@DavidKlyne good to hear that Margaret can get her operation done. Fingers crossed that it won't be too long before it happens.
Glad to read that you are feeling good enough to head outside to do some work in your garden, but please don't do too much, small steps to start with as directed by your family, @DEBSC
Super photos, @DSB pleased to see that you had a nice day out at Rievaulx, enjoy your mead.
Happy gardening to @Bakers2 , @milliehull , and @Takethedogalong
@richardandros hope your trip goes well, say Hi to Nicola from us please. How were the results of your xray, hopefully reassuring?

It started off this morning with a hazy sky but the sun did eventually break through. We had a pleasant walk on the shore at Hornsea before lunch then did a bit of shopping at Tesco before intending to go for a walk at The Mere but found that the gates were still closed. I explored more of the local lanes when we got back.

Lovely sunny day, woke up to -2C and afternoon temperature of +12C.
Washed caravan, so looking quite presentable again
Son broke his thumb playing indoor cricket on Sunday. Sad news that our foster grandson has been moved on after 3 years, the powers that be decided he should go into residential care.
The assessor is coming to inspect the van tomorrow, so fingers crossed.Hope all those with ailments get well soon

@DavidKlyne I'm very pleased that Margaret's tests were OK and I hope she will get a date for her hip operation ASAP after this delay.

@DavidKlyne , that’s very good news. Hopefully it won’t be much longer now 🤞
@nelliethehooker , that’s just what I needed to know from a seasoned traveller. Thanks 👍

Sunday was a nice sunny day here so I did more work on the caravan, and finally got the fridge working on gas, so that is a relief.
Had expected DD with that mattress she wants us to store for her, but as it was a sunny day she decided to do some gardening instead. They have decided to remove an unruly hedge, which is taking up too much space, make a plan for getting slabs laid to form a large sitting and eating area, and get quotes for the work, so she started removing some overgrown shrubs. While shredding the thinner branches, using our shredder, she managed to break it……sparks and smoke were observed…….so now she needs to buy a better one of her own. Ours was still under guarantee, so we can hopefully get it replaced, or get a refund.
Once they have all the landscaping done, they will put in a new, nicer, hedge, but meantime, as it will be pretty open to the street, with only a low fence, she plans to put up temporary privacy screening. Tonight she got in touch to say she had secured a load of fencing planks, free, so can I bring our big car down on Thursday or Friday and help her get it all home?
And could OH please contact our gardener to ask if he can come and take out the hedge and several tree stumps, so there will be no way back after that. OH has tried several times to persuade her just to put up a new fence inside the old one, but to no avail, she likes a hedge, just not the one that is there!
Sunday was not so sunny, but we went to see our son and family for lunch and chat. DIL had her Dad and her brother visit too, so plenty of chatting. Grandson was home from Uni, on study leave, so he joined in. He has his birthday soon, will be 19……time flies! They are looking to buy a small flat for him as renting is very expensive, so they will be viewing some this week.
Today has been sunny off and on. This morning I finished the work in our kitchen, and tidied away all my tools, so OH is now in the process of deciding what to put where, and muttering about the work surfaces there not being allowed to be “a dumping ground” from now on. It certainly does look a lot better now it is all neat and tidy. We have moved a few things around, put most appliances away in cupboards, so more clear work surfaces. Only the bread maker, the coffee machine, and the air fryer are now left out.
This afternoon I finished most of the things that needed to be done on the caravan and brought the carpets in to be shampooed…….first I need to repossess our shampooer from DD’s house. I wonder what else of ours she still has. 🤔

@DavidKlyne - David - great news about Margaret's op - let's hope she gets sorted soon. And @DEBSC - as I said to you earlier - just go with the flow and don't try to do too much too soon. Ros was extremely tired when the radiotherapy started but, eventually, just accepted it and took things steady. It didn't last long and she was soon back to her 'normal' self😉 She's not had any problems since and that must be over 20 years ago.
@nelliethehooker - thanks for asking - not quite as I expected - but I won't bore everyone on here with my ailments, I'll send you an email later - and - yes - we'll certainly pass on your regards to Nicola on Thursday. Looks like being another nice day - so van washing and loading up is on the cards for later. Have a good trip to Louth tomorrow.

@DavidKlyne great news on Margaret's additional checks. Hopefully the op can go ahead very soon. And the advisory's looked at soon after everything settles down.
@Oneputt I'm shocked to read about your foster grandson. It seems an odd decision but who am I to know? I hope he settles well🫂. It must be really hard for you, your son and family too. I admire anyone who can offer such a service. I do hope they're allowed to stay in contact. Let's hope the assessor can get things sorted quickly..I have no doubt our well maintained roads had a helping hand !
Everyone seems be to getting reasonable weather and managing to enjoy it.
I'll be having a less active day 😱. I think I overdid it a bit yesterday. Heel was very uncomfortable but my other leg is suffering. I knew I was compensating! I got in far more steps than I suspected - just pottering. Today is an appointment day and prescription collection one. I'll use the car as much as I can and do minimum walking 🤣

@Oneputt That must have been quite a wrench with the foster grandson. I have always been in awe of people who foster, I don't think we would have been brave enough to do it. We have a lady on our estate who has fostered children for years. I think it must be difficult when they arrive as babies and then either return to birth parents or perhaps an adoption some years afterwards. She is currently fostering a family of three children who were quite young when they arrived and are now all in their teens.

Glad that things are beginning to look a bit more hopful for Margaret's op @DavidKlyne.
Lovely photo @Takethedogalong .
Just taking a look at where to go today....

@vbfg its a lovely location, there’s a very tranquil feeling to the place, hidden in a steep sided valley. We prefer it to Fountains Abbey. There’s a good Museum in the grounds as well. Two other gorgeous but less well known Yorkshire Abbey’s are Byland Abbey (EH) which has a nice EH run Ex pub across the road, cafe/restaurant, and Jervaulx Abbey which is privately owned, but you can walk round. Jervaulx has a really nice tea room, and a CL, we stayed there touring round the Dales. Nice site.
The dog’s name causes much hilarity at the vets. He usually gets Revelux🤣 Jervaulx would be nice for another dog🤔 He nearly got Diablo or Faust, he was a very naughty pup! Eight months when we rehomed him, think stroppy teenager🤣🤣

We combined Rievaulx with a visit to Helmsley last year when with MiL. As others have said it really is lovely but for a different view call in at the National Trust Terrace that sits above the Abbey. Good for a dog stroll as well.
We left our CL early this morning and were home in an hour. Really enjoyed the 2 night break. We decided to explore a bit of the area from site yesterday (smashing CL, one of the best we've stayed on) so had a climb into the lower hills then walked into Bethesda through the extensive grounds of the CL. It's sad to see so many shops closed down in this old town built on Slate mining. Afternoon spent relaxing. Mrs.WN took herself off to find a quiet corner and something to draw. CL was Bryn Llys btw.
MiL seemed to manage fine. She went out for a walk yesterday with her trolley. Called in at a friend to tell her that she had a hospital appointment for today so couldn't keep their weekly gossip, sorry I meant chat, for today. Friend accompanied her on the walk instead and MiL was told off by a friendly neighbour as she was out too long! We're quietly pleased that someone noticed. Nevertheless she told him to mind his own business and get on with his doing nothing in his garage. Good job they know and like each other.
We took her to the hospital for her appointment. Boy, parking was mad. Good job I was able to drive them as the infillers for insulation arrived early. Just a check up from Stroke doctor. Everything seems in order. He wants to see her again in 8 years time as she's promised him a piece of cake and a kiss to celebrate her 100th. birthday. Yikes!
Monsters in the bog garden at Penrhyn Castle!
This "new" invention won multiple awards at an exhibition in London in the 1890s and Penrhyn Castle owner bought one. A revolutionary Fire Engine.
Small waterfall on walk yesterday.

Good to hear the news about Margaret @DavidKlyne.
Hope the assessment went well @Oneputt. We had something similar a few years ago when the body on the caravan delaminated. It started when we hit a big pothole in Durham area and the dealer had to talk the assessor through how the shock wave would have affected the caravan body. Insurers settled. Hope you have a similar outcome.
A body blow about your foster grandson though. Can you appeal? Best wishes.

@Wherenext glad you enjoyed your break away and now back home and MIL all ok.
A bit more gardening here and more to do tomorrow then out to local village as OH needs next lot of medication and 1 item he cannot get at our local Pharmacie also we will do a bit of shopping, he has also made next appointment with the doctor for 1st April.
We are hoping to get away to local site in May when they open for the season then hopefully off to the Dordogne in June and catch up with some friends who are staying in a gite in the same area where we are staying.

Cathedral duty for me today. Very busy as it is the first day of The Longest Yarn exhibition. It is a very large knitted and crocheted exhibition depicting the events of D Day. It is wonderful and well worth a visit. It is on until the end of March when it will be going to the USA.
Very upsetting news about your foster grandson @Oneputt. A real wrench for everyone concerned. It does make one question the decision.

@Wherenext we are hoping to get to Le Port de Limeuil site as it looks good and Eribamotters stayed there last year and not sure about other trips here as we do not do school holidays here as in the past OH could only get holidays at that time, we are going to UK late September and staying in two cottages 1 in West Dorset and 1 not far away in East Devon as we did not use the caravan last year in UK.
We have just cancelled our club membership at the end of February after nearly 40 years, but will still post on here.
Had the Red Squirrel again today feeding on the tray of seeds.

Some photos of The Longest Yarn exhibition at Peterborough Cathedral. The detail is absolutely amazing.

The insurance assessor visited this morning and confirmed the bent axle theory. He seemed satisfied with what work needed to be carried out so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for the go ahead.
I think the thing about foster grandson is it’s like a normal rotation. He could end up as far away as Cheshire so visits are not likely.
Manage to mow the lawn this afternoon so looks tidier. It looks like the squirrels have been at work as we have single crocus bulbs all over in odd places

Great photos, and wonderful models, @milliehull who did the work? Hope the exhibition receivers of visitor. Is it being well advertised?
@Oneputt so sorry to read about grandson, it seems a very strange decision by the LA. Hope that the assessor gives you a positive verdict?
Glad you had a good time away at Bethesda, and that your MIL has received encouraging words from the consultant @Wherenext Interesting pictures too.
@richardandros you picked a good day to clean and load the van, hope you managed to get all ready for your trip.
Hope you had a good day out @DSB as the weather has been kind again today.

We had frost again over night but it soon warmed up under a hazy sky. A good day to get the washing done as there was also a breeze. We drove up the coast, but not far, to see the effects of coastal erosion. Came across a nice medieval church and a Millennium Stone showing the rate of erosion at Barmston, around 38m in the last 12yrs. Our last night here, on a grand CL, before we head further south.

Thanks @nelliethehooker. Today we went over to Spofforth Castle... then on to Harrogate for the shopping + Costa.... Harrogate was really busy... heavy traffic.

That’s fabulous. A modern day Bayeaux. Can I ask Millie, does the Cathedral allow dogs in? He would be in his chariot all the time, but we would love to see the Yarn. Just wary of leaving him in car, in a City. If not we could walk around separately, as we have done before.

Yes @Takethedogalong the Cathedral welcomes dogs.

@milliehull thats great👍 He’s no bother, very quiet, and likes a tootle around a bit of history. That’s a nice day out sorted👍

Boiler installation today. They were due 9 o'clock so I thought I'd get up a bit earlier and move the car and have a cuppa at 7.30. Opened the curtains and they were sitting outside! That's what avoiding rush hour will do for you. So we opened up early. Madness here, along with a lot of Gold radio and impromptu Karaoke (very poor). OK for the ladies who disappeared to the pub, for coffee only so I'm told, and then a walk when they got back.
Mind you OH did join me in the garden for a good clearing out and trimming back. Full brown bins now.
@milliehull - looks a lovely exhibition. Wish we could get there.

@Takethedogalong I did have a lovely black lab on one of my tours a few months ago. He was very well behaved but I think he might have been a bit bored 🤔.

@nelliethehooker A number of different groups from aĺl over the country have been involved in making the exhibition and yes it is being well promoted. It has been on all the local news programmes.
