Due to price we have only used 5 club sites for a total of about 10 days in the last 4 years as opposed to using 30+ CL's in the same period.  CL's are the jewel in the crown of the CC.

Like you I tend to stay on CLs rather than CC sites, partly due to pitch fees but also prefer the 5 van option. Having said that I was just checking the prices for next week at Blackpool South and the total
pitch fee for two members is
only £15.65p and that is no more than the pitch fees on many CLs in the area.Undecided

Yes that is with the midweek discount but it does show that contrary to what some posters think, the CC is already making the effort to attract members in what would otherwise be quieter weeks. Smile

After 7pages I am still waiting to see a post for a hotel, bed and breakfast, cottage or static caravan thats Cheaper? When such accomodation becomes cheaper we're off. Until then we stay as vanners, sorry, but I dont see the point in moaning about prices. You have to look at the bigger picture when you have a van, not just a one off night. I cannot on a per night price basis, including running costs, beat this style of holiday. I walk past Euston station twice daily, some Friday nights the Ibis hotel will gladly tap you up £199 for a room for 2 with a continental breakfast(wow). I appreciate the costs for some may seem extreme but its all relative.

St Jo of course when we were working we could and did pay silly prices for liesure activities but like a lot of pensioners we have a fixed income which is about 25% of our previous salaries!  This will and does concentrate the mind somewhatLaughing

Not only CC but the Cls also seem to have increased their prices substantially. Is there a club agenda here.Conversley the commercial sites have reduced their prices and are making some really good offers out of peak. Next week we are going to the Lleyn peninsular. No
CC site but basic Cls are £14. Haven are offering hard standing  super ptches at £13/14. during the same period and in the same area.

Fact.  Hundreds of hotels, B & Bs and other accommodation offer discounts in low to mid seasons.  They may cost more than £20 a night, but you do not have to lug a caravan around the country so a savings there.  You don't have to make up the beds and wash
    the sheets.

Most are located in towns or cities so many attrractions are within easy reach.  Many accept dogs and children.  Some have additional facilities like pubs, restaurants etc. However you cannot really compare the two.

We were brought up in those times as well but while we still watch costs CC charges are still well within our reach and their sites do dominate those we use.

This obviously raises the question whether the CC are starting or have already started to price themselves out of the market.  We have already cancelled 4 bookings with the CC this year and found cheaper alternatives.

We remain members of the CC because of the CL network even though some CLs are now more expensive than nearby full sites.

Can't understand why people pay whatever the CC decide just to look at regimental sites with few facilties as I don't think many CC sites have pools, restaurants or bars on site.

I'm a member solely for access to the CLs (not for price reasons)but it seems some of them aren't fussy about who they accept.

A CC commercial site or a public commercial site would always be a last resort choice for me.

Well, personally, we set a limit of about £20 a night, and we're quite happy to pay that because of the lack of those things! Happy

We also pay the asking price, because of the lack of facilities on an otherwise top notch site. One of our weeks is £31 per night because it is in peak, but we would not get a commercial, of similar standard for that, with or without pool/ bar.

It seems the only model CC have is to jack up prices accross the board. I read somewhere on these thread that the price increases in 2016 are 8%.If more of us are shunning the CC off peak and going esewhere there is only one route to follow to maintain income
and thats to up the peak prices. Not only that but the CC we usually use in

Winter- Lady Margaret- Chirk is now very dated, poor showers, absolutely  horendous access road. Better value and sites elsewhere.

We have stayed on  a fully serviced pitch on a commericial sites for less than £18 a night in June.  Why can't the CC match that price.  Ross Park in Devon makes CC sites look like a neglected CL so do some other commercial sites!

I think that £20 is a fair price for mid season, but £30 or more is a total joke and I am surprised people are happy to be over charged by a club for which they pay membership?

Ross Park is indeed a very fine site. But unless you're taking advantage of their special deals and staying 7 night's or more I believe it works out slightly more expensive than Ramslade which, for us, is in a better location. Happy

The CC is a very old established and, in many ways, outdated organisation that relies on a huge income in membership fees to support an undoubtably massive HO overhead.

I find it very sad however, when I read some posts from people who will blindly continue to support the CC in the only way they seem to know to cover their site overheads - to jack up prices way beyond inflation every year. Any company with any savvy at
all, knows that simply increasing prices does not increase profit.

The inevitable will happen as the CC spiral downward in a sea of losses and competitors overtaking them......they will have to sell off their (our) sites. We have already seen the first amateurish attempts at this.

Is this really what some people want? Time to wake up to reality and get your favourite caravan site operator to do the same!

Commercials may well undercut the CC in June, but June is not high season, a service pitch at Troutbeck would cost £27.70, which I think is good value for a lovely site. In high season the price increases to £33.50, still I think a good price. What does
that commercial charge in high season?

Ian, have a look at some of the posts in the "good value" thread in UK touring. It is perfectly possible to organise a 3 week your including CC sites for well under £20 a night. We"'re doing exactly that at the moment. Whilst oft quoted commercial/private
sites offer some great deals if you're happy to  stay in one place for a week or more, we find they are rarely cheaper on a night by night basis. The secret is yo do a bit of research first. I really don't think there are many on here who "blindly support"
    the CC, do you? Happy

well judging by the booking availiblity there seem to be plenty of us who  either blindly pay up or perhaps we really see what good value the club sites are in terms of quality

But ONCE again, no one if forced to go to them, if thy are too high why are so many upset by this, go somewhere else
