So sorry to hear your news, Moulesy. It must have been a very difficult time for you over the last few weeks. Hope that your father is avoiding the virus and is keeping ok. We both send our condolences.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. For us it wasn't entirely unexpected and I know that many families have lost loved ones from the virus completely unexpectedly. It will be a sad time over Christmas and New Year. We will be glad to see the back of 2020!

I see we’re sending the Navy into the English Channel to keep an eye out for fish stealers in the event of a no deal. Oy Mr Macron remember Agincourt🤣🤣. It’s just sabre rattling but could get interesting👍🏻😊

Yes. I think it’s pathetic to be honest. We hardly have a fishing industry sadly. And most of what they do catch goes to Europe, so all Europe have to do is say “Non, Nein, Etc...”
After four years of knowing we are coming out, the inability of our politicians (no doubt assisted by intransigence elsewhere) to reach any kind of agreement smacks of incompetence.
I’m actually astonished we have four Navy boats to carry out the patrols😕

I’m loving Mr Macron saying he wants total access to our waters or there’ll be no deal. Psssst monseiur Macron-if there’s no deal you won’t get any Fish🤷🏻♂️

The navy has always patrolled the fishing industry (amongst others things,) I'm surprised the papers and the government want to do some sabre rattling, maybe it's all news to them?! I wonder what they think the navy usually does?!

I've had my morning session with our ancient neighbours, they asked if we could find some wine for them as Christmas presents, insisting that a certain NZ wine was very nice and could we get two bottles. We have searched high and low and reached a compromise today at the Co-op! Has anyone ever heard of an NZ wine with Blue in the title? We have found blue labels but no actual "blue" in a name.

Oh I wonder if they got NZ mixed up with Oz...back to the drawing board.
edit just had a look, not available here by the looks of it but I bet that was the one!
Many thanks EasyT, at least I can explain this to them. We've bought an NZ Oyster Bay Sauvignon and a Yealands for them.
ps don't mention the Asti Spumante that they insist a daughter in law loves, very few places sell it now. I think we're in a time warp here.
(Apologies to lovers of Asti!) 0 -
Sparkling Blue Nun is rather nice. I am no wine lover, which is probably why I quite like BN. It’s been re born and re packaged. No longer same as it used to be, in fact it’s no longer considered a Liebfraumilch. So called good wine is wasted on me. Anything Red is just a migraine in a bottle.

BN is definitely German. We used to have to buy for an elderly neighbour who couldn't get out. We did explain this to very shop assistant. German wines have never recovered from the Anti Freeze scandal some decades ago. Found in Liebfraumilch. Kept the car going though.
Oyster Bay is very nice Brue and that should suffice. We'll be having a bottle of the Sauvignon Blanc at Christmas. My fine Polenta Flour arrived today. Can't make Mince Pies without it so made some pastry just before lunch then 9 Mince Pies which have all disappeared with coffee this afternoon together with the Brandy Whipped Cream.🥧👍
Mrs WN got an email the other day inviting her to the surgery for a Flu jab. She joined all of the other Virgin Jabberees. She asked the Injector whether the Newbies were behaving. Her eye roll said it all. Do you know that most of the people making enquiries thought they had been selected for the Virus Jab. Doh! Yes the Govt have decided to prioritise 50-64 year olds ahead of everyone else. The Common Sense Index was quite low at the surgery this morning.😅

Blue Nun has gained a bit of a jokey persona over the years, not least as mentioned by Brue as being used in the "This Week" TV news programme. When I was at work we had to buy a secret santa gift for another manager. You knew the person so you could buy accordingly. So I purchased a bottle of Blue Nun but sadly the joke was completely lost on the person receiving it!!!!
It is something I would have probably drunk when I was younger but would it far too sweet now. Thank goodness we have lovely wines from New Zealand now, I like Oyster Bay. Prefer Sauvignon Blanc to Chardonnay. From France I prefer the Cotes de Gascoigne white wines. I was tasked with buying a bottle of Rosé wine for someone as a Christmas present. I know they like the sweeter pinks so went for a Loire Valley Rosé was they tend to be more towards the medium than dry. I would go for a Rosé de Provence which would be much dryer.
Having said all that I mainly drink red wine. A few years ago I discover Malbac which mainly comes from South America.
Time for a Sherry methinks!!!!!

Whenever we are in a pub or restaurant with MiL she'll order her favourite tipple, a Cinzano and Lemonade and this almost always will produce a quizzical look. Not many places left that stock it. A bit like Dubonnet. Mind you how many Cherry B's do you see these days or Port and Lemon?

I've just done a quick stock take - and we have 82 bottles of wine in the pantry. All English, mainly from Chapel Down and Three Choirs. Sparkling, white, rose and red (Raven's Hill from Three Choirs). Plus a special Sparkling Red to try at Christmas.
Chapel Down do a lovely Bacchus Gin as well (only two bottles of that at the moment).
P.S
There will be one less bottle after we've finished supper.
PPS - we do tend to buy in bulk - better discount!

We are obviously unsophisticated wine drinkers compared to many of you, preferring medium to slightly sweet whites, and very much liking the German and Austrian wines. Some French wines are OK, but not our first choice.
We are not big on red, often does not agree with us, but like rose, especially the Californian Grenaches and Zinfandels, and various others.
Australian and NZ whites are also good, and we liked many of the Denbies wines, took the tasting tour many years back.
Having lived in Italy for a couple of years, we have tried their reds, which vary from drain cleaner to quite pleasant, but our favourite is a white.....Locorotonda......from the south of Italy. Never seen it in UK.
There is a place in Perthshire producing fruit and "tree" wines, we like them too.
We drink what we enjoy, not what the wine buffs prefer!

Apparently the Queen Mother used to enjoy a Dubonnet and bitter lemon, I quite like it but you do get funny looks when you order it in a bar! She also used to give triple gins to unsuspecting nervous guests...I tried that with a grumpy friend on a camp site once, it knocked her out for the afternoon.

I like a glass of red occasionally but prefer rose and we do have some good ones around here the local is Lalbenque and they do red and white as well, our friends do like red wine and her OH has been building a bigger wine store in their cellar under their house recently but they do support the local Cahors Malbec very dark red wine.
Have got a bottle of Vouvray bubbly for xmas day OH will have a small taste as he does not drink very much, unlike KJ I do like a very dry white sometimes, I did have a small port and lemon yesterday a very long time that I have had one.
A drier day today but a bit chilly and looking drier this next week and a bit warmer just as well as we had very heavy rain yesterday and strong winds which moved our new fencing so a temporary repair until a dry day. Going around to a friend next Wednesday for a coffee and a good chat as she is on her own as OH is working in UK and unable to come out due to having to isolate on return and his boss has said no, as he is a Chinook simulator trainer near Oxford, so they will have a virtual xmas via facetime, and she has put all the decorations up for him to see, first time they have not been together for 20 years but used to him being away as he is ex RAF Chinook pilot.

I like the real hard stuff. Particularly Cognac. We have quite a selection of Whiskeys. Pernod, Drambuie, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Cointreau is my favourite.
Just had a fantastic find after a root around.......Grand Marnier🤗
Deserve a wee nip tonight. Big clean up of our spare bedroom took most of day. Found all sorts of hidden gems, mainly wool, some put away items long forgotten. Big result was finding special curtain rings for our bay window pole. These were long lost, now required as I have ordered some new curtains at long last. I think the spare bedroom might well be my next project. It’s long overdue for a redo, not that we ever have anyone stay nowadays.
