What are you all up to

Mills my heart goes out to you, the pain cannot be imagined that of losing a child, when I say child I mean your child be they new born or 40 years old they are a part of you. The pain eases but is always there & should be too as a reminder, they are never forgotten. It doesn’t change, yes the grief lessens to the extent the daily thoughts are rarely accompanied by a breakdown but the thoughts can change a normal day to one of deep reflection & sense of loss. Folk try to offer words of support & that is a wonderful thing that they try but it needs to be shared to be fully understood, it is a state of mind not just a journey.

Thank you Rocky. Such kind words. Thank you Freddy, thoughts are with you as well.

Enjoy your day Millie, sorry I missed your comments yesterday.
My memories will come back on Christmas Day, my Mum's birthday, however I know she wouldn't want sadness to creep in. Normally we would be together with the family to raise a glass to her and others who are absent.
Mr Brue and I will have to face each other for yet another solo day!

Same wishes from me too Millie. Tough day yesterday for you and Mr.H.
One of the reasons we all went for a walk yesterday was due to the date. Mrs WNs father passed away on the 17th.December a few years ago. We normally all travel to Rivington Pike, near Chorley, to "visit" his ashes which are scattered there, have a meal and go to see MiLs brother and SiL who live in Bury but obviously this is not a normal year. So many small things have been disrupted by this dratted virus.
Not a nice day today. Heavy rain this morning but the afternoon does look more promising. I think I might have to get a ladder out later as Mrs WN wants some decorations putting up. Yikes.😱

Mr B has got to get a ladder out too, this time to unblock the gutters again... be careful WN!!
Last night we stayed up for a TV film binge, first Far from the Madding Crowd and then Gemma Bovery both filmed locally. Last time we watched the latter film was in our village pub which turned into a raucous evening of oohing and aahing and place spotting.
Some flowers have arrived from my cousin in Canada...really beautiful red christmas roses and tulips, they must think things are bad. After the war she remembered her parents packing up food parcels for us, I remember them too, Betty Crocker cake mixes, Cracker barrel cheese, Sunmaid currants and best of all chewing gum!
Anyway we will enjoy this lovely surprise gift, serendipity is alive and well.

Which version of Far from the Madding Crowd Brue? I love them all, first saw the 60’s one (with Julie Christie, Alan Bates and Terence Stamp) when doing my English Lit O level. Really enjoyed the TV version with Nathaniel Parker as well. Something I always enjoy watching.
Flowers sound lovely😁

Yesterday must have been a sad day for you and your family WN. Very best wishes to your OH and MIL. Hopefully the day out, despite having to be different this year, lifted everyone's spirits a little. Christmas day will be a day of mixed feelings for you brue but I expect there will be lots of happy memories as well. Best wishes to you all.
I had a lovely catch up with my friend over a take away coffee this morning. The weather was surprisingly mild and the rain held off luckily. So good to see her. This afternoon I rang a friend who has been shielding since March and I haven't been able to see since then. We speak about once a month or so. We had a really good long natter.
Be careful on those ladders people.

It was the newer version TDA, I loved the first one with Alan Bates and Julie Christie, yes, it's a tale that's stood the test of time.
Glad you had a good get together with your friend Millie.
Did you head for the ladder WN...it was too wet and windy here to attempt anything!

Yes I did Brue and did my duty, dutifully. Held the ladder firm with no lack of concentration until she had planted both feet back on Terra Firma.😂
Actually only a 3 step step-ladder to get to the top shelf of the wardrobe and if I'd fallen backwards I would probably have landed on the bed but Mrs WN had laid down a double layer of bubble wrap just in case. Thanks for your concern.👍

Had to go into town and do some (by my standards) last minute Christmas shopping today.

Every year at the start of December Mr and Mrs M agree that we're not going to be silly and buy each other gifts just for the sake of it.
And every year about now, I say to Mrs M "we have agreed, haven't we - we're not buying each other anything."
To which her face drops and she says "well yes, but the dogs might have got you one or two little things"!

My daughter got this card yesterday. This is just the inside and the outside is as colourfully made too. The purple part is a flap that lifts up with another message
It was made by a 6 year old girl in her class and apparently the parents said she had spent some time making it the previous evening. My daughter said she nearly cried when she saw it. Teaching does have its rewards.

Sorry Millie I'm always late on this thread and miss things. My thoughts are with you.

😂😂😂 A conversation repeated every year in our house. OH made a foolish choice a couple of days ago and decided to go into town to get something for me. Our town fleeces every visitor via exorbitant parking charges, but bless him, he persevered. Until he realised he had no small change for meter.... “Fear not”, cried he, “mobile payment”. Three separate meters later, all out of order, he gave up. Much cursing of our robbing, inept Council for rest of day😂
It always amazes me how reliable dogs are at choosing presents. Very generous with their biscuit allowance as well.....🤣

Gorgeous effort Corners. I have never forgotten my first teaching practice. A lovely village school, Juniors, fantastic place with lovely staff more than happy to help support a rooky student take her first classes. The children were a delight. Even got to go on a lovely school trip to Beamish with them. On my last day I was blown away by all the cards and little gifts, totally unexpected. Lots of teachers in our family, it runs through generations........😁

Should be an interesting press briefing this afternoon. Just been looking at some of latest case rate figures up and down country, sadly appear very bad in some places.☹️ Keep safe everyone, as much as you can.

Just had a rather late Postal delivery, especially for a Saturday .
Just gave the T/dryer an afternoon meal, came on here for five or so minutes when " Rattle, clatter, flap, flop BANG " and that was the mail arriving. So sprinted, very very slowly, to put the kettle on for coffee and picked up the letters and and and The C&MC Handbook has arrived.
now what should I do with that ?? Read it in place of the locked down carollers ? Put it, unopened of course, on the Collection plate ? Refurbish the table anti-rock system ? Or should I put out to tender, of course , a request for other suggestions
?I think I should go and think some more about it
sure I might, just might, have nicked that thought from somewhere seasonal

Received a card today through the door, no stamp so someone local. Don't recognise writing, no name on card but our three names written out. Could be one of three possibles. Why don't people sign the ruddy things?
Also recived a card from an elderly aunt of mine, addressed to my brother and Sister-inLaw.
Have to scan it and send it to him and ask for ours by return.
Had a very pleasant walk with the Nellies today. Met them at a country park and spent a few hours walking with them, properly distanced of course (Well, you never know where they've been, do you?😂). Nice to meet them again. Time passed quickly as usual. Enjoyed a dry, sunny morning with them. How is it that Mrs WN can walk around and not get a piece of mud on her trousers when the rest of us look like we've been bog snorkelling?🤔😁 Not fair.

Rootling around in MiLs wardrobe getting her decorations out I came across a box. Opened it up and there was lots of memorabilia inside. MiLs wedding cap, Mrs WNs school reports. Never realised what a swat and a creep she was.😂 Reading the reports it seems that I was lucky to end up as the chosen one.😀 I think she must have been one of those who sent "I love you Teacher" cards.😱 Sickening.🤕😊
Brought a smile to everyones face so was worth the opening.

Quiet day here, just a bit of pooch walking, log sorting.

So agree with you. I'm not surprised at it but very p***d off. Won't get to see son and DIL they're in a really low tier, and I'm pleased.
Because we thought we could be together I have made 2 Dundee cakes, one to take with us along with mince pies, they're in the freezer, and other bits. Not the end of the world but very annoying....... Got an idea how the hospitality industry must have felt several times over this year. There will be so much waste! At least I have a mini Christmas dinner in the freezer, as afraid this would happen.
It's not the end of the world - hopefully 😱, it's important we all stay safe.

If the latest mutation of the viruse that was first found in Kent, and as the Boffins today advised, it was found when Kents rates still were going up when other tier 3 areas were stable or going down ,,and some samples were sent to Porton Down late last week or Monday this week when it was confirmed and had moved into Essex (Basildon mostly)hence the early move into higher tiers for some Home Counties and Peterborough, and since then, as we have found here rates have shot up from 117monday to 209 today, and Stevenage rates have increased 58% since Monday,,
As a sister who works at our local Major hospital said earlier this week, they are busier than earlier this year , as her managers have said the xmas "free for all" will be U turned soon,as this mutation has not been expected to be so viralent
She also said that they think because of all the extra virus protection being carried out by the majority, flue/bad cold infection rate are down so far this year

The news is not good for us in Scotland either, as of boxing day ALL areas go into tier 4 on the mainland, islands go to tier 3 that's for 3 weeks. Its an effort to stop the spread of the new strain, there are 17 cases that they know of all in the greater Glasgow area.
Went to OHs mums care home yesterday to take pressie and card. Met the new manager seems nice and on top of things. Cruel turn of fate, the home was to have been the first in Perth to get the vaccine. As they got some cases 2 weeks ago (now all clear) they are now having to wait until February to get the vaccine.
Raining for most of the day so only inside jobs done.
WN, sounds like you and the nellies had a good time.

Well thats us in tier 4. We were only tier 2 yesterday. It is quite frightening how fast this virus is spreading. Unfortunately it means that we cant meet any of our family for a walk. We had planned different walks on different days with an exchange of presents. We feel very disappointed but it was the only decision to make. On the upside we treated our grand- daughter, her fiance and grandson to a trip to see father christmas this afternoon. We went with them. It was a very special afternoon. A last hurrah as that will close now. So sorry you wont get to spend christmas with your son and DIL Bakers2. Sorry to everyone else who has had their christmas plans scuppered.
So pleased to hear that the WNs and nellies had a good afternoon.

I really feel for you, millie and our friends in Werrington. We also have several family members in various parts of Hertfordshire including Mrs M's sister and OH who became Granny & Grandad for the first time a couple of months ago and were looking forward to greeting their new granddaughter over the festive period.

It won't affect us much, we are still in Tier 2 and with low rates in Wiltshire but we will stay at home, take the dogs for an extra long walk on Christmas Day and hope to be able to get to Cornwall for a belated celebration in the New Year, though I suspect we may all be locked down by then.

Have to say, though, I wish the government would have the guts to make the "advice" an instruction. Looking at the updated Tier 2 "advice" I think there will be plenty with a wide interpretation of the "advice"!
