My appointment today was just for a check on previous things done, but having done an inspection and an x-ray, I am now booked in for a crown and a small repair, but not till 1st March.
Receptionist said if I go private it can be done sooner......how come?
I declined as I am not in pain.We have not however had any regular check ups, they are only doing the most necessary treatments. OH has not been seen for a year now.

We've still got snow, had a fair bit yesterday, then it rained for a bit then it froze overnight.
OH had a chat with our practice manager yesterday. Turns out our area have not been getting as much vaccine as they should have. Explains why nothing happening. He asked what is happening with our 2 elderly neighbours as they are getting a bit concerned they've not heard anything yet. Turns out they are on the list for a home visit from the community team. OH suggested that maybe someone should call and tell them that and stop them worrying.
The hats that I knitted before Christmas came in handy yesterday, I put them up on the village FB page to see if anyone interested, sold all 5 in no time at all.

We have both started diets this week, my sister and BIL also started one. This weather is not helping as its so bad underfoot to go for a decent walk. So as I need to exercise the house has been getting blitzed from top to bottom

Stay safe everyone.
JV good news on getting a date for vaccine.

Glad to hear that you and your OH have got your jab appointments JVB.
I have seen on the news this evening that Lichfield Cathedral have become a vaccine hub. What a brilliant idea. They all have so much space, several entrances and exits and are usually near the centre of the town. Also that is what the abbeys originally did. They provided a welcome and medical help to the local community. I hope more cathedrals follow suit.
We are bracing ourselves for the possibility of a lot of snow tomorrow. Most unusual for this area.

We still have our old wooden sledge in the garage WN 😁

How very interesting Millie. Lichfield is lovely, very interesting. I believe Cardinal Wolsey stayed there on his last trip up North, shortly before he died. As you say, plenty of space, decent number of exits, and there is a good car park just over the road👍

But we know the first dose gives a high level of immunity which might mean that waiting even longer for the second dose it might be possible to to vaccinate many more people which in itself reduces the prevalence of COVID? This is still probably work in progress but it is a fast moving situation.

Correction, I am confusing Lichfield with Southall Minster. Lichfield is much larger.

Some good friends of ours are lucky enough to live opposite Southwell Minster TDA. After they moved in they had a patio put in at the front of their house so they can sit there and enjoy the lovely view.

Another cold day here. That’s the first coat of emulsion done on the upstairs bedroom so just another coat now then one of the walls need wallpapered so getting there. We will need a carpet not sure when we will be able to get that done hopefully not too long. Just a night in tonight a few beers and the snooker on SWMBO is knitting a jumper for one of the gkids
Hope everyone has a nice weekend

It’s was one of our first days out getting used to new MH. It’s not too far from where we live, and as you know we love churches. Only a day trip, but well worth going to see. I recall the Minster Shop being very good. We have really missed our Winter tours, like to put together something different this time of year. The last church we were in was back last early March, a lovely village one that had a brilliant second hand book sales, and local wood carvings for sale. All to boost church funds. Trying to remember name of village in Dales......🤔

Edit: TDA Cardinal woolsey visited Peterborough Cathedral at Easter 1530 on what was supposed to be his journey back to London having been recalled by Henry VII but he was too ill to get back. After Peterborough he stayed with the Fitzwilliams at Milton Hall ( which didnt please Henry VII!). I believe he then died in Leicester.
We havent been to see our friends in Southwell for over a year for obvious reasons. Hope we can get to see them sometime this year.

Very interesting Millie. Thanks for that. I knew he died in Leicester, but not about the visit. 😁

Not always the case that one gets a second date, we didn't. I guess it depends on your surgery's system.

Blackburn Cathedral is going to be another vaccine hub next week.

Icy start to the day, with the ground slippery to walk on. It warned up a little around 11:00 and the frost soon went so fine for our afternoon walk.

My thoughts too about the use of cathedrals Millie. But I suppose the choice rests with location and suitability.
We've had a busy day, the noise from the wood chipper was tiring. All finished, a few more trees to do in February.
Still ploughing on with our kitchen, stuff piled everywhere, possibly the worst room to tackle?! The new floor will be difficult as the present one was laid at the second attempt and it's a mess underneath. Will let someone else do it, no idea what to do yet but it definitely needs replacing!
Strange to see the difference in weather across the country, stay safe everyone.

I will leave you with our pooch enjoying a snowy walk this morning 😁

Good to read posts. Sorry to read of nelliethehooker neighbour. But glad to read of those having their vaccinations. We're in an area of shortage apparently but I'm now hearing of folks locally who are getting theirs now, both at GP's and Broomfield hospital to begin with it was only Basildin hospital when their rates were far higher than ours. Fingers crossed for the rest of us.
A friend lost her husband Wednesday, don't think COVID involved but he had been in hospital following a fall down the stairs cracking ribs and bumping head. He had dementia and possibly unconfirmed MND - results later this month. He'd come home from hospital Saturday but died in the community hospital early hours of Wednesday 😢 not sure of events between.
Filthy dog walk, I wore my ice grips over walking boots, hard hard frost last evening, gone by 5am but dry, snow covering about 7am, sleeting still.
We have salad for dinner 🤣🤣🤣.
Had to have heating firm we use out on Thursday, as Wednesday temperature not coming up, only 16c when I got up and heating been on an hour 😯 we'd had a couple of days like it but it was much colder outside. All seemed fine in Thursday when guy came, learnt a lot more about how the wifi bit works, guy wasn't overly thorough just cursory check that boiler came on, birdies but inky for a few minutes I've learned, chap I spoke too on phone thought it might be wifi connection and part fitted by them last year guaranteed for 2 years so I was surprised to receive a bill, which I haven't discussed with them yet 😉. This morning I've watched closely, noting down boiler fire up and cut off times no idea what boiler does normally behind its opening cover door in the cupboard, still only 17.5c boiler cutting in and out. I have left a message as they're not open on Saturday, my brother reckons it's monitored so we'll see, if not he has owners number as a work contact 😉. At least we have gas fire for the lounge and plinth heater in the kitchen, plus a fan heater if needed.
Enjoy your day folks.

B2 I'm usually quite good at deciphering things on here as I frequently notice my own contributions need it but I just can't work out "birdies but inky for a few minutes" I do hope someone on here who is boiler savvy can point you in the right direction. Not good to be cold, especially your OH.
Dry and sunny here again. I got a shock when I saw daylight through our pruned trees, I expect the birds did too. Our man has done a good job but I still don't like pruned trees.

I read and read my post before posting, but I find it hard to spot typos and errors on screen, printed I hone in like a rapier 🤣🤣.
It took me a while to find it
not to mention decode it 🤣🤣. Should read...... Boiler came on but only for a few minutes. No idea where birdies came from! When the engineer came out the boiler did fire up and come on, I think the guy and I assumed it would stay on until temperature reached but he didn't wait to see if the increase in temperature was reached. We were already warm when he tried is the only get out I clause I can give myself and him! Plus the outdoor temperature was higher. As I discovered this morning it comes on but goes off again very quickly regardless of the room temperature. It was apparent again today as its colder outside, probably not as noticeable on the warmer days?? Delighted to say house now warmer and where we'd usually have it.
I hope I've proof read this enough!
Edit I expect it will be a boiler issue, and we'll need a new one! These days it always seems to be can't be repaired 😱. This one has been in more than 13 years, I haven't fully checked date and had a new PCB very early on. The boiler it replaced - it needed removing from a bedroom, was over 25 years old.

Ah I wondered whether it was just the boiler or a possible separate thermostat like ours where we set the temp. Our boiler is connected to British Gas Hive to detect problems, a godsend really. We don't have the total remote Hive system, just the boiler detection. I presume your remote connection is similar? Sorry you have had problems, can you get them back easily, are you on a priority list?

Yes the 'new' thermostat is wifi based, no wiring just temperature. But not hive or nest type, just have separate programmer in the airing cupboard. Not as sophisticated as the one it replaced, wired, which was thermostat and programmer where you could set temperature for each on and off, very good. It was fitted with 'new' boiler. I naively expected it would be replaced with a similar one. The one we had was no longer available and this one was fitted. I think there's a 3 way communication, thermostat to programmer to boiler. I could be totally wrong but seems logical to me. So bound to be more chance if failure! Shame my brother, who understands these things can't visit and has moved less local, he's good at helping over the phone but surprisingly not at all familiar with our system! Our game plumber retured and moved away 😢. Always felt we could discuss, but then he was a self trader and lived opposite!
It's very hard not understanding how things work and being trusting. I've no complaints but notice there were no discussions, which maybe there should have been??
Not heard from the company but I will push OH's health situation 😉

Good luck B2.
I had intended to start recovering a little Victorian chair seat today, have watched Youtube to gather details but still a bit nervous about starting and doing it neatly, no folds or pleats! It's a hand me down chair from a gt granny.

Dry here today too, Brue. The earlier sun appears to be hiding now, but it did put in an appearance earlier.
Had our boiler service Wednesday this week. Fortunately all is well. The engineer kept well away from us so that he and us remained 'safe'. Our boiler is in the kitchen, so I opened the back door and kitchen windows and the door to the dining room and Conservatory were kept closed, so the kitchen was completely isolated. He entered and left straight from the kitchen to outside without coming through the house.

Bakers, just a thought. If it’s wifi based, the units might operate and talk to each other using batteries. I had to change the batteries in Mums wifi thermostat. Usually, they tend to show a code if battery change is required, but it’s not always obvious on the display. Whatever you do, don’t remove the batteries until you have new replacements. It’s a straight out, straight in very quick swop required!
I have to get magnifying glass out to read codes, and use torch on my phone to see clearly. Ignore if no obvious battery code.

The more I hear about boiler problems, the more I am pleased our almost 33 year old ones are still going! (separate one for granny flat)
Simple controls........separate timers with 3 on/off periods, HW can be timed separately, thermostats on HW cylinders, thermostatic radiator valves on all but small by-pass radiators in hallways.
Over the years I have fitted two new timers, one new pump, and new TRVs.
When we do need a new boiler, we will be keeping it fairly simple as far as controls go. DD has invested in a Hive system, but with a sprawling layout and thick walls, it does not always work as it should.

Oh batteries yes, of course no inbuilt power. Progress 😤😤😤. Not looking to touch anything at the mo. But worth remembering and including in conversation!
I expect if I call 'a man' out and get charged for his time, that I accept, but £85 for no more - if as much as 15 minutes 😯. I expect I've bought his expertise - including considering something obvious as batteries. Surely that's his specialist subject???
I know when folk asked for my assistance, offered for free - paid for by council tax payer, they'd expect lots of suggestions and knowledge plus I could confer with colleagues if I thought I needed additional input when stumped.......
Going to be an interesting conversation Monday.
On a happier note I negotiated a better deal, slightly, with no March increase and free SIM card, sadly can't have with my number 😢 so OH who makes a tenner last years 🤣, can have it, with Virgin on Thursday. Not my specialist subject OH was king of getting a good deal on anything, I've been known to walk away too embarrassed to listen to his cheek, but delighted with the outcome he achieved.
I fear we may need new TV, age unknown 😱😱, but it is flat screen and colour 🤣 as it keeps switching to analogue. Hope the local self owned guy is open for calls, sales and set up. Neither if us has any idea on the nest of cables behind the TV and the young brain has moved away.......... But we can watch aerial TV if cable not cable, so another next week job. Again not a new issue, but need to keep things familiar and simple for OH 😢. So been kicking the can down the road for a while! We have other TV's in the house, smaller screens, so coukdnt connect cable, but even I can attach aerial cable - I think 😉
KjellNN I'm with you all the way on new things......... it's why I'm reluctant to change things, not meanness, just never as simple!
