I have a few TDA, but not as many as I’d like, just don’t have the space. I’m undecided about ‘stripey’ roses. Sometimes I think they’re spectacular, other times they seem a bit...garish? That one looks good though, nice deep colour, accentuated by the white edge. For sentimental reasons, my favourite is ‘Peace’, it was my dads favourite, and I can still remember it growing in his garden. Last year, we ‘rescued’ two climbing roses that were hidden behind a deep bed of shrubs and suchlike. They were very thin and spindly due to lack of light. I hacked them both down to around 18”, and gave them a feed. In no time at all they put on growth and are now looking very promising. When I built the pergola, I planted ‘Golden Showers’ against it. It took a while to get going, but flowers readily, it’s even got a few flowers now. Most of the roses we have were inherited from the previous owners, so not a clue what they are. It’s surprising that with just a little care, they are so rewarding. I guess the biggest problem we have is ‘Black Spot’ frown Later in the year, I’ll post some pics.

Very mixed weather here today, several hours of brilliant sunshine interspersed with snow and sleet, quite cold too.

Campsies were totally white this morning, but all snow gone when we returned home at 17.00.

Work on "the house" progressing slowly, as usual.  All skirtings etc in the utility room now fitted, now working on the unit plinths.

Next stage will be to complete the tiling.

We are supposed to be taking caravan to our dealer for servicing tomorrow, but forecast is bad, will see how it goes and maybe ring them to see how it is where they are.  Not keen to tow empty van there in strong winds.

Agree about stripey, they have to be a good one. I was given the task of looking after the Roses at Brodsworth House, I spent over two years trying to identify them as most of the labels had disappeared. But I did know that the ones put it were not dated after 1905, so this meant that most of them were what are known as Old roses things like Gallicas, Bourbons, Alba’s and Damask roses, mainly French in origin. They tend to only flower once, in one mad flush. When I started to put a few in at home, I went for some of these because they have fabulous scents. I try and make sure I do look after them, but I’ve got some nice repeat flowerers now as well. I use them as burglar deterrents as well, Climbing Albertine is better than razor wire!😂

We've been very fortunate, brue, coming over to this side of the country. It has been wild at times and damp too but apart from a couple of Sunday's we been able to get out each day, and only had to delay moving on once due to Storm Ciara.

I must admit, we are fair weather tourers, but all this talk of others on their travels is making me twitchysmile Whilst driving home from our daughters house, the sun came out and was a sultry 12c outside cool Can’t wait to get out there and shake off the cabin fever.

We have started booking for just before Easter, hoping to set out on 28/03, away for about 4 weeks if all goes to plan.

Van has to be serviced first, hoping all will be well. Supposed to be going to dealer tomorrow.

Have just fitted some new LED lights in kitchen and bedroom, above cupboards.

Where are you off to Kj? Weather permitting, we may well head for the CC site at Broadway, sometime in March.

First stop is CAMC Silverbank  at Banchory, to visit OH's second cousin in Aberdeen, then north to a CL Gamrie Bay.

After that possibly CCC Dingwall, then CCC Poolewe, then south possibly to Glencoe.  Decisions still to be made!

Cannot justify the cost of CAMC sites over Easter, so will be using CLs and CCC sites.........Easter in Scotland is not a peak period with the CCC, plus we get the over 60s discount

We keep meaning to get up to Scotland. In the past, we haven’t had available midge-free time slots because of work commitments. Now we’re both retired, we have more opportunities to get away, so maybe this coming September we can make it up there. Always wanted to visit Glencoe. We too find CC sites a bit expensive as compared to CL’s, so will use them sparingly.

Was hoping to get out for a round of golf, but yet again dashed by the rain ☹️

Woke up to a layer of snow, fortunately outside the bedroom window!smile

It's not deep and it's started to thaw so the lazy morning I promised MiL coming to fruition. If it thaws out completely then we'll head out for lunch and maybe get to Ripon cathedral as MiL wants to see it. If not then Harrogate beckons. Decisions, Decisions. Coffee first though. Enjoy your day folks.

Wet sleet here this morning, forecast right checking  MET office, other's forecasting heavy snow for our area but I think MET office is more accurate.

We are off through to Stirling midday for OH's appointment with consultant, hope the roads going through are ok, it can get a bit bad around Auchterarder.

Most things sorted for our flight to Lanzarote on Thursday morning, clothes and wash bags laid out ready to pack. We have opted to spend the night at a hotel  through in Glasgow just in case the weather is bad.  Last thing I want is another problem with snow and getting there like year before last.

MillieH, it must be almost time for you going to Tenerife isn't it ? I see the airports in the Canaries are now back open after their sand storm. smile

Wet and gusting 44 knots down here. Ventured up to the local shops for a 2 litre of red top. Had thought about cleaning the roof of the MH which is starting to show little bits of green around the hatches but decided to await better conditions. I think it may be some time looking at the forecast for the next week. Not much incentive to book anywhere ATM.

Rain stopped at about 10:30, but still windy but not enough to divert one from Sopping Duties.  OOPS that should read SHOPPING Duties, it's not that wet yet !!

CY have a chat with those clever folk a page or two back ==  they just might be able to identify whats growing up top !!  Could be a rare species  and worth a shekel or three money-mouth

Headed off to Ripon as the weather was a bit squiffy underfoot for any extended walking. Went to the cathedral. Unfortunately they are undertaking renovation of the Misericords and most of that area is off limits. Still, MiL pleased with what she saw.

Then to the Royal Oak for a longish lunch which we all enjoyed.

Lots os extra surface water on the roads due to snow melt.

    Think we'll stay local tomorrow.

Lots of rain here. Just spoken to son, they've had lots of snow in the NE. Hope you get safely off on your holiday TG and also the consultation goes well. I was surprised to see the sandstorm in the Canaries, it's amazing how far these things travel.

Hoping for one dry day this week to get out for a walk at NT Stourhead, dog walking rules have improved so we can take our new pet (all day dog walking just now, after March 7th, dogs allowed after 2pm) and might get lunch in the local Spread Eagle pub. Haven't had a meal out for ages!

Been very rainy here today and cold we had a bit of snow this morning. We are hoping to get away in the caravan this weekend but may not get as the weather is supposed to get worse and there is a possibility of snow. Will leave it until Wednesday before deciding  but hoping we will get.

Windy but at least the rain has stopped.  Been trying to sort out a printer today but with little success.  Off to Bath and then Cheltenham tomorrow and Wednesday so hope the weather behaves.  Anyone else travelling take care. As I pass Diane T’s tomorrow I will give her a blast on the horn, she won’t hear but it’s the thought that counts as I think I missed her birthday 🎂🎂🥂

I got up just before six this morning as I had to go to Consett, yes twice in three days but this time for business, and no snow then it started at 6 and really heavily, by 6.30 a good few inches. Got the call to say that Consett was more or less cut off and inadvisable to try to get there. At my wife's work people were taking four hours plus to get into Newcastle from there and the same from Northumberland north of Blyth.

But by 1pm all gone. And some late sunshine.

Good news TG and enjoy your holiday.   Have had a lovely few days here upto 20C today  but all change from tomorrow with rain and wind possibly for the next fortnight not good so we have been busy in the garden OH with ride on for part of the plot as low on fuel then helped me put three more hedging shrubs in just wish we had lovely soft soil instead of solid stone on most of the plot so OH got his big hammer/drill kit out eventually got enough depth for me to plant the shrubs looks a lot better now I also put two new lavender plants, both now got a few aches but  prefer to be outside than stuck inside, will have to find a few indoor chores now rain on the way.

    Good news TG👍

Tree day went well here. Hard rain first thing this morning, but luckily it eased off and we did get a touch of sunshine before strong winds arrived. Our trees no longer sway madly now......neighbours are booking in to get theirs sorted. We now have lots of lovely firewood, which will mature nicely in our big garage, and lots of chippings for garden. Just need it to dry up nicely for a few weeks now. Pond is full of frogspawn, daffs are coming out, snowdrops and crocus in full glory. Spotted some snakeshead fritts doing well so far, they should be lovely later on.

No, we have not stopped in that area before, but the reviews are good.  Will post a review after we return home.

They request a £30 deposit if booking more than, if I remember correctly, 3 nights.  Looks good in the photos.

Glad that your OH's consultation went well TG and you can get away as planned. You could ask for a house call next time as it would be easier and cheaper all round. Our local NHS too have admin problems......I was promised an appointment for a bone density scan and requested a phone call giving the date as we are away. They sent out a letter to home but fortunately our son went up from W Midlands for a few days last week and found the letter. They wanted me there during 1st week in March when we're still on tour. Phoned up and although they hadn't started their April diary they started it for me and let me choose when I wanted to go. So well done Kendal Hospital X-Ray dept.

Glad that you got the trees trimmed ok, Tda, considering the weather you've been having lately.

Shame that part of the cathedral was a no go area but pleased that you were able to see most of it. Hope that you don't have any more snow tomorrow, and can get out and about.

It rained for most of the morning and some of the afternoon here. Managed an hour or so walk in Tunstall Forest, but needed wellies and brollies to keep dry. Onto Orford but too damp and windy to get a decent walk so only a short look round. Most jobs done now in preparation for our next move tomorrow.

Welcome!
