If not bought from new,   then it could be how the last owner ,treated it,our  latest Kia ,  had new tyres on when  we bought it at 24000 miles , when our last one still had the originals on at 36000 miles

Now that I've organised dinner, I'm back to an ongoing task.

My late father-in-law kept a diary in 1940 (when we was 20) and I have transcribed it and Tweet an entry every day.

    https://twitter.com/1940atStrickley

We only have the one year, but his brother's diaries from 1935 have survived, and his family have lent me them, so I can do something similar. I'm now on February 1938 and as well as notes about the weather and farm work, there are these two entries.

    Tuesday 22nd February

    Cat went with chick.

    Wednesday 23rd February

    Cat gone with 2 chicks.

    Shot cat.

frown Poor old Dick....hope he wasn't a farm hand. wink

I like the old diaries, especially the country ones. We've got Parson Woodforde round here from Castle Cary, a long life with all sorts of goings on.

Lovely and sunny here so far today, ground white with frost though first thing.

Bags all packed and ready for the off to Glasgow ready for our flight out in the morning, bit of lunch first then another quick tidy round.

Sunshine here we come (hopefully) cool

Play nice everyone while we are away and above all stay safe.

We too had problems with wear of brakes and discs our various Volvos, and on our XC 90 the original tyres only lasted for 18000 miles.

We had 2 new sets in total, and both of those lasted over 30000 miles.

We have a V70 and had to replace the discs at the last MOT also the front tyres only lasted 14k miles. Great car and tow car but it likes eating tyres.

We have decided to postpone our planned weekend away in the van this week. We have forecast for snow and it is very cold here the site we were going to is in the countryside on a hill so likely to get snow. Canโ€™t go next week but will hopefully get away in a couple of weeks.

Left the ladies at the entrance to Harlow Carr and set off on my walk. 5 minutes later I got a phone call from OH. MiL had fallen and cut her forehead. Fortunately there was a good looking young doctor in the queue behind her and she allowed him to examine her (of course she would, the strumpet). Good job it was her forehead. Anything else might have been a catastrophe.smile

Anyway I was told that she might be well enough to continue, so 10 minutes and lots of sympathy later together with a sticking plaster she decided all was well and away they went.

They enjoyed the rest of the visit particularly the embroidery exhibition.

It was a nice sunny day but one where you had to keep moving.

Thanks, ttda, for the suggestion. We may run out of time as MiL wants to visit Pateley Bridge tomorrow. I think a quiet day with a pub lunch called for.

About the best  day of the week today, if a bit cold, so went and fetched the MH from storage. Washed it including the roof, then topped up the LPG and fuel tanks ready for our next outing in March. It absolutely hammered it down on the way back to the storage โ˜น๏ธ But was still reasonably clean when we parked it up.๐Ÿ˜€

Oh dear, poor MiL. We had similar a few months ago, thought Mum was safe sat down.....but no, something caught her eye, whack on the edge of a church pew. Hauled off to A&E, we did the triage thing, all signs fine, decided against projected six hour wait, put her to bed, that was it. Talk about game! We know where Airedale District General is located for next week๐Ÿ˜‚

    Quiet pub lunch sounds good๐Ÿ‘

WN. Oh dear your poor MIL. It must have shaken her up a bit. I hope she will be OK. How lucky that there was a handsome young doctor in the vicinity ๐Ÿ˜

Brue I did laugh about your mouse. We have been there ๐Ÿ˜‚

There has been a perishingly cold wind here today and our boiler chose today to go on the blink - no hot water and no heating ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. At least we have a fire in the living room and we have unearthed a couple of fan heaters and an electric radiator. When the guy comes to hopefully sort the boiller out tomorrow we are going to ask about changing the shower over the bath in our main bathroom from gas to electric so at least we can have a hot shower. At least the dishwasher and washing machine are cold fill so no problem. We shall go Bannatyne to have a shower in the morning. We are taking our eldest son out for lunch tomorrow as it is his 50th birthday. DIL has arranged a big family meal out on Saturday but as it is a surprise for him we must make no mention of it tomorrow ๐Ÿคซ

Hope you get your heating sorted asap Millie, we've got electric showers and I'm glad we made that decision. Enjoy the meals out with your son! Our eldest daughter is 50 this year too, she has planned a special holiday in the Caribbean ( original one lost due to Thomas Cook events.)

Our thwarted plans today worked out quite well, I went off to a village fund raising event, I took a bottle of wine for the raffle and won one so Mr Brue was pacified. wink Then a nice pub lunch, a new adventure for our puppy, she behaved well. Then the very large parcels arrived for our friend and a new cordless vac for me...not really exciting but our son had left his old cordless Dyson for us last year and it really had seen better days. I'm trying a Shark this time round. As the other parcels where fishing equipment I thought that was quite appropriate!

Do hope WN's Mum in law is ok, the thing I liked most about Harlow Carr was Betty's....laughing

Sorry to hear of MIL's fall, but glad to read that there was no major damage done, WM, and was fit enough to continue and enjoy her visit to Harlow Carr's. Guess that you missed the snow that's about. Did you manage a good walk?

Laughed at your mouse story brue, and pleased that your OH was able to put it outside safely, and for that was rewarded with that bottle you wonwink

Sorry to hear about the boiler breakdown, millie, hope that your man can get it fixed tomorrow.

TG have an enjoyable, sundrenched trip away for this horrible weather.

No we didn't miss the snow Nellie. That was Mondays delight. Supposed to have some tonight.

Unfortunately, MiL seems none the worse for the fall but I understand the paving slab has had to be replaced.

Ard you liking your new CL?

Forgot to thank Brue for the laugh. I bet he said "eek"!smile

    Edit - I bet Millie mentions Saturday!!surprisedlaughing

A fine but cool day so we had a good day out after getting the washing done. Went to Long Melford, walked down to view Kentwell Hall before looking round the very impressive church. Unfortunately neither the hall or the NTs Melford Hall were open, however that's a good reason to return at a different time of the year.  Wandered round the interesting village before heading over to the historic medieval town of Lavenham. Another very interesting church and many attractive buildings. Stopped off at Aldi to restock on the way back to the van.

Preparing for V-Battle day this coming Friday........yup, the annual haggle with Virgin Media for renewal of our Broadband Contract. I am now fully armed up to the hilt, and shall don my charm offensive suit on Friday morning. I also have the phone number to get direct to someone who can make decisions, rather than spout barely intelligible waffle at me, which is always a bonus!๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Back home after 2 hectic and fairly emotional days.  Lovely weather today so a real pleasure to drive across the fantastic Cotswolds.

Apply online for passport renewal last Friday, sent my old passport on Saturday and received my new passport this morning,  great service

Ours were Continentals too!  We replaced with Nokian mud and snow first time, and Vredestein mud and snow second time.

We had similar rubbish wear from the original Continentals on another Volvo.

Cold, with some snow flurries here,   but it is not lying.

28k seems ok to me? Our front tyres (Continentals) lasted 25k on the Kuga. What are other folks getting out of their fronts?

Little bit of snow during the night here in MK. Not really laying on the roads.

Yesterday they collected the last of the kitchen waste from the back garden.

No doubt a relief to see your outside space once, David!

Got the all clear at the GPs this morning but have to see a physio about a shoulder problem next week, least of my worries so I hope that can be sorted. Was surprised to get a quick appointment at our local community hospital.

OP good to hear your recent visit went well, the Cotswolds do look wonderful in clear weather. My passport runs out soon too, I hear I might get the old blue colour if I wait a short while. If only the "portrait" didn't show the passing of the years!! wink
