Brue we had to do a tour of the site of the Fotheringhay Castle last time son and family were over from NI. Grandson wanted to find the spot where MQofS was beheaded and also where her entrails are buried - blood thirsty little soul!! As son was an archaeologist in a previous life he walked round the site with a plan and map and made an educated guess as to where she was beheaded but as to her entrails who knows?!

i've just done some reading on plum trees, it seems my soil type, which is poor draining heavy clay would be a big problem. I'll investigate a bit further and maybe different fruit trees.

Yes I know what you mean brue. Some places are just so special, so full of history. Fotheringhay Church does it for me, but Tewkesbury Abbey is another place. I have been fortunate enough to see the plate armour that lines the inside of the sacristy in there, complete with the square arrow head piercings......very chilling, sends a shudder down your spine. There’s a few infamous characters buried in there as well, Clarence, he of the “butt of malmsey”, Hugh Despenser the Younger, and of course Prince Edward.
Love our early history, 1066 right through to death of Elizabeth I. All downhill for me after that. War of the Roses era is my favourite period.
Exciting week here just keeps on giving....scaffolding down, last nights power cut, deciding which new bar of soap to have in bathroom, and it’s the dog’s birthday tomorrow🥳 He’s in a bubble with his Grandma and Aunty, so a fish supper is planned. Pooch can have a sausage if he’s a good boy. Then it’s present opening, a squeaky banana, although we know he will find the wrapping paper more interesting......😂

It can get very grisly indeed Millie😁 Eleanor of Castile is given as having two burial places. Her innards are in a chest tomb in Lincoln Cathedral, but after going on tour (Eleanor Crosses) her cadaver is in Westminster Abbey.😱
My favourite person from history is buried in Lincoln Cathedral .......Katherine Swynford.

I don't do "grisly" TDA I find some places have got a bit too much atmosphere!

I'm fond of some places, Tewkesbury I like a lot, I had ancestors just over the river. I looked up the details you mentioned and the Sacristry door covered in horse armour from the Battle of Tewkesbury.

I read and re-read Anya Seton's book about Katherine when I was in my teens. I still have the very tatty copy somewhere. Such a wonderful love story. When a group of us went to Lincoln when I was doing a Medieval history course many years ago the first thing some of us (mostly the female members if the group) wanted to see was where Katherine was buried. It drove the tutor mad!

Interesting day here!!!!
Weather wise it's rained virtually all day arghh After our morning walk I went along to our local hospital to have my stitches out...there and back in about an hour, so pleased with that.
Took Flyte our for our afternoon walk at 3:00 got nearly home about 3:45 and was stopped by police tape from going 100yds to our house. Eventually was allowed through escorted by police officer. There were 3 fire engines and 4 police vehicles along the road. There are, over 4 hours later, still 2 fire tenders, a fire support vehicle, 3 police vehicles and a forensic van parked up. It looks like a major incident at a semi bungalow 4 doors up from our house.Edit
They have just now started to roll up the tapes and let traffic pass through again, and most of the emergency vehicles have gone.

OH did have an old copy too, but it fell to bits!! She now has a copy on kindle.

Yes, it’s a good read. Amazing really given all they went through that they ended up married. I have Alison Weir’s more studious biography as well. Can recommend it. We did a bit of exploring round Lincoln based on locations associated with her and John of Gaunt. There’s next to nothing left of Kettlewell Manor, but Bolingbroke Castle is still there, very ruinous. Nice place for a quiet picnic, not many visitors. Then of course, there is Kenilworth Castle. So much history there.
Brue, I can be a very determined explorer when on the trail of something. I knew the armour was in there, and as I walked past the Sacristy door, it was slightly open and I could hear voices inside, so much to my OH ‘s horror, I knocked and popped my head round corner. Church officials were most amused that I had found it, and rather pleased to show it off. It’s the holes in it that are so memorable and chilling. I found Clarence as well, he and his wife are down in a crypt behind the altar. Couldn’t get in there though🙂

Me too, on Kobo. And I got the talking book, unabridged version for just 99p. It was out of print at one time, not sure if you can get it now.😁

Quite agree MillieH, and the dozy old batt now knows my views, so strongly put that Alfie Cat cowered on the settee for a few minutes before settling down again, well he did see me building a pile of cat treats on the kitchen table, so he would calm down swiftly !
More importantly to yours truly, I got to Vax Point just at the time quoted to be told where to park & what to do. Parked up ok, saw the Marshall { Mr Dillon I think it was } then told to move to the 'ready use carpark ' and stand in the queue in the light drizzle for five minutes. Moved along like good little obedient children, into the library ( all socially distanced & masked ) then got the 2 minute grilling, two more mins and into a vax point.
Nurse (?) checked my details, gave me the Drill ( Do you have / suffer from blah blah blah Just a little scratch , ok now follow the signs, sit in the seated area , read and keep your hand out, Take care of the Pass Card, and in 15 minutes go home & OBEY THE RULES. BIEEEE. ) NEXT !!
Absolutely no problems, even managed to hold my knife & fork ok -- I would have really worried if I had problems eating

Now just 15 days to get the Vax working on my body ( the only thing that will
) then hang on 'til the next call comes !!Take care everybody, Behave & Lets all come out the other side
P.S. Forgot to say that when the Medic first asked who I was, Age, Surgery etc I did say Don't shout out my age, puleese. To this he just replied, why not, I think you are one of the youngest I've had here !! That makes me a little worried about the severity of my Diabetes but I will have to try harder on that

BMy Daughter had the phizer first dose on Tuesday,,Sat for the 15mins to check for reaction? when driving to her next care call had a minor accident when a meals on wheels vehicle reversed out of a side road ,she says she would normally have missed it, but did not realise she was not quite aware of her surroundings
Just a heads up to all who may be driving after the jab

Ps Herts CC are paying for repairs to her car ,to save her NCD

It has not stopped raining here since Tuesday evening ,The ancient spring that was first noticed last year when we had several days of rain has started again and there's now the same as last year a stream that seems as before, is trying to follow its old route down the valley to the river ,but now has to cross a road and get round houses

We have snow, lots of it and it’s still coming down🤗

For grisly tales, a guide at Eilean Donan castle was telling me a bit of the history of a broadsword hung on the wall describing that an unfortunate soul was cut in half, the blade entering at the shoulder and exiting at the thigh. He concluded with the disclaimer "It did nae matter. He was only a Campbell"

Cor Blimey Nellie.
I thought for one minute Mrs Nellie had called in the Bomb Disposal Squad after finding that the cut price goodies from Aldi were way past their Best Before Dates, something like 20 years, and the brandy in the Christmas Puds was beginning to smoulder. 😱😂
What a surprise, it's raining! I've been given my tasks for the day which basically means sorting out things, cleaning windows (inside only) and cooking. Now where did I put that ladder?🤔

Woke to snow here, not that much though. DD says they mainly have slush down in town.
She has been to Ikea for a click and collect, well organised, designated loading bay, no contact with staff, though they forgot her second trolley to start with, fortunately she noticed before leaving, it was the items she had added to the order for us.
May go out later to check on the Guide Hall, worried about frozen pipes.

Very wet and windy earlier on, an alarm clock went off in my head to get a delivery slot so that was sorted v. early!
Now sunny.
OH battling on with the kitchen painting and refurbs. Daughter's partner phoned about their bathroom showing signs of damp and needing repairs...phone advice adminstered.

I've got some sewing jobs done that have been lingering in the background for a couple of years...I'm longing for a break so I can forget to do the rest!! A long way off I think.

Easy meals planned as every surface in the kitchen has been filled with stuff usually on shelves etc.
Hope you've found your skis and sledges in the north?!

It’s deep. And it’s a wonderful way of keeping lots of folks indoors. Lots of stuck cars.

" hope you've found your skis and sledges in the north "

Don't joke like that Brue, a TV report { certainly on NW BBC News } earlier this week shewed a bloke with his dog happily skiing along the f~f~frozen sandy beach at or around Morecambe Bay area I think. Global Warming ?? not on your ****** ( text Deleted User

My Vaccine if you please
( Snooty Sniffle Harrumph, jab indeed
) was given at Crewe Green Road Crewe, what was originally The Teacher Training College, later the Manchester Metropolitan University now its called Buckingham Apollo Campus -- all the same place in the library !! Have to congratulate them for their efficiency despite getting stuck in the outside queue for about four minutes in the rain. { Should YOU need to go there ~~ TAKE A BROLLY
}Pulling off the round a bout there were several folks guiding me to car park, then at the appropriate time, moving me close to the Vax Centre !! All easy peasy, BUT I did notice that The Eagle Bridge multiple surgery on Dunwoody way, by Morrisons in Crewe, now has the signs up for " Vaccine Centre " so it, like the virus itself, does seem to be spreading. Not always the most convenient 'cos a neighbour has to take his very elderly father from his home in Haslington six or so miles each way to the Centre in Alsager ~~ Probably due to the siting of his own doctors surgery.

It's snowed all day up here in the high Pennines from about 7 o'clock this morning.
We had a short walk around the golf course before lunch and then hunkered down. Came home looking like a couple of snowmen, well snowman and snow woman. I think we'll break out a bottle of single malt this evening and start the weekend early.☃️🥃

It has now been reported, in the local rag, that the 82yr old, disabled lady who lived there died in what has been described as a house fire. She lived alone, her husband having died quite a few years ago, and had care workers visit her each day. The weather has been very set and cold today so no one has been out and about, so facts from the grapevine are scarce at the moment. The police are appealing for witnesses, especially a chap who they believed helped but then disappeared.
