The weather forecast is looking good for today in this area. So perhaps a day out today to visit the NT Bateman's which is about one hours drive from where we are. Have any of you been there? It looks a nice place to visit from the description. Rudyard Kiplings home in the Sussex Weald. It's a 17th Century house, so plenty of history there! There's also a 17th Century Watermill by the river.

I heard the dawn chorus at 5 a.m. this morning. It's another bright, sunny morning. Ideal weather for a day out!

    Another Big Day here.

Yesterday the cows went out to day time grazing for the first time this year. Then we talked about it to our visitors. They they watched the milking and we talked some more.

Today the visitors will see more of the farm and we will talk about our family history and the long association with Dairy Shorthorns.

But if you want to know any more you will have to wait and watch at the end of the month.

Next we went to B&Q in Lyons way business park, Worthing, to buy a wrench for changing over the propane gas bottle. When we got back, we found that the wrench was the wrong size, so didn't fit! yell So we'll have to take it back and change it for a larger sized wrench.

Just make sure you don't wrench too much Malcolm. The "little " purpose made spanner that I have at least prevents that. Just hand tightened then nipped tight is all that is required. Otherwise you can damage the fitting. With a larger wrench there is always that temptation to lean on it a bit more.☹️

Yes David it's mending well thanks . It's still a bit stiff and the area round the kneecap is still numb. Apparently they cut through quite a few nerves in that area, it's not clear if it will ever be normal but that's a small price to pay. Most days I'm easily reaching that 10,000 steps target that seems to be the accepted norm.

The newer type of gas pig-tails have a handle that you turn by hand to connect to the bottle, meaning that you don't need a special tool.

I believe that the pig-tails should be changed every 5(?) years, so most people should have the newer type now (or so my service man tells me).

    Here's the new type.

Our van is 3 years old and has the normal nut that you tighten type. Malcolm's van is newer, I believe. Unless the type you mention are written into regulations, I suspect manufactures will still fit the old type as they will be the cheaper option. I will certainly go for the type you mention when ours is updated.

I have visited Bateman's MM, very enjoyable. We went in the Autumn, and the fruit trees in the orchard were at their best. Huge apples and pears. House and history very interesting, garden very nice as well. Good cafe. Have a good day.

Another gorgeous sunny day in North Wiltshire. Had to pop into town this morning to buy a replacement water pump for the van (just one in stock sir, and we'll match the online price, so that was a tenner knocked off!). Then went to post Mrs M's old passport which is up for renewal - the online system is excellent once you get a suitable photo accepted, mine only took a couple of weeks from applying to receiving the new one. Unfortunately it took about 20 attempts to get a suitable photo for this one!)

Home and cut both lawns (garden refuse collection tomorrow) just got to clean the van and get it packed ready for our trip to Moorhampton on Thursday by which time I think I'll need a holiday!

Have a great time everyone who's away over the coming weekend!  smile

Same here, have a good time one and all if you're off soon.

OH actually sorted through his clothes this morning and I took a very old suit (big lapels!) and a jacket to a charity shop in town. Gave a neighbour a lift in too, both of us overloaded when we came back. Good weather but clouding over, not too bad if you're having a holiday in the SW. smile

    It's blimmin' freezing here today!

Must say though, I'm getting a bit jealous of all you people going off in your vans. We made the decision to give April a miss due to Easter and our first trip is in May. Now a little jealous.

We are not away either until the end of the month, OH has a hospital appointment on the 20th that and a late Easter (but longer higher price band) we decided we would get work done in April then come home at the end of June rather than the beginning as we have done previously.  Might squeeze in a couple of nights between the 20th and the end of month just to check everything out.

More work outdoors today, I've painted all the cast iron down pipes black gloss, scraped off the flaking paint from the bricks that are below the harling around the bottom of the house walls. Re-pointed where required, waiting for the pointing to go off then I will paint the bricks. I've managed to paint one side of his nibbs shed but it turned flipping freezing so came in and had a lovely hot bowl of soup. His nibbs is busy doing man things in the shed and at the vehicles

Oh well have warmed up a bit now so must go back out and carry on.

This site is pathetically slow today yell

Two days filming, then there will be two days editing, all for a nine minute segment on 30th April.

It was fascinating to see the professional process behind the production, and the team were wonderful.

I'm sure you can tell from the photo the name of the programme.
