How about putting the 'Solar Panel' on the garage roof to trickle charge ?? 0 -
A flawed genius indeed. Never forgiven in this household. His ball skills were amazing, but then he had a very low pivot point.

Yes, JVB, you can leave it on BUT just ensure that, if it is the type of battery that allows you to check the electrolyte levels, make sure the 'plates' are covered before charging as well as at regular intervals ~~ say every other day

What you can do, of course, is to buy, beg, borrow, harrumph, a second smaller battery just to give the main one a bit of a boost at the start. Then you have no worries about meddling fingers when your back is turned ! Also you can take it with you, in the boot or wherever, until you are happy the vehicle battery is back up to par.
You could, of course, get your favoured garage or Halfords to do a proper test to see if it is suffering from lack of use or perhaps old age ??
Like Humans batteries can last for many years or just give up after 6 months

P.S.,
JVB the 3 1/2 hours I sat in the 'van on Monday Charging from flat gave me a decent Start when I decide to check it - and that was from a Halfords charger too, shopped yesterday BUT made sure I did at least 8 miles after each stop. Seems to be holding up at present
But I would like a nice quick blast up to Altnahara and back tho'

When i first had a flat batt during te first lockdown , Mayday came to the rescue, and had to winch car out of the garage to get at the batt

The Mayday man advised at seven years old it may be end of life as cars these days need batt power all the time so need useing to keep charged
So had batt checked at Halfords, and it was found to be ok

Your battery might well be ok JV, but what it might not be is powerful enough to deal with these circumstances, only doing short trips out, not out every day, and turning over a modern power hungry car. If you get the chance, it might pay you to do what we are doing and give your car a bit of a work out a couple of times a week, take an alternative route somewhere so that your journey is over 5 miles or so. It might just help.
Part of the problem will be modern vehicles. We can leave our older VW MH for sometimes 10 weeks without turning her over. But she fires up first time reliably. Mind, part of that will be solar panel, so ABMs suggestion does make sense.

If it has lasted seven years I would suggest you have been quite fortunate. I had to replace the battery in my Kia Venga, albeit a petrol version, after three and a half years from new. What surprised me was how small it was amp hour wise, it might be different with a diesel. With the colder weather on the way I would think it's best to bite the bullet and buy a new battery. If you can fit it yourself then I have used TAYNA Batteries, I think there might be a Club code for a discount?

JVB, It's me again

Got my Halfords charger along side me right now --
No number or model info on the front ~~ it just says Halfords Fully Automatic Battery Charger then Safeguards battery against overcharging
Automatically switches between charging and maintenance modes etc etc.
BUT underneath in small print :- item code 181750
model No BFH-1275AM

Hospital visit went well yesterday. I arrived early, as is my way! Called for various tests, sight, peripheral and photos before appointment time. Lots of space and I assume no multi bookings for one time?? Specialist informed me I was normal - that's a first!
He asked if I read with my left eye, I affirmed, stated I was lucky to have distance in right eye - the cataract removed one, and close in the left. Advised that if I got on with that when the left one is done they can keep it that way. I wish I'd known before my OP- I've been short-sighted, probably in all senses 😉, all my life and find if I put glasses on, I'm ok without and with a lens in the left, I feel very unbalanced. This is apparently because of the difference. Apparently I'm more different than the brain can cope with! So could have other eye done soon. So something to discuss with the surgeon if anyone is having a cataract OP in the future. Lovely to be wise after the event!
Thanks for all your kind thoughts. Hope Nelliethehooker appointment goes as well.

The trouble with replacing batteries in cars theses days are
1. Often more inaccessible
2. You have to recode and programme a load of stuff.

Miserable out today, cold and foggy, we will be going down to DD's soon to get on with the painting and pick up Callum from nursery.
Yesterday I managed to finish the final coat of white paint in the bedroom, so will be starting with the final colour today. Not used to so much painting, my shoulders and arms are seriously out of condition!
Just treated myself to a new "Workmate" to replace my 45 year old original one, so picked that up yesterday after reserving it at Homebase. It is quite different from the old one, which DD will now inherit. It is already in use in her garage, so that will save me taking it back here.
The skip that has been at her house for over 5 weeks has finally been removed, after several phone calls, so that will resolve the parking problem in the driveway, and the last item for the new bathroom, the toilet seat, has finally arrived. All we need now is to hear that the timber merchant has obtained the oak we need.

As to Batteries OH did my awhile back and connected a battery he keeps in workshop so did not need to re programme and when he did his about 18 months ago the Landcruiser has 2 batteries so change one at a time again no re programming, JVB OH said best to change after seven years.
A bit more cloud here but quite warm outside, just finished painting second side of kitchen door then 2nd coats tomorrow and Saturday only 2 more doors to do.
Off to do a bit of shopping later and try the La Poste again to many folk the other day.
At least from Saturday we can go for longer walks upto 20km and three hours each day so will walk around the village a bit further out as OH does not do very long walks these days with knee and hip issues, he is due for a joint check but with corvid about he is leaving to when things improve as he said not really painful yet.

That's a problem I face when I get my cararacts done B2, it's a good reminder, sorry you've had to find out after the event. Hope you get a speedier appointment for the next. (If I take my varifocals off I feel very wobbly, I'm so used to the various corrections in them!)
Just been speaking to elder daughter who has a colonoscopy tomorrow, trying to be cheerful but it's not much fun. Luckily she has a nurse friend who works in the department so has some useful support.
OH waiting for fencing posts and stock wire to arrive, he's about to fence yet another border between us and two neighbours. I think they were expecting picket fencing but we decided, as no-one offered to share that we'd do something more basic. We have planted a new beech hedge to cover up the fencing later on.
It's just starting to brighten up after a foggy and frosty start.

RedKite I hope you enjoy your walks and some easing of the lockdown in France.
JVB, a new battery must be on the cards, I would think this has been a frequent occurence for many during lockdown. I just hope the Christmas "rush" won't mean delays on roads due to car breakdowns. That said I also hope there isn't a Christmas rush at all!

Sad, Sad day here sniffle sniffle. Reading the latest traction engine mag, Old Glory, and discovered that a beautiful great Showman's Steam Engine, The Lion, has been sold at auction & they never warned me
.Might have made a bid or six if I had known but, thankfully, it was sold to a Home Country bidder who out bid one from U.S. A. for a total of £800,000 at the hammer-- £911,000 after taxes etc so my piggy bank was safe after all
. It seems there will be life in the steam world yet after this C19 business is under better control !!I had a good chat before my first cataract op as to what I wanted and the under-snapper & I agreed to go for distance sight in right eye, reading sight in left eye. The man doing the operations , a couple of months apart, growled and told us off, both of us. Said he was not making a ****** ***** doll, I would end up with the very best distance vision I could imagine, and a pair of reading specs in my pocket !! And, as I sit here typing with those readers on I can peep over the top of them , thro the window and identify sparrows, robins etc 200 yards away without a struggle.
Apart from that don't mention Colonoscopys or Flexy Sigs, bin there done that and got a decent second prize tee-shirt

Have a good day y'all -- I'm wanted back at the tumble dryer

Beautiful day when we woke up so decided not to waste it and went for a walk, locally to our favourite hill, Moel Famau which sits in the Clwydian Range. The Nellies will know it well as we went for a stroll with them last year along the ridge. Almost the same this year but we ventured a bit further. Last year I was just recovering from my broken ribs and lung picture so they took pity on me.
The 2 photos are of the valley looking towards Ruthin and Snowdonia and the second is of the Memorial atop Famau from the other side after climbing it and dropping down towards Moel Arthur from where were heading back.
Really lovely weather, not much wind and just above freezing. The legs and lungs felt good afterwards so that was a bonus.

Thanks Wherenext, glad you managed to get out and enjoy the sunshine and clear skies.
It's been semi-sunny here, it took a long time for the fog to lift and then someone lit a very smokey bonfire!
Anyone else feeling tired after the tiers!!?

It was funny seeing the way the gentle wind changed direction by seeing smoke from a factory down in Ruthin, which started the day gently drifting northwards. On the way back it had changed from a Southerly direction to North Westerly as the clouds from Snowdonia were heading our way.
We're waiting for our news Brue. Seems like it will a Nationwide thing rather than tiered.
Why does this type of news always but always get leaked before the announcement. You often see it in newspapers or on internet news "The Prime Minister will say....etc." What's the point of their following day announcement?

Just a thought for those looking forward, and now not, to a Christmas reunion with children and Grandchildren.
Mrs WN, who likes to read a lot of stuff about America, read of a pair of elderly Grandparents who had life sized Cardboard Cut-Outs made of themselves and sent them to their children and GKs to carry around their house with them during the festivities and sit them at the dinner table etc.
Might be worth a try. The children and GKs thought they were great. They probably had as much flexibility as the OAPs.🤣

Our dentist has a realistic cut out of himself in reception. It's just too weird to contemplate. A neighbour of ours admitted to speaking to it!! I've got an appointment next week, I'm hoping he's gone to recycling during Covid.
