We finally managed to get out for a local walk late this morning, it was very cold with a freezing NW wind so we didn't get very far. A few pics from the walk area, Muchelney Abbey, the river Parrett (which cut this village off during the floods a few years back) and the Priest's House. Muchelney was a huge Benedictine Monastery but apparently there was a lot of hanky panky with the locals which didn't go down too well with senior officials. 😇

I'm am avid wildlife photographer and we like nothing more than getting set up in a spot where we can sit, drink tea and take photos of all the activity. Recent restrictions have put pay to that, but managed to get some great shots of the moon from the front yard recently...Wildlife photographer turned astro photographer?

If we think getting pitches is proving difficult, I phoned my local MH dealer today to get a quote for fitting more solar and an inverter. Earliest date for that is next April!!! I've booked the habitation check which is due March 2021 before it gets too far past its anniversary date.

Will they do both at same time?
On another subject we have in the last months seen an increase in ferral pigeons in this area ,which it seems have attracted the attention of a sparrow hawk? (its been seen),as we are getting feathers and at times remains ,in and around our gardens

Also our local pub (no kitchen ) has now had a 40ft shipping container in the car park and is making it into a takeaway restaurant ,(not fast food)including a full xmas dinner

Super photos brue. You live in such a lovely area. We did a different route round Ferry Meadows this morning (there are several) and saw this lovely rowan tree absolutely laden with berries. Such a cheerful sight 😊
Have just heard on the news that shopping is now the biggest transmitter of the covid virus - there's a surprise!! We should have been like Wales and been far more strict about 'essential shopping'. They filmed people out shopping for christmas decorations. People who they interviewed said it was 'essential' in order to make us feel more cheerful 😳.

Isn't that good to see the Rowan berries still on the tree Millie! Ours was stripped by the blackbirds...nice to see the blue sky too!
Yes, shopping spreading the virus, I'm not surprised either especially with people moving in and out of different shops.
JVB, the sparrowhawk recently took several pigeons in our locality, must be that time of the year when a plump pigeon is an easy food target. 🦅

brue, sadly our rowan tree has been stripped bare as well.
Please can someone send a sparrowhawk our way🦅

Nice photos Millie and Brue. Cheerful. Our Rowan tree was stripped quite some time ago and our Cotoneaster has gone the same way. At least the Blackbirds have enough food in their bellies.
Talking of which I need to go to the Pet Food warehouse tomorrow as supplies are running low. Shouldn't be a hassle as it's huge and never has more than half a dozen people in on weekdays. 5 minutes max.
Bit of a surprise at lunchtime today. I was doing some prep work for homemade smoked haddock fishcakes when the builder turned up 2 days early. Did we mind? No, carry on. So will have to find an ATM machine as well tomorrow.
Lovely couple of hours sunshine for a walk this morning but some showers this afternoon.
As someone said to me this week Millie, you can't beat stupidity. It refuses to budge. Best given a wide berth. (Probably why I'm Billy no mates😀)

Nice sunny day here today but boy has it been cold, with the wind chill -2c.
More sorting out done today
OH tackled the ironing and vacuuming. This afternoon we went for a walk.
Our neighbours had a rowan tree, they chopped it down back in the summer. I've grown cotoneaster up our trellis, 3 different types all now in full berries, blackbirds like them.

Much cooler here today 14C but sun came out after early dull morning and looks like a frost tomorrow night -2C brr more like November really.
Have got the local blackbirds feeding on a large Pyracantha bush as it has been a good year for berries on it.
Housework beckons tomorrow, hopefully we can get out for a walk in the afternoon.

Warn them not to head into WEST Cheshire, Brue & Millie, Just read the on-line news paper for today & there is a major Avian 'Flu H5N8 outbreak in that area ! Doing my best to keep my local { feral } tweets local even if it means filling up their feeders twice a day
.Now I'm off to fill up MY feeders
, take care keep safe & warm !!0 -
We like that area, brue, and hopefully will get down there next year, fingers crossed. There are so many interesting places to visit in quite a small area.

Yesterday was a washout, literally so, as I got rather wet twice when out walking, but fortunately it cleared up enough for us to get our shopping done in the early evening.
Today was much better and we had a good 3.5 + ml walk on the sands in fine sunny but cool conditions. We've had very high tides this week, with a strong wind behind it, and it's noticeable how much of the dunes have been eroded, with the sand deposited back onto the foreshore. The whole look of the area has changed dramatically. Have just had a shower tonight so may be another damp walk shortly.

Very cold here too today.
Good news, SIL's head teacher has sent out a letter saying they have been given confirmation that all the teachers qualify for informal childcare if required, regardless of their partner's status, as long of course as said partner is working.
So we will lose the weekends, leave them to do some painting themselves, but can otherwise be there to look after Callum, and I can at least make some progress on the rest of the painting and start on the floors.
Still no word from the timber merchant.

We don’t live by the coast, but we do visit it at all times of the year. We used to visit Cornwall in the Winter, and were always astonished at how the tides and weather completely altered the beach landscape of some of our favourite places. Next time down, few months later, all would be back as we recognised it in Summer mode. Powerful forces indeed! 🙂
Yesterday was still a lot of tidying up for us from boiler work. OH took advantage of scaffolding still up to paint side of house, while I got stuck into dusting down, every surface has a fine dust from plasterboard cutting in cellar, despite having all room doors closed. I am on getting rid of some more books as well, trying to be as ruthless as I can. Got wood stain for staircase, going to order new carpeting today. Chosen what we want for new shower area as well, just need to sort out with plumbers next.

Filthy morning here in North Wales.
Had a quick trip to the pet store warehouse and now filled up. Bought extra supplies to see me into the New Year.
Just saying on the What have you seen thread that we have a Greater Spotted Woodpecker drumming away and the local now closed garden centre has Daffodils that look like blooming any day now. We are not even into Winter proper yet and nature thinks it's time to wake up.
Off to pick up a Click and Collect after lunch.

We keep hoping we'll catch sight of the Cranes, another reason to visit! There used to be a CL like site at Muchelney itself but the owners have closed it. It's getting very wet over there and the meadows are filling up with water.
We've got visiting dog today, he's recovering from a dental op. and his owners are recovering from the bill!! He's not quite his usual self although the sound of the postman sent him flying through the cat flap...he's unable to get back through the other way as it involves an upwards ascent, so we have to let him back in, it's easier on the outwards run.

TDA I expect you're pleased to get the house back to yourself, plaster dust is horrible, hope you can get on with the next bits planned.
Kj a relief you can still help out with your grandson and get some work done too. I presume things will change soon for your daughter when she stops working? I hope she is keeping well.
Same horrible weather here WN, just taking a break from housework, not that anyone's going to see my efforts...
(not that they ever notice either...

You got me pondering there WN😁 None dog owner off to a pet warehouse.........🤔 Bird feeding of course, the penny dropped. I spotted first daffodil shoots in our garden yesterday. Foolish things, this is Yorkshire! We are hoping our GSW return again, they were so interesting in the late Spring.
Brue, you dog through the cat flap reminds me of one of our ducks......in was easy, out was impossible. I used to come home from work to find the duck in the big dog water bowl and the kitchen awash. We enjoy Muchelney Abbey as well, try to visit when in area. Somerset Levels are fascinating to explore. I used to stop at a B&B in Glastonbury, half way up the Tor, me and Sis had the attic room, and the views across were stunning. You occasionally got the low lying mist with just one or two high points like Burrow Mump poking through....magical😁

Dull and wet day here today, chilly overnight last night.
Bit of varnishing this morning of something OH made.
OH took the tow car into town to get 2 new tyres fitted, still trying to get the car satnav updated, dealership to come back to us on Monday as to how this is done.
The new travel restrictions coming in today, could be a problem for us come the 11th December, we are to collect the Gkids from their boarding school on that day then take them half way down the road to met up with their parents. Hopefully common sense will come into play and we don't have any problems from the powers that be. When it comes to childcare there does seem to be some leniency.

Dull rainy day here today. Had the mobile engineer out servicing the caravan happy to say it got a clean bill of health no damp etc so much for “leaky Lunars” that’s it 3 years old now and we have never had a damp issue. Did need a new gas regulator though which was why the oven wasn’t working properly so that’s it fixed now. Now to put the carpets back in and shift the van back over to it’s space on the drive out of the way. Will wait until the rain goes off. Have ordered dinner to be delivered from our local pub tonight looking forward to that and they are even sending a take away pint just a little treat lol.
Hope everyone else has a nice weekend

The Great Machine Of State Is Grinding On !!
Brian's just opened a 'orrible cheap looking coarse brown envelope to discover a Love Letter from DWP (
) warning me I am going to get my Winter Heating Allowance soon.
You all should know when it lands, 'coz I'll be bouncing all the way to the corner shop for another daily paper when it arrives

We are back from our three monthly vet venture into Sheffield.☹️ Easy run in, but decided to stop off at nearby Waitrose, for a few things we can’t get elsewhere. It was fine as I went in, but huge queue built up on coming out. Considering it’s a lockdown, it’s nothing like the first one, loads of folks and vehicles out and around. On the plus side, Sheffield’s case rate is now the lowest in South Yorks.
Horrible wet and miserable now here, so stove is lit and there ain’t much activity planned, other than I might just have another hour book sorting.

Brue, 2 places we want to visit next time we're down are Stanton Drew Stone Circle and Brean Down, both mentioned in books by Elly Griffiths that OH has just read. Another spot that has caught my eye is the Castle of Comfort Inn. Just have to find a CL in the right place now.
Another horrible day, raining till early afternoon so that was 2 walks in full wet weather gear, but fortunately it had stopped before our afternoon amble out and perhaps it will be dry for the last one too. Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon's rugby match.

Book sort out is gathering pace. I could do with opening a second hand book shop!😁
Nice sunny morning here, although not sure how long it will last.

Just back from a walk with the dog, and thought I'd catch up with all the news, OH has decided to put his baking skills to the test, so I am keeping out of the kitchen!

Sounds like you are all keeping busy in Lockdown 2, I am finding it much harder this time, just can't seem to find the energy or enthusiasm
. It's been a bit slow at work too, which is unusual as the lead up to Christmas is usually very busy. At least the boss has said I can carry over my remaining holiday to next year when hopefully things will have improved and be back to something more like normal. We have a " zoom " call with the boys this afternoon to look forward to, will be lovely to see them even if it is only on a screen and hear their news.
Off now to catch up with a few more posts and news.

Good Luck to all of you rascals doing exciting things this week-end
. I've found oh so very much sport on the telebox today that I've only just wound myself up to come on CT
. Snooker, rugby union, tennis, football ~~ glad I'm past it !! Pleased I'm indoors at the moment 'cos it has just started lashing down in South Cheshire so the tweets will have to ration out their seed -- I ain't facing rain like that for a couple of hands full of some supplier's best

We did something similar during our lockdown but the books are still here as most charity shops are still to open and there are so many that I want to spread the load. Mind you I have noticed one or two have crept back onto the shelves.
I hate getting rid of books. Some of them though go back over 25 years as they were language books needed to hone French, German and Spanish for trips abroad. Quite unusual to have a casual glance and see conversations taking place about Francs, Deutschmarks and Pesetas.A cold morning for a walk but we were able to get one in and avoid the rain which didn't arrive until after lunch. Managed to move a few hefty pieces of garden furniture such as bird baths back into place after the builders visit the other day. Nice the way they move them out of the way but conveniently forget to put them back. Birds are much happier now.
