Ye Gawds, you lot certainly have brought back a dozen or six memories to ABM !!  Not that I drink alcohol nowadays, but the occasional bottle of booze wends its way to certain family members at this time of year  smile

EDIT --  Are folks still knitting hats etc  for the tiny new-borns these days, or are the medics still snowed under ??

    { Just wondering since somebody ( Ttda actually ) has found a hoard of wool while doing a clear out  wink  }

Spent today laying LVT in the new bathroom for DD.......knees are suffering now despite using a kneeling pad as the floor is concrete.   Lots of pipes to cut round, but should  get it finished tomorrow if I do not get too much "help" from Callum!

Wrapped the presents for our son and family tonight as they are being handed over on Tuesday.

After Jan 1, surely we should be doing a 'no tariff' reciprocal deal with Oz on wine and Nissans. With 35% tariffs, your £60K Merc is going to be £80K. Perhaps this is the 'final solution' to all those BMW drivers too. wink

Have got 2 small bottles of sloe gin and 4 of our friends to look after whilst they are in the UK should be well matured by the time they come back next March, the sloes this year were the biggest I have ever seen just like bunches of grapes.

A partly sunny morning so far and looks better for this week so a few outside chores to do, just filled up the bird feeders.

Contrary to my recent posts I'm not a great imbiber of alcoholic tinctures (as my Uncle used to refer to them. wink) But I also made some sloe gin over a year ago that hasn't moved from the bottle. So yesterday I soaked some mixed dried fruit in it, intended for a bread maker Pannetone. I was wondering why I hadn't heard the bleeper to add these extras and found I'd pressed the wrong button..luckily the Pannetone had cooked but minus the fruit. So I'm going to make an alcoholic bread and butter pudding today so the two ingredients can meet up again!

Very wet here, wet dog, wet walk, soggy mats ☔

Ditto here Brue. Chucking it down.

Having a hair cut when Mrs WN wakes up properly. Lunchtime is usually best.laughing There are a couple of under the sink cupboards that need a good clear out as I'm off to the tip tomorrow. The way the virus is  at the moment and with it not expected to improve I have the feeling that we will shortly see further restrictions in Wales so I want to get there asap.

Had a friendly chat with a Pharmacist at a hospital on Friday. He normally sends a prescription for an annual supply of Omacor tablets but the Health Board are stopping it due to funding. It transpires that across all of North Wales that there will be 16 patients who have my disease that will have this stopped at a grand annual saving of approximately £18 per person. The Board admit that they don't actually know if it will have a detrimental effect just as no-one knows if it has a beneficial one. I suppose the only way of finding out is if my condition suddenly deteriorates.🤫 That'll teach them.😋 He was kind enough to source a reasonable alternative from a high street store so we'll buy some just in case.

Just as an aside he has only recently returned to work as he has had the dreaded Covid. He's a fit mid 30s man and he said it knocked the stuffing out of him. Bed ridden for 10 days, limbs still sore and tired and breathing not the best. So take extra care folks.

False economy indeed WN. The reports from Wales about the figures there, and ability to help everyone are very worrying.

It’s a wet miserable day here as well, so it will be damp dog for us as well (not that he cares, swear he has duck genes🙄). I want to do some more woodwork re staining this afternoon, then cooking a meal for Mum, Sister and us for dinner later.

Not just new cars though CY. Spare parts are going to cost more and the vast majority of Motorhomes use EU country engines etc. Bad news all around.

It will be very interesting who blinks first, surprised does make one wonder how much pressure is going to be put on the French (they did not want us in) and now they are hoping that the the country who gave away its fishing rights to help join and paid a fifth of the EU budget  is kept inundecided

The fact that the two parties have extended the talks just confirms that the UK don't want to leave without a deal? If they did they would have called time on it by now. Whilst the EU would prefer a deal I suspect they will cope perfectly well without one. About 13% of UK GDP goes to the EU and only 4% of the EU's GDP comes to the UK. So in economic terms the UK has far more to lose and it also places the EU in a much stronger position. The problem is that we are so closely aligned with everything EU that any sudden jolt will have a worse impact on us. Maybe in years to come we would get over that but whether our economy remains the size it is, is open to question.

Much depends on whether the EU membership expands or contracts after all this! I expect other countries are looking on with interest.

I am quite sure the reason that Brussels is being so obstinate is just what you say   , plus  big hole in the eu budget will mean either big redutions in their "projects" to keep  some in?,  or a big increase in the 27 remaining countries payments ,on top of the cost of covid, most are the same as the UK , having to find how to pay off their loans

I don't know whether they are being obstinate JVB, lets hope the negotiations are reasonably successful for all concerned. smile

I dragged in the pot grown Christmas tree today, if I can keep it going it might last another year or two before it reaches the ceiling. laughing I was a bit half hearted with the decorations as no-one except us will see it, what a year this has been! I hope we'll hear that more are getting vaccinated soon, my only planned outing next week is the dentist and their Covid no water allowed techniques....not looking forward to that at all. frown

About 13% of UK GDP goes to the EU and only 4% of the EU's GDP comes to the UK.

David, as a matter of interest can you tell me in financial terms how large is the GDP of both the UK and the EU? 4% of a lot could well amount to substantially more than 13% of a lot less.

It has been a very rainy day here with 3 set walks so far. Flyte has just about dried off before he and I have headed out again. Hope that it's a good bit drier tomorrow when we get the van out, loaded up and then when we setup on site.

    Nellie

The 4% of the EU GDP is about twice as much in value, as far as I can work out, compared to the UK 13% but of course that is spread over 27 countries although the bulk mainly impacts on about 6/7 countries. I am certain that the EU want a suitable deal but they are keen to protect their internal market. Ironic in a way that the UK was so instrumental in setting up the single market all those years ago!!!

Trees put in the four front bedrooms (easy job, we just fold them up a bit and put in the relevant wardrobes). Not many people will see them - just the family working in the dark mornings and evenings, and the tanker driver collecting the milk (usually about 11 pm).

Then a largish real tree put in the hall and strewn with lights (OH's job). I'll be hanging the baubles etc later today.

But now, weekly accounts and make dinner.

Well that was a surprise. Woke up and lo and behold it was raining.😋

Got my waterproof on and toddled off to the tip in the car. Funnily enough there was only one other person there. The rain stopped briefly for me to deposit said bags in relevant skips then started again.

After coffee the sun made an appearance so we took off to town to pick up prescriptions, visit Deli for cheese, put a cheque in ATM and pick up my substitute Omacor tablets. Town was chaos. Not many people but council have blocked one side of the main arterial road in and it was farmers market day, entrance up that very street! Surprised how few people in town thank goodness.

Now about to try to get through to Scottish Power as they've been appointed our new supplier by Ofgem.

More Amazon scam phone calls this morning, always from different numbers, which are then blocked but there are many c(r)ooks in the broth by the look of things.

After an early shower, a surprisingly lovely day here. OH has gone off for a big bike ride, in all his spangly new birthday cycling kit. The pooch and I have had a walk, I have a loaf in the bread maker, some of OH’s pressies to wrap, and then a bit of a dash round with the Dyson. The latter to a thumping medley of rock classics........👍

Email from our local council as well. I am trying to get them to extend some yellow lines on our street junction so that we can all get out without the need to shuffle. Fingers crossed common sense prevails🤞

Been a busy couple of days here, weather not great.

Gkids been staying for a few days, then on Saturday we took them down to Lancaster to meet up with their parents.

Transfer of the kids and all their bags done, a socially distance cup of coffee, steak bake and chat with son and his wife for 45 mins then back in the car and head north for us, south for them. Back home by 17.30 not bad, 487 mls travelled, more than we would normally do in a day but needs must.

Had a lazy day yesterday, it rained all day.

Went up to the attic bedroom this morning that granddaughter used to strip bed and tidy up. Noticed a small brown patch on the ceiling, surprised yep we have a leak. Got next door to check their side as its the adjoining wall area. They don't have an issue seemingly, so will need to get a roofer out to check where its coming from. OH been out to have a look, we are single storey so fairly easy to do but nothing obvious, no slates adrift and lead flashing looks ok. Just what we need at this time of year yell

I've been busy this afternoon making hats on the knitting machine, what I'm going to do with them I'm not sure laughing just wanted to keep my hand in and occupy my mind.

MillieH great to hear your OH has had his first vaccine, so good to know that they are getting on with it.

The first care home resident in Scotland got hers today only another 49,999 still to go laughing think it will take months to get them done if we don't get the AZ vaccine soon. Was hoping to get ours before we head off next year but doesn't look likely now.

The weather goes have looked kindly on us today. We managed to fit in 2 dry walks this morning before getting the van out and loaded up without getting wet. Arrived on site and had a huge choose of pitches, only 9 others on a 100+ site. Set up in the dry and had another dry walk while the van heater up, so it was nice and cosy when we got back. More rain this evening which will only have added to the flooding in the fields near the site, but fingers crossed it seems to have stopped now, just, in time for our last walk out.

Oops, posted this too soon as it's raining again!!yell
