We also still have a landline..OH is not keen on anything mobile either. He reluctantly has a basic mobile for phone calls only when out and about but both of us prefer to use the landline when at home. I read the other day that quite a few people have reinstalled their landline since lockdown. I hope Mrs WN feels better tomorrow.

Last time our Virgin contract came up, I looked at losing our landline, as we never use it. All I wanted was the BB element, no TV or anything else. I think they do offer a BB package only, but not to existing customers. Anyway, to cut short what turned out to be a two day negotiation, we got the price of our upgraded BB discounted, kept the landline with free weekend calls for nothing, and they threw in an unlimited calls, unlimited texts, 5gb data sim for an extra £2 per month. That’s on a 24 month contract, which as we are unlikely to change from Virgin, we were happy to go with. It pays to be hardball with Virgin. The best ploy is to get through to the disconnection/ leaving us people, as they are the ones you can really negotiate with, and are based in UK rather than elsewhere.

We can't get Virgin in our area Ttda. In fact for many years we could only really rely on BT so have been with them forever. Doesn't stop me playing hardball each renewal though, especially as we now have alternatives.
Thanks Millie. Mrs WN still a bit queasy. No other reason that I can think of for refusing a glass of wine tonight. Decided to follow her example. The things I go through for her.

So sorry you have had to curtail your trip TG. I hope you manage to get away again soon. So many plans distrupted this year 😪

We have a landline which is also linked with the internet with Orange over here and we had fibre installed free just over 2 months ago we also have mobiles with orange, OH being ex IT was glad when we had fibre installed much faster speed, we have one set of friends and he does not have a mobile really hates technology and will not even look at a computer screen but she has an iphone given to her by her son and uses it a lot more than she did with the old mobile and they still use the landline a lot. We did lose Orange this week major issue but now all back to normal then the next day we had 3 power cuts great joy as the last one was in the dark thankfully for candles and wind up torch, again they were doing major work in the area and next week the other side of the village will have power outages. Had some great weather this week even had tea and coffee outside again today but now going very windy and a lot of rain on Saturday. OH said we have had just over 60,000 corvid-19 cases in the last 24 hours not good news, will not be going anywhere soon.
Take folks stay safe and have a good weekend.

I see Sainsbury’s are doing away with lots of front of house staff from butchery, deli, fish counters. Our Tesco went this way a couple of years ago, and it’s not the same store. Very sad for these folks.
That seems a strange move for Sainsbury's as I had always considered them to be a bit more upmarket than most. Having said that they are not a regular shopping place for us. Taking away the service counters puts them on the same level as Aldi and Lidl. Hopefully Waitrose won't go down the same route as we like buying our fish from the counter and sometimes meat. Pre packed is fine most of the time but when you want something different it's nice to have a choice. Somehow doubt Morrisons will follow suit as they make quite a big thing of their service counters.

Thanks Millie, our choice so shouldn't moan given that none of you guys can get away just now. We will head out again soon if we are allowed.
We used to be with BT but changed to Plusnet a few years ago, we pay landline a year in advance so get it cheaper, then pay monthly for the broadband. Works out a lot cheaper than BT even though Plusnet is part of the BT family. OH has a mobile contract with 3, I have one with Lebara £5 a month 2gb of data unlimited calls and texts. No contract can cancel at anytime or change package. So far I'm very happy with the service. We only continue with the landline because in the village mobile signal is pretty dire on all networks.

Yes that is the problem with Virgin, Mum only lives three miles away, but no Virgin up there either.
Hope the tum is feeling a bit better😕

Purely mercenary DK, they no longer require as much human presence in the stores, due to the growth in online shopping, and it’s likely that a skilled fishmonger/butcher will be paid slightly more. On the plus side, it might just benefit proper independent fishmongers and butchers a bit more. Some outlying villages have such re opening around us.

It may well be but I would ask where is the point of difference with the discounters? Home deliveries have rocketed since the outbreak of COVID but will that continue in such volume once the pandemic is under control. I am not so sure that they do use what would be classed as skilled fishmonger and butchers. The chap on the meat counter in our local Waitrose was on the wine department a year ago!!! My eldest son worked in Waitrose when he was a student and he was trained to serve on the fish counter which he did for some time.

Wish we had a fishmonger nearby Ttda. Tesco closed it down when they moved in and that was years ago. If I want a decent fishmonger I have to go to a district of Chester, Upton, which still has an excellent one, or did at the start of the first lockdown, or the one in Chester Indoor market. If we are in Waitrose we will often buy something from them. They are a bit better than average but nothing like a decent fishmonger. The French and Spanish really do leave our supermarkets standing when it comes to Fresh Fish and Meat counters.
Lovely morning again and Mrs WN feeling a lot better so she joined me on my walk. Very quiet on the roads, much quieter than during the week. Passed by 3 cars in 2 hours before re-entering the village.

It’s our monthly weekend off and our first plan was to go away in the caravan for a couple of nights, but we cancelled it (before lockdown ) as we didn’t feel comfortable mixing with people, even on a camp site.
So, after doing some repairs to my ancient pine food cupboard (whisky bottles were the only thing holding up a shelf) we’re doing nothing much.
But tonight we’re dressing up and having a posh three course meal - all a bit retro, but favourites (and easy to cook).
Prawn Cocktail, Beef Strogonoff (our own beef), Raspberry Pavlova. Washed down with Chapel Down English wine.

This is how you push your luck! 😱 in our house dogs are strictly floor dwellers unless otherwise invited and thats very rare and in Dora's case non existent due to cultivating good training and habits.......
After a good 2 hour run on the local.estate, including 3 separate runs with other puppies - even had trouble with keeping up with the 3rd 🤣, plus a couple of assisting on tidying the garden. Dad settle on the conservatory sofa for a post lunch snooze - allowed as he's been building up this week, mum goes for a shower 🚿. I make myself comfy.........

I think the Med countries really understand fish. We used to buy it off the docks in Newlyn, and growing up I can recall Mum and Dad buying it fresh from places like Hull and Grimsby, which weren’t too far away. I can’t get over how much of our wonderful shellfish goes to Continent. Our indoor market still has a very good fishmongers, so I hope to make better use of this.

Arrived back home late afternoon, had a good run down the road came via Grandtown on Spey rather than going along to Inverness.
The drive was lovely and the Autumn colours wonderful, sunshine and blue skies.
Stopped off at House of Bruar it was chocka, all car parks very busy. We managed to find a space in the corner of one and put the kettle on. Nice bit of lunch sat in the glorious sunshine what more can you ask.
Then went a bit further down the road to Pitlochry where we found a decent parking spot, so took a walk up to the dam, you can't go over it just now. Then into the town which was fairly busy but not heaving. A fair few shops have closed down so it looks a bit sad.
Back to the MH and on our final bit of drive, got as far as Dunkeld and hit a fog bank. That was it all the way home, flipping cold and miserable. Seems its been like that for the last 2 days.
Hasn't put off the drinkers though they are still stood outside in the hotel car park, what a load of numpties.
All now unloaded and put away just got washing to put on and dinner to cook.
Good news from USA, someone needs to tell the yellow one though

WN glad OH is feeling a bit better today.
We've had a great 6 days away, was definitely worth going so will be doing it again soon.

Just seen the weather forecast TG. Showed Stirling ar 4° and fog bound so was hoping the journey back for you was OK. I hate the fog when driving. Sounded like a worthwhile trip.
I was "talking" to the near 2 year old who had just been decamped from mum and dads car and live opposite. Asked how he fancied his chances against the Orange One. He gave me a more coherent answer than if I'd asked t'other one.

Our daughter's partner has been crushing apples all day in our garden (permitted under working rules I think?)
Tomorrow he'll be playing the Last Post at East Knoyle church in Wilts. This year it will have to be outside but I think this is no bad thing because everyone will hear it.
Sir Christopher Wren was born in this village...I might do ok in a Moulesy quiz with that one bit of knowledge!!
