Also reading through the posts I noticed a few of you have had to buy new car batteries this year. We did as well as the one in the Volvo kept going flat during the spring lockdown probably due to Lack of use. When the car was in at the Volvo specialist before our summer break I got them to put a new battery in it it turned out the one in the car was the original one and the car is almost 11 years old so not bad

Just put the lights up here as well  ~~ not the nice pretty twinkly sort more a standard bulb at top of the stairs decided it had worked long enough. No problem there but it had softened the solder-like connections on the base so it involved destroying the bulb to get a decent pair of pliers ( nothing personal, honest ) in to break the cap of the bulb without doing the same to the fitting.  I always thought there should be a quick release arrangement so the whole fitting could be dismantled on a work bench -- Much safer than a 79-year old tinkering away at the top of a set of step ladders in the dark  grrrrrrrrrrrryell.  At least I've got the kit to do it.

As for car batteries, I've just done a 60-odd mile tour round Cheshire to give the ducky a bit of a boost - should be able to do a bit of shopping tomorrow, including a bulb or three doh frown

I've just put the Christmas lights up, outside the house.  Was trying to resist on the basis that it's too early but the neighbours have already decorated their houses in the cul-de-sac and it looks really festive - so I've been shamed into it! Someone has even decorated the trees on the communal green.  Have to agree, we all need cheering up a bitlaughing

Wouldn't normally have bothered because we're usually away at Christmas, but having just cancelled our Christmas week away at Sandringham, we're staying at home - and safe!

Must admit we're scrooge when it comes to lights but a few folk in the close make the effort.

We have a youngish couple who moved in a couple of years ago and they have 2 under 6 y.o.'s who were delighted to see a small tree and a log reindeer appear. The young girl was positively bouncing last Sunday as she shouted across the road to me that she was off to see Santa. Mum and Dad explained that it was only a drive through visit to see him and Rudolph. How times have changed since last year. Who would ever have thought that seeing Santa was akin to a Drive thru'McD's?undecided

Another tidy up and another trip down technology memory lane.

The Sony Handycam must be about 30 years old and I had forgotten about video8 tapes. The Canon A1 was a 35mm underwater camera and must be approaching 15 years old or more. The Canon 100 was my last 35mm SLR and perhaps 20 years old?

Then more up to date tech, the Canon 630 camcorder 15 years or more. And lastly, wonder of wonders an 8 Mb card. I had to check myself as when I first read it I thought it was 8 Gb!

Been very cold and grey today,  went to check the caravan in storage this morning,  can't be many folks out as no spaces visible. Van OK, but it did make me yearn for a getaway.

Not been up to much this week, we put our Christmas tree up last weekend and OH has been putting the lights up this week, we usually only put a few up but he has out extra up this year! surprised  Mind you I had forgotten he had put the wire through the window, and cut it in half when I closed it, oops! laughing

Had a video call with sons yesterday, and eldest son sent a video of their new house together with lots of photos, the kitchen is now almost in. I think perhaps our youngest son's is wishing they had bought a new house rather than an old one, they keep finding things that need doing and new bits of damp.frown

You are not the only ones who will not be at Sandringham for this Festive Season R & R !!  Her Maj & Company will be in Windsor for a change  wink

Corners, I rather like your Canon EOS -- my 50Ds are sitting  within 6foot of where yours truly is sitting, nice & close so I can  gather up the whole batch of batteries & charge 'em up --  seem to recall folks have had / are having problems with dodgy batteries although of a much larger size  innocent

That EOS needed a 2CR5 battery and I have an unopened pack of two but a few years past their use by date!

CANON BP-511A 1300mAh  Li~ion mounted in the right hand grip,  I carry 3 when the clicking fever catches me - one in use & 2 fully charged in the l/hand coat pocket (  Roughly where the fags used to sit in days of yore !! )  I think with a modicum of care, they & the cameras should see me out.  If they don't I've still got a couple of piles of lovely mahogany and brass that my father used before the war  wink

Been a nice sunny/cloudy day here again, frost first thing.

OH been busy this morning doing a job he loves (cleaning the drains) he stripped down the bathroom sink drain and gave it a good clean then the kitchen one. I did the housework and a couple of loads of washing.

This afternoon we took the big car for a run then stopped off in Perth along the banks of the river Tay for a walk. We have noticed this year that we see many more folk out walking now,  families with young children were enjoying the play park on the North Inch and a few golfers were out on the gold course.

Back home and a nice hot cuppa before starting making more cards.

    NTH, we know now winklaughing

So glad your Christmas lights switch on went well brue. It sounds like you had a lovely day and evening.

How exciting about your son and his girlfriend's new house. Helen. Not long now. Will you be able to help them.move or do the current restrictions not allow that? Lovely photos of the window decorations. People do seem to be making an effort this year.

We had a lovely walk round Ferry Meadows with our daughter and youngest grand-daughter this afternoon. Thankfully we are still able to see one of our children (outside of course). The weather was great for a walk - sunny frosty and very cold but we were very well wrapped up. It's now foggy.

Down at DD's this weekend, looking after Callum while she did shopping and painting, he will not willingly stay with his dad when Mummy has other things that need to be done, but cannot resist the offer to rummage through my tools or play on Gran's i pad.

We were taking turns in entertaining him, so did manage to get some other work done as well, I have cut all the picture rail pieces to size, and am almost finished the new wheelie  bin store,  while OH has been painting the picture rail, doing the laundry, and keeping the kitchen in order.

We now have 2 "days off", which I am informed will be spent writing Christmas cards, wrapping presents, tidying our house, and doing our own laundry.

Bitterly cold here, below zero overnight and most of today, despite some sun.

Steady day here, boy did we ache after moving a ton of firewood yesterday! Round and round the scaffolding, through the garage, round and round the scaffolding, down the steps and then finally wheelbarrowed to bottom of garden and stacked.😱

Mum and Sister down for dinner, OH up virtually cycling through Spain, while I made some Cookies. Testing is imminent🤗😋

As the temperatures have dropped and look like remaining that way all week, I drained down the water system on the MH yesterday. Just as well as the thermometer inside was barely above freezing. Mind you, with the effects of the climate, we don't seem to get half as many frosts as we used to.

Thanks for the reminder CY, we have been ignoring our van! We might take it out over Christmas to vist our daughter who'll be staying on Dartmoor, we probably won't need to worry about keeping food cold! But will need things to be working and not find them seized up.  (Outside visit with home comforts planned..)

According to the Met Office that could become a thing of the past as they are predicting our winters will get warmer and wetter (not sure that is an improvement!) Toward the middle of the century it's likely that most of southern England will be frost free!!!

Some extra hedging plants have arrived this morning to add to some beech hedging going in by a new post and rail fence, have dotted a few purple beech amongst them as I like the pink tinge to the new leaves in Spring...I don't know why but the "gardener" seemed a bit grumpy when I showed him the latest packet...wink

Meanwhile I've had one of those sad Christmas phone calls from an old neighbour in the Midlands, her husband died this summer so we had a long chat about life events. Our childen spent several years growing up together.

Waiting for a Waitrose delivery which has turned into a mammoth one but one good thing. I thought I'd treat ourselves to some English sparkling wine on speciall offer, it's been substituted by an even better one. (Chapel Down in Kent.) Next time I'll try the Dorset estate that's won an award recently. This one the >Furleigh Estate< not far from us either. smile

Going to try and buy UK!

A cold start and little wind and the sun came out for a bit around lunchtime when I arrived at St Mary's Island, but then showers on and off. Got back before most of them.
