manage without his paper!
I am getting different avatars on different devices. I am now not at all sure who I am talking to!

Rufs, My cousin and his wife live in a little village near Bridport. It is a lovely area. They used to live in Stevenage when he was in the Police force but wanted a complete change when he retired. We love visiting Abbotsbury Botanic gardens with them.

So I guess I won't be seeing you at Altnahara any time soon then, MillieH. Well it is only 25 or so miles to the shops in Lairg, and about the same to Bettyhill. This means, of course, that should choice 1 be sold out then there could be a 100 mile round trip to get the latest crosswords

Guess we've been fortunate here with the weather today, as we've appeared to have missed the high winds. It stayed fair for most of the day, but I did get caught in a shower just as I was getting home from our afternoon walk. Of course it brightened up 5 minutes after getting into the house.

Weather has been mixed here today. Some sunshine, some rain, some hail. Really looking forward to being able to get the Cadac out in the back garden.... and, if course, to getting the caravan out.... hopefully soon after April 12th.
Spent some of the day building some IKEA furniture for the Conservatory. I've always been pleased with the stuff we've had from IKEA..... no nonsense, economical, fairly comfortable, and looks reasonably good.

Listening to our local news last night we have had Covid outbreaks and losses in care homes where the residents had been vaccinated. It brings it home how virulent this disease is and opening up things on the 12th is going to need a great deal of care.
0 -
That's the problem. The vaccine doesn't promise 100% immunity and with the number of people being vaccinated you are going to get cases where it just doesn't give enough immunity to a very vunerable person.
The bigger problem comes, IMO, when vaccinated people think that it does give them full protection and behave accordingly and differently from their previous guarded way.
Sad to hear though Brue.

Joyful day here in Wherenext Towers. Mrs WN received a phone call from hairdressers for appointment next week and we've been given green light to start caravanning again in Wales from 28th.March. Think I'll leave it until after Easter.
Also glad to see Garden Centres to open again in next 10 days or so.
A blustery walk this morning but in the dry. Cobwebs well and truly blown away.

I'm glad the Engish Easter hols have been curbed as we 've had a rise in cases in the SW and I just hope things settle down again.
That said I'm pleased to hear that some 50yr olds in our family our now getting their first jabs.
Have been in the greenhouse this morning, getting seeds sorted, just doing a bit each day. Still blustery but nice spells of sunshine.

WN, good news for the WN household indeed. We can now meet 2 others outdoors. That's about it for now but possibly more news next week. Numbers in Scotland have risen slightly since the begining of the week, while hospital numbers have done down.
Read something this morning about France opening up to certain countries outside the EU bloc, one of them is Britain. Seems strange given their numbers have risen.
Mixed day here rain showers one minute sun the next, bitterly cold wind.
OH has an appointment for Wednesday to go and see his Mum. They are not doing them at weekends so it will be drop off with card, flowers and chocs for MD.
Busy making things again or should I say remaking. The seat back rests we made for the MH we have altered them. I've also made cloth drawstring bags for the duvets in both vans. I don't like to put them away with just the duvet cover on them as they could get marks on them, so used a couple of pillowcases and turned them into bags. All saucepans and fry pan are now in bags too, stops them rattling and keeps them from getting marked/rubbed.
Managed to pick up 4 new duvet covers from Tesco yesterday in the sale, £2.95 each. They are just perfect for the vans being single ones. Can't pass up a bargain like that.

A blustery day here but did manage to put a few plants in before the next shower OH now outside changing brake pads on the Landcrusier and the next shower came over but moved a bit further south thankfully he had a look at the back brake pads they are ok so doing the front ones instead they only arrived at 11am so he wants to get them done men and machines comes to mind but having done a lot of mechanics over the years with Landrovers he is ok with smaller car jobs.
A good bargain buy TG with duvet covers I have done that in the past just doing a bit of grocery shopping and heyho bargains in the bedding department.
Off to see friends on Sunday for lunch as they have being isolating for a week since coming back from UK and all the paperwork that my OH sorted out for them worked they had one test in UK and have had another test today here doing things properly not like their neighbour who down from Holland a couple of weeks ago no tests no isolation and thinks we are being to fussy, no comment and does not like wearing a mask either.
Our friends said there was two other caravans on the ferry plus 1 motorhome and quite a few cars but mostly lorries.
Campsites over here that open early are open and we thought they might be closed so no restriction here a bit strange not that we are going anywhere until the jabs have been done.

A bright and sunny day so a trip along the river side to Sunderland. Quite busy on the sea front with the two cafes doing a good trade. I choose the cafe with the shorter queue but ended up with a toasted smoked salmon and sour cream cheese bagel with capers. All I wanted was a bacon butty!
Still I have to say it was really very nice!

Good day today. As it is now officially allowed I met our daughter for a very blustery walk and a take away coffee. Hadnt seen her for a proper chat since December. As she looks after our great grandson on Fridays I saw him as well. He showed off his new skill of walking to me and was very pleased with himself. It was so lovely to see them both. Daughter than rang an hour after getting home to say she had just received a text about her covid jab and has an appt for tomorrow. She is 52 so they are working their way through the age groups pretty swiftly. I am pleased that the working population are now getting vaccinated. So sad about the deaths in care homes. I can only assume that some of them hadnt had their second dose. Also have all the care home staff been vaccinated?
Very blustery wind today but no rain - yet and some nice sunny spells. That wind is very cold though.
I have done some seed sorting as well brue. I seem to have accumulated lots of free packets of seeds from gardening magazines. I am hoping the weather next week will be better and entice me out in the garden a bit more.
Lovely photos corners.

I don't know as living in Wales I tend to be parochial when it comes to restrictions but having read the BBC website about the UK's differing restrictions I do find it annoying when they report that when Holiday restrictions are lifted on 12th.April that it will apply to taking a self contained holiday with members of your own family in the UK. Whilst it will be possible for English residents to do this in England and Wales my understanding is that it won't be possible in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
Is it bad reporting from the BBC or poor communication from Government?

Millieh, oh It is so good to watch the Tiny ones start the long journey from babyhood to being a distinct little person isn't it
Rather similar to those teenyweeny seeds just popped onto the compost slowly, oh so very slowly, turning into great big bushes and providing homes / food for all Natures entrancing creatures ( even the ones that sting, stink and suchlike
)There got that lot out of my system after the lunchtime torment
. Had a non-too-good visit to Phlebotomy today. Had to stand in a queue outside in the occasional hail shower, until my appointed time. When I got in It was not a good time for ABM 'cos, firstly, I had the ladies name wrong - it was not Aby, it was, and still is, Angie and she is on a 12 month over-due list for a new hip. Then my time outside in the c-c-cold had caused the blood to be reluctant to come forth & fill the relevant number of phials
so now I've got three (3) jab holes to heal -- ouch.Possibly all due to my having seen a crate with five empty bottles outside the surgery door { Gawd I hope they don't expect me to give that much in one go
} At least the crikit is entertaining enough today.0
