@Oneputt sounds like good news, hope that they get the go ahead to replace the axle soon, and you can get away in the not too distant future.

Glad you got set up ok, @richardandros but a shame that you had to do the round trip to sort out the electrics.

Looks like good news, @Wherenext and that you might be able to extend your trips away before long.

Good to read that you and your mum enjoyed the birthday cake @Takethedogalong and that you might head out in the M/H soon.

Fingers crossed that you don't have to go through Chemo, @DEBSC however best wishes that all goes well if you do.

A bit more mixed weather today, starting off rather cloudy but then the sun appeared for a while before we had a short rain shower early this evening. Drove across to Willingham Woods for a walk before lunch and then another there after refuelling and replenishing food stocks at Tesco in Market Rasen.

It is not just Whitby thst has a Whale Bone Arch, as I came across this one during my pre evening meal walk from the site.

Yesterday and today have been reasonable weather wise, which was good as DD has had our gardener with her, taking down the 23 metres of Ivy infested 3 metre high hedge along her front fence. Although said fence is alongside the pavement, and to the front of the property, all her garden, which she calls the back garden, is behind it to one side of the house, and the large shared driveway and garages are to the other side, so now all her garden is in full view of neighbours and passers by, hopefully only temporarily.

Along the pavement, previously hidden inside the hedge, is the original 100 year old 3 feet high wrought iron fence, which she wants to restore. The bottom edge of it is partly buried by soil, and there are tree stumps and various roots entwined in it, so it will not be easy to sort it all out.

Now that we can see the situation, it is clear that the fence will need to be cut and removed to allow access for all the tree stumps and roots to be removed, and that she will need machinery to do that. The original plan was to plant a new hedge, but she is now coming round to the idea that a taller fence, for privacy, set a little back from the original fence with climbers planted in the gap, would be the best solution, but whether she will be allowed to do that is another matter. She will need to speak to the council I think. There is no problem with sight lines for traffic as the road makes a 90 degree right turn at the end of the garden, and beyond that turn are only school playing fields. These already have a high fence along the pavement. If a fence is not permitted she will have to plant a new hedge, and hope it grows quickly.

She had already purchased post spikes and privacy screening to make a temporary screen, so today we purchased fence posts and other timber to use to construct it, work will start tomorrow, putting it up about 2 metres back from the pavement to allow space to attack the tree stumps. The boys are very excited at the prospect of having a digger working in their garden!

I have a feeling that this is going to turn into a lengthy project.

@KjellNN that sounds not dissimilar to what we have just done. Original Victorian hedge. We found boundary stones when we dug down, with the hawthorn growing around them. No digger for us, there’s no access into our big garden except through the house, so it was all done by hand. OH had to smash a couple of the stones as they were completely grown around and too big to get out in one. On the plus side, I now have lots of lovely stone for the garden. We have the original pedestrian gate, lovely cast iron, but it won’t open. That’s on the bottom edge of the garden, around 3 metres in from an old original wall, as all the gardens had a pedestrian walkway down the short side, now fully incorporated into each garden, so the wall is now the boundary. Old properties have very interesting boundaries and changes over time.

I am trying to source either a copper bowl, or a copper sphere, for a water feature, not having much luck as most come as a complete and very expensive unit. We do however have two very nice old millstones in the garden🤔 I have also got a very big glass carbuoy, but don’t fancy drilling a hole into it🫣

There's a whale bone arch on Lewis too, @nelliethehooker

Continued good wishes for those who continue to wait for hospital appointments and surgery. Glad to read there are several wbo are gettingvout and about in the caravans/ motorhomes.

What a lovely sunny day quite warm here too. We left home yesterday afternoon and made the easy tow down to our usual CL at Longtown for the night. Left there at half 11 this morning M6 surprisingly quiet so easy 2 and a half hour tow down here to Merseyside. Site very busy but great to see people sitting outside their vans we even managed to get a pitch in the sun. Here until the end of the week then moving on up to Blackpool for a couple of nights

Hope everyone else is having a nice weekend

Enjoy your break @Francis. Hope you packed your thermals as its due to get colder later in the week.

We all went to Loggerheads CP again this morning as MiL enjoyed it so much the other week. Beautiful morning. We think she over exerted things a little as she had a snooze this afternoon, unusual for her.

Quite eerie here this afternoon. No work noise of any kind in the 3 neighbouring households, work that has been ongoing for months and a background noise has always been there. No TV on in adjoining room either, another usual constant. Local children gone out for the day so that's quiet as well. As I said, it's eerie but oh so nice.

by contrast, one of our neighbours, the young ones a few doors away, decided to set up a disco in their garden this afternoon, whilst starting a big bonfire. We actually thought it was a big event over at our nearby Rugby Club, but no😡 I popped round and politely asked them if they could turn things down a little, which thankfully they did, and apologised. It’s not often it happens, but it’s always the usual suspects🤣 Nice enough, but not always aware of the amount of noise they make. I don’t mind politely asking, but in past other neighbours have phoned police.

Motorhome had a good sort out today, inside and out. Poor thing hasn’t rolled a wheel since November. I tested everything before cleaning, only issue was the usual suspect, the flush on the loo, everything else is fine. OH gave her a good wash, so hopefully a nice run out somewhere local tomorrow. Managed another couple of hours in garden as well. Been another lovely day, t shirt weather.

Local son and DIL are organising a skip at theirs so decided OH should have a clear out in our garage and get rid of some stuff. They arranged to come over today and we all got stuck in. DIL is great at clearing out and they filled the boots of both their cars and the garage looks so much better. More to the point we now know what we have in there and where it is. After they had gone I got Henry Hoover out and gave it a good vacuming. A day well spent.

Enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts @Wherenext . It brings back memories of when our next door neighbours had a new roof a few months ago. We had a very loud disco all day every day for weeks on end.

What is it with builders and the like that they feel they have the right to deafen everyone in the neighbourhood including the person who's paying them? We always ask them to turn it off both for our own sake and that of our neighbours. They comply because they want to stay on site and get paid! I’d politely ask neighbours to have words with their own workmen if the row emanated from a nearby premises.

A lovely sunny day here too, perfect for getting the washing dried! We had a walk around Covenham Reservoir this morning, before more food shopping before our next move. Glad to hear that others are also sharing and making good use of this fine weather.

Enjoy your trip away @Francis, are you staying at the Cheshire Club Site?

Glad you have had a peaceful relaxing afternoon @Wherenext

Sounds as if you have had a busy time clearing your garage @milliehull that is something I must get done soon

A couple of photos from today's walk. It may look like snow on the banking but is in fact feathers!

Quite sunny yesterday, and very warm in the sun, but it got quite chilly in the wind by about 4.30pm.

We got most of the fence posts in place for DD’s temporary screen , SIL was kept busy hammering in the fence post spikes, and digging out a few huge lumps of concrete and blocks of sandstone that were in the way.

The houses in the street were all built by the same person, the ones opposite are sandstone terraces, so presume, as DD’s house was the last one built, that her garden was used as the storage area. Her house was built for the builder’s parents, it is of brick and render with inset decorative timbers , as is the one next to her. It was much later extended to the back and then split into 2 flats, so very few original internal features remain, unfortunately.

SIL later went out to meet up with some teaching colleagues, so the rest of us carried on attaching the fence rails, with plenty of “help” from the boys. There is still a short piece to be put up at the bottom end to close off access to/from the pavement, then we can start putting up the privacy screening.

The newly revealed view of the garden has created a lot of interest from the neighbours and passers by as the garden is unusually large for the area, plenty of staring from passing car drivers too! As she has 2 sets of school playing fields adjacent, the street outside is usually full of parked buses and cars on a Saturday, so it was interesting to note that not one bus or car parked up along the 25m frontage while we were out there working.

Tomorrow we take the caravan for service, so a quick check tonight to make sure we have done all we need to, then a fairly early (for us) start tomorrow as it is an hour drive each way, and we ideally need to be back to pick up Nathan at 1pm

If only it was builders 🙁 I think society in general has moved towards a “I can do this and sod anyone else” mentality in general. I stopped my car the other day to see if I could help get what I thought was an infirm person back on their feet after a fall. Huh, nope, just a drunk woman who had keeled over, two other inebriates trying to “help”. Got her onto her knees, but it would have needed a hoist to get her up further. She was off the road, so I just suggested a taxi and left them to it. She wasn’t hurt, just too drunk to function properly. It was 3pm in afternoon🤷‍♀️ Fireworks are an issue sometimes for us. In the daytime, no warning, bang bang bang. 🤷‍♀️ I am glad we have a “nothing phases me” gundog. Airedales would have been terrified.

Well a complete change in the weather strong winds all day and overnight and then rain on and off from 6am now upto 20mm so far and more to come I am not good with very strong winds usually get a headache must be my age ha ha. A bit of extra DIY yesterday evening before it got dark out mains cable on a concrete pole coming down into our garden where it goes underground to the house decided to attach a loop in the cable to our conifer hedge some clips had come loose so a bit of hedge trimming and OH up a ladder tying the cable back to the post will contact our electric supplier this week and seen if they could reattach the cable more securely and it was getting dark by the time we finished heyho just glad it was not today.

Looks like more inside chores this week as weather very mixed.

A short trip out for us today to NT Arlington Court. A bit of a shock when we got there as traffic monitors guiding cars in, we were shown to the overflow car park, which we have never even seen a car in before, and even that was really busy. We thought maybe the spring sunshine but were then told it was a free day for locals. As it was for anyone with an EX postcode that meant anyone from as far away as 50 miles or more, so most of Devon! It was lovely to see lots of children there, so many toddlers trotting around. We did a couple of shortish walks, broken up by a stop for coffee and cake. The tea room was packed with a queue out of the door but we got coffee from the pop up van and did manage to find a seat. Seeing the spring flowers and being out in the sunshine was a real tonic. And a wander around was also good.

I had begun to think I was being a baby as still very sore under arm and restricted but the surgeon has now explained that would be so as there had been complications during surgery and she had to do much more than she would usually have done. I had to have another scan and may have to go back for a little more surgery soon, all dependant on the scan.

Home now for OH to watch the rugby, so I’m off now for a rest and a quiet read.

Good to hear that you're managing to get out and about @DEBSC - well done - and good luck with the scan.

It's been another glorious day here @Skybarn Farm CL although with a bit of a chilly breeze. What a change it has made to have had sunshine for a few days - at last! Had a nice lazy day on site, today - breakfast cooked on the griddle outside this morning - rest of the morning reading the papers - and a BBQ planned for later this afternoon. Perfect!

Been messing about with the solar panels and the Bluetti power pack. Been a bit of a learning curve and not quite gone as expected (well, perhaps it did and I was just hoping for too much!). Still only used £2.99 worth of electricity though -since we arrived on Thursday - so not a bad result.

    FFabulous Day here.

EEarly start for me, at sons by 0715, son DIL and the boys out the door for 0730. Drive to Madingley P&R bus to half marathon. Watched son depart, wewere the 'wrong' side of the road to head for town, eldest grandson wanted a ride in the lift like last year! Had to wait for all to depart, around 16,000 entrants. Made it to the lift, swift grab of cold drink in Starbucks baby had a bit of feed, then head to 15km mark, just made it! Son made finish line before we could get there… He was pleased 1 hour 33 minutes. But said it was hot and he started out too fast. 10 from his work ran raising money for MAGPAS, local air ambulance. It would have been too much for OH to join us sadly.

Back into town for an errand. Then back to the start to get P&R home. I clocked 8.5 miles. No wonder my plantar facilitis hurts now 🫣.

A memory popped up on my FB page just now. On this day in 2023 we had snow. Today it was 20c.....

Have booked our tickets for the longest yarn. And lunch afterwards at Becketts tearoom 😃

So pleased to hear that you had such an enjoyable outing @DEBSC . We holidayed for years near Berrynarbour in Devon and went to Arlington Court every year. Such a lovely place. Best of luck with your scan.

that sounds like a good day @Bakers2. Well done to your son. Such a good cause

Lovely weather here again today. Sadly I think it will be the last for a while. OH having a fight with the doors of one of our kitchen cupboards. The hinges have fallen off and have the doors. The doors and hinges are winning at the moment. The air got a bit blue at point 🙄. I think we might have to get outside help but I am not sure anyone will be interested as it is 'a small job'.

@DEBSC great to hear you've been out and enjoyed it. It's amazing how much the sun and spring flowers help our well-being. Fingers crossed for the scan results.

Oh @milliehull what a nuisance. I hope your OH can show the door and hinges who's boss. It is these little jobs that cause issues. We have found very good and reasonable folk via Safe Local Trades, based in Yaxley but trades all local. I understand it's run by a tiny woman who checks up on the workers and reviews and isn't happy if they get bad ones!

Lovely day here today sun shining and quite warm it was showing 19 degrees for a couple of hours this afternoon. We went a drive over to New Brighton today had a great walk along the shore front great to see people out enjoying themselves there were even people sitting on the beach. We like new Brighton and you get good views over to Liverpool got a good view of Everton’s new stadium. it’s a good old fashioned British seaside town visited the fort that has now been turned in to a cafe bar so had a pint in their beer garden lovely sitting out in the sun after a long winter. Got back to the van and it was still sunny so got the Cadac out and had our first BBQ of the year. All in all a great day

Good to read others have been able to get out and enjoy the weather and had a nice weekend

We too have had another lovely day. Moved on down to another CL, near Wisbech, that we have not visited before. It is a real bargain, with large level Hardstanding serviced pitches with EHU & wifi ( even if it is a bit iffy) easy access through security coded gates, and open views, all for £17:50 per night!!😊 An added bonus this evening was seeing a Barn Owl, with something in it's talons, flying up from one of the drainage ditches near the site.

Glad others have had the same good weather. Hope all goes well with your scan results @DEBSC

P!ease keep that rain over there @RedKite we are enjoying the fine sunny conditions here and want them to last a while longer!😁

@Francis very interesting photographs, we don’t know the NW coast area very well at all above Wales.

@nelliethehooker thats an absolute bargain CL Nellie👍

Nice run out yesterday for us in MH, weather was beautiful, so we took advantage and visited RSPB Blacktoft Sands, saw plenty of interest (another thread Wildlife). Had a nice meal in MH, just great to be back out in her. Might have a dodgy Earth connection though, so OH is checking in next few days. We are back out tomorrow for day, booked our tickets for Longest Yarn at Peterborough. Going to fly in Jeep though down A1. We shall be wrapped up warm, temps have plummeted here. It was 18c yesterday, it’s 6c and feels colder because of the wind🥶

What a difference a day makes! After yesterdays's glorious weather, woke up to thick fog and decidedly cold weather! Lifted a bit after lunch, but is now starting to close in again.

We had some very upsetting news this morning. Our dear friends in Old Malton - Tony - who is almost 89, was rushed into hospital and it turns out he has encephalitis and pneumonia. He is drifting in an out of consciousness and I fear the end is near. It will be so sad to loose such a close friend after all these years - but he is a fighter, though - and we're both praying that he will pull through.
