It is nice Francis. They have two five pitch fields, we used the more sheltered one at the back. Terrific storm while we were there, glad to have a bit of protection from the wind. They have some nice cottages at Fox and Rabbit as well.
Another CL you might like is Ashfield, at Lockton. It’s basic, tidy grass pitches, but the location is lovely, all you can hear are trains hooting in valley, and birds. Summer opening only. You can walk to Levisham from here (😱) it’s a true Yorkshire up and downer, but the Horseshoe Inn is the sister pub to the Fox and Rabbit, with equally delicious food.
Cycle path/footpath into Dalby Forest runs close to F&R.

We have an increase in covid cases here as well brue. Our son and DIL had notification at the weekend that 10 year old grandson's primary school is closed as from yesterday. They have a rise in infections and they don't think it is safe to stay open. It is all very worrying and disheartening at the moment. I have been doing admin stuff and filing this afternoon - I thought we were supposed to be a paperless society!! Thanks for the reminder about stamps. That is now on the To Do list tomorrow.
Glad you managed to get away Francis. A change of scene is always good. We had a lovely stay at West Ayton site a few years back. We love Yorkshire.

A month ago the covid infection rate for here was 12 per hundred thousand it was this morning 219 mostly in South Hatfield ,is it just coincident that is also the uni student living area?
ps just got update, it is now 196 first time it has shown a reduction,do we see some light

Busy day today in the house. Carpets in lounge, dining room and hall vacuumed and shampooed

Front spare bedroom had a good sorting out, drawers under beds cleared out, some to charity shops some to the skip. Lots of wool now been offered up to the village knitters. I've also sorted out my knitting machine, taken photos and going to put it up for sale.
OH been busy taking garden waste to the recycle centre and dealing with all the things I decided to throw away, knowing him it will all appear in his shed

The 2 base seats have been collected to go back and changed to spring interiors. Travel tv also gone back to be looked at, it would appear its the Satellite receiver that is faulty.
Weather pretty wet today but it didn't stop work getting done, I've defiantly got my mojo back

Don't think I'll bother with a Christmas tree this year or any form of decorations. Without visitors doesn't seem to be any point.

Glad that the work has been going well Kj, hope that now you are in tier 4 it won't stop you getting your bits done.

Almost a mirror image Tammy.
MiL is downsizing her crafting stuff and gave away a dye cutter plus loads of accessories to a friend whose daughter has just been made redundant and wanted one for Christmas. So friend dropped off a bottle of Drambuie today for her. Everyone happy.
I've dismantled a few tables and cupboards in her room and carted them off to the tip today. Yes they did go, not to the non existent shed either.
Gardening also got a bit of work done on it before some rain arrived.
Dinner was ruined when the top came off the salt cellar and the whole lot ended up in it. The fridge is quite empty so we all had a "make do" meal. Interesting was the general consensus.

Don't forget folks it's early closing tonight. Just like being in lockdown.

Another interesting day here sans boiler.........supposed to be an electrician here today to wire it all up, put in new thermostats and control unit. We sat it out while 2pm, then I rang HQ.......who had forgotten to book it for us. We have heat and water, but it's the sitting around wondering WTFlip is going on that is so irritating. OH has put back wall panelling today though, so that is done. The pooch and I did the errands today, bit of shopping, drop off some stuff for Mum and Sister. On the plus side, rates in South Yorks are coming down now thank goodness. It was certainly quiet out today, roads and retail park where I called for dog food.
Finally, this had me chuckling tonight. I always think the Turner Prize is such a load of overhyped rubbish, but I love this send up of it.....

We passed through the tunnel quite a few years ago, can’t remember where we were going. I couldn’t recognise the place at all. We used to use a pub at the western (?) end of the main road that ran in front of the factory. Our hotel was in St Albans (The Haven). A bit of a dump, so probably closed now.

Did you read the entry that won last year......hilarious😂😂😂

We used to sometimes have a drink in The Comet on the way to see my family in Arkley. Happy days.
The infection rate here is rising rapidly as well. Our son and DIL had notification at the weekend that 10 year old grandson's school would close for at least 2 weeks as there were too many cases to be safe. Also a friend is in self isolation as her grand-daughter who visited her just before lockdown had a positive test a few days later. It is all very worrying
Thanks for the remindee about the stamps brue. It is on today's To Do list.

Millie. Hope your family and your friend keep well. A neighbour tested positive recently after a family visit to the London area. She had mild symptoms so is well now, we all heard about it after the event but it shows how people can create quite a long trail.
A damp day here, tomorrow some major hedge trimming but we can leave "our man" to do it and maybe go for a walk locally. Trying to do Christmas cards, slow progress!

Brue - Christmas cards - thats on my To Do list as well .......

I heard recently that the virus is spreading quickest and furthest from the mixing of households. I am just hoping that people are taking notice of that in this current lockdown. I know it is difficult as we miss our family but it is as it is. I am not sure what we will do after this lockdown ends (maybe) as we haven't been mixing with family and friends much indoors anyway but mostly in gardens and on walks. Let's hope we don't get a wet winter. I can cope with half an hour in a garden in the cold by wrapping up well but teeming rain is a different matter.

Horrible miserable wet day here, so we decided to do the food shop in the hope that not many folk will be out and about. It worked, shops not to busy even though we were a bit later than normal.
Not sure what I'm going to do this afternoon, far to wet for anything outdoors, so will have to be more mask making and sorting out of more cupboards and drawers. Might bake a cake

Not sure if I've ever mentioned it before but I hate wet weather

Millie, we took ourselves off to Broughton shopping centre this morning. Has a big Tesco Extra plus a M&S Foodhall. About 2 miles from the English border. Mrs WN does the M&S as it's not to my liking in there. She was talking to the cashier, as you do, and she mentioned that yesterday she was serving a man who quite brazenly commented that he had travelled from Manchester to pick up some clothing from Primark, almost next door to M&S, for his daughter so thought he would do some food shopping to justify it.
In Tesco we had a similar tale only this time the man was from Rochdale. Both cashiers were fuming but obviously not their place to challenge them. They did get some revenge by mentioning that the police are making regular sweep through the carpark and fining cars registered as owners living in England.
As both of them said they were and have been following the regulations so were justifiably annoyed.
We noticed it as just as we were about to enter Tesco the Airbus, locally called the Whale, took off from British Aerospace just opposite Tesco. Locals just ignored it but a lot of the crowd stood and watched. Obviously for most it would not have been expected.
Tesco had it's normal low volume crowd in but the car park was significantly fuller than our last visit 2 weeks ago, admittedly when non food shops were closed.

Hi TG just to cheer you we have had our last day of warm weather here hit 22C which is very warm for this time of year here, back to normal from tomorrow and a lot cooler at the weekend.
OH has been pressure washing around the outside of the house today and the steps so looks a lot better now, amazing how much kit you need to do it as he pumps it out of a large water butt as we are on a water meter.
Just had my 1 hour walk down the road and into a local field which the wild boars have been busy in, a few cars about and 1 local chainsawing in his wood getting ready for 2 years time to burn it.
Take care and stay safe folks.

That has cheered me up no end

so this time next year as we are making our way south do you think you could whistle up the same kind of weather
it has stopped raining for the time being but the forecast is for snow and sleet and getting much colder. More sorting out done, I've now got 2 drawers under the spare bed empty, sssshhh don't tell the OH

I put various things on our local FB page and most have now gone, anything left will go to the charity shop tomorrow. I'm being ruthless as I want to get rid of some of the furniture we have and to do so means getting rid of the stuff in it. Why do we need 4 pairs of binoculars and a monocular
2 have to go. WN we had shoppers, drinkers and golfers coming through to our LC area from the tier 3 areas. Our numbers have now gone up and we are now in tier 3
doesn't make any difference to us just now as we aren't going anywhere but its annoying as we had very low numbers before that.I read in one of the online newspapers that cars etc. were being stopped at Dover and the tunnel. Some folk have been fined for trying to travel to France and beyond. The police turned them away from the ferry at Dover (no fine) then they were stopped again at Folkstone trying to cross on the tunnel so got fined that time. Not sure if this is only going to happen during England's lockdown but its a stark reminder to folk that they are not supposed to be travelling.
The little ginger one has made it a point of law up here for tier 4, that if they are caught they will be in trouble. We have been 'asked' not to travel outside our LC area if in tier 3 or 4 but will they
oh yes they will, to go Christmas shopping

WN it makes me so furious that people so flagrantly break the rules and then feel pleased with.themselves that they have got away with it. How dare they think that becsuse they have also done some food shopping as well as a visit to Primark that makes it OK. Are they so ignorant that they think that means they cant spread the virus because they have done their food shopping. Our eldest son has a very poor immune system as the result of having a benign brain tumour removed 11 years ago and has just been told that he has to go back into self isolation because of our rising infection rate and he is struggling because he also has anxiety and depression (also as a result of the op) Also like you OH has kidney disease which is why I am so furious with the selfish people who just ignore the rules. Sorry for the rant but I am feeling very depressed today.

You are allowed a rant Millie. I think this second lockdown has been harder on some of us. If only people stuck to the rules and thought about others.
Hope we get some sunshine tomorrow, at least that's something cheerful! There was a beautiful crescent moon in the south tonight, I tried to take a photo!

How lovely brue. We hope to go for a walk tomorrow. I think it is going to be much colder tomorrow but dry and bright. We are watching the Repair Shop at the moment - such a lovely programme with such talented people. Did anyone else watch the repeats of 'Yes Prime Minister' on BBC4 last night? I can watch those again and again. I hope they show some more. If not hopefully I can find them on catch up somehow.

Millie
A lot of the Yes Minister programmes are on YouTube. The episodes won't be as well organised as BBC4 but there are lots there.
For my birthday in July my youngest son got me a special jigsaw puzzle made of his two dogs. (Photobox do them and they are made by Ravensburger) The trouble is these two dogs are sat on and expanse of beige tiles so it's quite challenging to say the least!!! About a third to a half way through it at the moment.

Pretty wet here today, a slight lull in the downpour between 2 and 4pm.
Did another coat of white paint on the new walls and ceilings today, so I think we are maybe almost ready for the final colour ......pale grey in the bathroom and pale green in the bedroom, white on the ceilings.
As the bedroom was the original kitchen in the house, built almost 100 years ago, DD has decided to restore the ceiling height to nearer the original, and put in some features that would have been in the other original rooms, namely an Art Deco style cornice, and a picture rail.
The room that was originally the dining room is the only one that has been left mainly as it was originally, the Art Deco cornice, a nice fireplace, wood panelling, high skirtings, wooden floor, and a picture rail, so she has that to copy.
We have see some film from the early 90s when the previous owners bought the house, they were responsible for the lowered ceilings and dodgy modernising, and a couple of the living rooms still had ornate cornices, the cornices are probably still there, hidden above the ceilings. She is itching to take the new ceilings down and re-instate the original features.
Not sure how much more I will be able to do now we are moving to level 4. Informal childcare is still permitted, but only for children of essential workers, and as a teacher SIL qualifies. What is not clear is whether both parents need to be essential workers.
DD cannot of course work in the afternoons if she has to look after Callum, and for their finances it is essential she can carry on working as much as possible, especially as she will be going on a years maternity leave in mid January and for that year will average only half her normal salary. They had planned for this, but not for a pandemic, nor for the unexpected expense of the problems found during the bedroom and bathroom renovations!
We are happy to carry on with childcare duties, but would not want to break any rules, so have asked them to seek guidance on the situation from SIL's school. When the schools here were to resume in June, his head teacher took advice from on high and sent out a letter confirming that informal childcare was permitted as teachers were required to be in school. The occupation of the teacher's spouse/partner was deemed irrelevant then.
We shall see.

K, we have researched interior decor styles for our house, as we bought it with lots of lovely period details in place, like coving, windows etc..... We have done a massive amount of renovation, but have tried to combine retaining/replacing period features with modern comforts. One source guide we used was a book written byJudith Miller of Miller Antique Guides fame. Might make a nice little Xmas present for someone interested?

Thanks TTDA, an interesting book.
DD has researched the history of the house, knows who built it and who was the first owner, she also has the original plans, though a few bits were not built exactly to the plan, as in many cases!
Back in the 70s the then owner, a wealthy widow, unfortunately had the place split into 2 flats, removing the lovely staircase and a beautiful window on the half landing, replacing that with a new external staircase to the upper floor.
She moved her bedroom, with an en suite, to the former front lounge, and added a large, flat roofed extension to the rear, housing 2 further bedrooms, 2 more bathrooms, a toilet, and a utility area, and a separate hideous 2 storey flat roofed extension to the sode, housing 2 sun rooms
The upper floor flat was used by her housekeeper and used the 3 original bedrooms, and the original bathroom, making one bedroom into a lounge and one into a kitchen. The work was done well and ceiling heights matched the originals.
Then in the early 90s the whole place was bought by 2 brothers, the upper floor extended above the flat roof extension, but not supported by it, and the kitchen moved to the present position at the front, the old kitchen and scullery becoming a bedroom with en suite, and a store room. She has some film of how it looked at that time.
Then, about 8/9 years back, the ground floor was extended again to the side, incorporating the sun room and joining the kitchen and lounge to make a huge U shaped living area. At that point some more nice original windows went, ceilings and doorways were lowered and some bathrooms were revamped.
So unfortunately very few original features have survived.

That’s some history K. Ours is mid Victorian. One of ten buildings on a tiny little Lane. Some are semi’s, some are detached. Some have been detached, then semi’s and now detached again! Some still have mews flats for horses then cars.
Dad was into local history, so he found details of every person who had ever lived in our home, right from new build to us, including their occupations. We have the original deeds. A man walking past one day stopped to say hello to my OH who was tinkering with car outside. He explained he had been raised in our house with his Grandparents, so we invited him in for a cuppa and he confirmed a lot of the house’s history, mouldings and ceiling roses ripped out, panel doors boarded over, alcoves boarded up (better than chimney breasts out at least) Bit by bit we have renovated and restored rooms, found oilcloth wallpapers, old newspapers stuffed into sash window, found the still working sash blinds hidden in panels, stripped decades of paint off of cast iron staircase fittings. It was slow progress at first, as we were both working long hours and bought a horse that took up all our weekends. But as we earned more, and get the time, things got done. Attic is the last major project. It had been a bedroom, but we needed to completely re roof, so now doing interior, after adding velux windows. They aren’t Victorian though😁
